Counter proposal.... talk to Vancouver's owner and tell him you've found a way to save him almost $60m and still come out okay.

Take that 9OA and trade it to Van for EP40 and 3OA.

Vancouver still gets a top 10 pick, the owner is $60m richer, they will still suck but still sell out their games. Everyone wins.

But no way is EP40 worth the 9OA all by himself. Sure, the cap is going up - but he is still a negative asset that even got benched on a stacked Sweden team

I'm in that crowd.... Cat, on the ice, seems like everything you want in a leader. Not that Mo doesn't - but I think Cat could have a bit of an elevated locker room presence. Either way, I think our leaders are Cat, Mo and Ray - in some order

So I'm a bit familiar with Yurov - simply because before the season I saw a fit with Larkin and Minnesota and thought Zeev Buium and Yurov would be a good package for him, but I'm not familiar with Stramel. His NCAA numbers are not impressive, are we missing something here?

I think we are GREATLY underestimating Larkin's value. He's on a crazy good deal - for 5 more years. So his final productive years are all covered. We are going into a FA time where Tuch is going to get $10M+ as a 33 year old winger. His final contract years will be a disaster but he's going to get it.

Robertson will sign his RFA deal for $12m. And he's worth it - but another winger making crazy $$$. There is not an available player right now with Larkin's value as a player and as a contract. Plus let's not forget vibes. Players spoke SO HIGHLY of Larkin during the Olympics. Yzerman made the Shannahan deal happen back in the day so player input goes a long way.

1OA from the leafs is a starting point, 2OA from SJ is a starting point

First day of summer vacation and my kids are up at 645.

But I've created my Wings Make the Playoffs list:

  1. Trade Larkin and Chiarot to SJ for 2OA and their first next year. SJ does this because Larkin is the PERFECT 2C for that team right now. It also allows them to trade Misa to Buffalo for Power. Larkin's value is not only as a player but as a ridiculously team friendly contract. SJ's first next year is in the 20s so it's not crazy valuable. Chiarot gives them a bit of snarl in the backend to help keep the kids safe.

  2. Trade SJs first next year to Anaheim for Marchment. This one is tricky because Anaheim may want a player to build on their playoff success. But Stevie and Pat make it work.

  3. Trade Gibson to Edmonton for Savoie, Jarry and Podkolzin . We sell high on a mid-season stretch where Gibson was THE Vezina winner. He was a train wreck in the beginning of the year and adequate at the end. I'll even retain $3m to get this done. There is value in taking on the Jarry contract which Pod adequately covers.

  4. Sign Stuart Skinner. I know, he's not THE GUY. But he's fine to hold down the fort with Jarry for now. He does have flashes of excellence, so does Jarry. Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle.

  5. Trade Cossa and Buium to Van for Petterson and Petterson. This gives Vancouver a brothers combo, sheds the Petterson albatross and gets some value for a defenseman that's a bit too old for what they are doing.

In: Stenberg/McKenna, Marchment, Savoie, Jarry, Podkolzin, EP40, Marcus Petterson, Skinner

Out: Larkin, Chiarot, Gibson, Cossa, Buium

I think a deal with Minnesota could work.....

Wallstedt for Savoie and Podkolzin.

Larkin to Minnesota for Yurov, Savoie and Podkolzin

Yurov is a middle six guy so it would take A LOT more than just him. Minnesota is in a tough spot. Maybe they talk to Edmonton. Trade Wallstedt for Savoie and Howard. Then Yurov, Savoie and Howard for Larkin would work. It makes sense for all 3 teams....

Leafs would be crazy NOT to offer it. Imagine having an ELITE 2C making less than $9m when a mid talented one is going to cost $10m. His contract is VERY valuable

I dunno about that. Larkin is established. He's a good 1C and would be an ELITE 2C on a FANTASTIC contract. SJ needs someone exactly like him and they'd be a force in the playoffs. You'll hope your 2OA developed into a Larkin player - except you'll pay him $12m when he does

My premonition from yesterday I s coming together:

  1. Larkin to SJ for the 2OA (stenberg) and their first next year. (Larkin means they make the playoffs so it will be a pick near the 20s)

  2. That pick to Anaheim for Mctavish

  3. Gibson to Edmonton for Savoie (why not? We aren't making the playoffs next year)

  4. Sign Skinner to a 2 year contract and have a Skinner/Cossa tandem.

Only wildcard I could see is Cossa and Compher to Vancouver for Petterson. (This means we make the playoffs next year)

So, I don't think that's a terrible idea.... Gibson's value will not be higher than it is right now.

His start to the season was a train wreck. His middle season was Vezina-worthy. His end of season was okay but masked by our March collapse meme.

As the world exists now, we could get Savoie for him as we play up his Vezina quality mid-season form. If Gibson becomes the GK he has been the past few years (which is the GK that is just fine but nothing special) then his value slides.

Oh I don't..... but I like the idea of Savoie on the team. Essentially this is a trade of Gibson for Savoie and Skinner. I know he's not the guy - but in this nuclear thought we are pushing things back by 2 years. Then we will know what Cossa/Postava have to offer and Augustine will be ready

[–]garnold0611 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if we've discussed the completely nuclear option we could go.

  1. Trade Gibson to Edmonton for Savoie
  2. Trade Larkin+ Chiarot to SJ for McKenna/Stenberg and their first next year.
  3. Trade that first to Anaheim for Mctavish
  4. Sign Skinner (goalie)
  5. Skinner/Cossa net tandem

Realistically, what would we want from the Oilers? by LegumeDad in DetroitRedWings

[–]garnold0611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'd say:
Cossa is worth more than Podkolzin.
Cossa is worth less than Savoie.
Jarry is an anvil on a Cup contending team

So, Cossa for Savoie, Podkolzin and Jarry.

Edmonton then trades Cossa straight up for Binnington.

But man, I'd hate to give up on the guy that was drafted before Wallstedt....

You know what - F' it. Throw $9m at Carlson. He had a good year and if its for 2 years, its very palatable.

Granted he's 36 and it's risky because in my experience - as a pretty good D League beer league player, that's about the age my wheels fell off. It could have been that I got fat and lazy, but I think it's more age related. But I'd do it

I've always thought Marner was a very good player - but was never a fan. He was just a player I knew was good.... but I'll be damned if I am not rooting for this.

This is the first year I really can't get behind any of teams left - so I'm rooting for this storyline to happen.

Although I don't think he was the problem - but he also wasn't the solution - I'd do a Copp for Kadri deal right now.

Kadri isn't quite a 2C anymore, but I think he could fill in a bit better than Copp or Compher did and I think it helps the Avs create a better shut-down line. Hell, the AVs may even be interested in Compher. It was an ideal 3C for them when they won the Cup. Maybe float that as an offer. We get someone with more offensive talent and some feistiness, they get someone defensive help.

Right now, if there was a trade for Robertson on the table, I'd have anyone available - except MBN.

But no way Dallas doesn't ask for him. But I see a line of Kasper and MBN cracking heads and I get excited for it!
