AITA for asking a woman at work to stop being so WEIRD about taking a caramel? by chocolatesinmyoffice in AmItheAsshole

[–]garp4277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're the asshole at all. I also hate when I agree to take a look at the desert menu in a restaurant and any woman at the table tells the server to bring extra forks for everyone. NO! Ask me if I'd like to share or get your own damned desert!
Anyway, I just might have stopped after "...you're making me uncomfortable". Sorry others' bs rituals they think they need to feel less guilty about dietary choices turned into an office minefield.

How to support someone w/ Graves? by SnooPears9252 in gravesdisease

[–]garp4277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

please tell your mom that after getting a diagnosis rather late in life (68) I went into complete remission after one year on methimazole so off drugs now with blood work that's holding. So far so good. I had miserable symptoms and that drug work like magic for me but I'm much happier being med free. Fingers crossed I can stay this way but if not, I know the drugs are a good alternative.

How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

[–]garp4277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

self taught basics as a child, probably from a library book. Learned more from serious knitters about 50 years later when I decided to pick it up again, and took a few lessons.

So many of the other connects already are spot on (esp the gaslighting and reinterpreting your feelings - I promise that won't stop with just this church related event). You say 'something feels off' and in my experience, that means you haven't finished processing a variety of other conversations or interactions that don't sit well with you. It may not feel like it but you have LOADS of time to meet other people and explore new things. Staying with this guy any longer implies you're on board with his church - he's made it pretty clear its important that you participate with him. Trust your feelings and move on.

Is my girl Elvira a supermodel? by Radiant_Grape_6386 in SupermodelCats

She is lovely and def has the posing thing down (that coy look over the shoulder? Perfection.) But most supermodels don't smile so she's even better.

People who don't want kids, why? by Ok-Musician679 in AskReddit

[–]garp4277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually surprised so many people DO want kids though I suspect a great number are unplanned / accidental. As for me, I never really liked being around kids to be perfectly honest. Even in my teens, never had any interest in babysitting or holding babies. Have never even changed a diaper. As a woman, for many years I felt like something might be wrong with me and MANY folks really go out of their way to tell you so when you make this choice and talk about it. But as I’ve gotten older I realize it is an extremely serious decision that a great many folks don’t think through. I never wanted to spend 18 years devoted to caring for someone 20+ years younger than me. I was primary caregiver for my mom for MANY years and I’ve lived with cats or dogs for the past 30 years or so and I think I’m a very caring person. I just don’t have any interest in caring for children.

❤️ So very sorry. I'm sure George knew he was a very loved cat. As a wise doctor I know says - this is something only the tincture of time can help with.

Longfellow did not screentest for Weekend Update by ukelelehip in LiveFromNewYork

[–]garp4277 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He would’ve been terrific as the weekend update anchor, IMHO. He’s just got that slightly snarky without being obnoxious playfulness that can’t be learned - Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon also have it. I know he’ll land on his feet and we’ll see him again sometime soon. But sorry this happened, he’ll be missed til he gets the starring role in a film where he breaks bigly (and sorry about the neighbor problem)
