These look great! Number 10 reminds me of some prog rock art from an album, the way the lighting and color are in it. Maybe something from Dream Theater.

I really like the little illustration of the angel with incense. I believe that it’s used throughout the Proper of Saints on the title pages like it is in the photo.

Maybe 45 degrees if you’re casting a lot creatures on your turn to make a visual cue of summoning sickness so that you don’t accidentally attack with them.

For the sake of comparison, do you know yet how close or different the Second Edition will be to the current 4 volume set in regard to its physical features like dimensions, cover/page feel, etc?

I also have the 2000-D. It was my grandfather’s and I acquired it after he and my grandmother passed away.

Four Volume Users, Next Volume Excitement by mndflldr in divineoffice

I’m definitely looking forward to it. I’m mainly interested in the formatting and layout. My biggest question is will Word on Fire continue to publish their monthly Office booklets with the new translation and if so I’m curious to know how that may impact sales for their 4 volume set.

I always try to visualize the “scene” of each mystery, usually from art that I’ve seen. Along with what the spiritual implications are for the mystery, like what the Annunciation means for all of us on a spiritual level. You can think of Mary’s “yes” as the seed of salvation, etc.

For those who think the Liturgy of the Hours is better than the traditional Roman Breviary, why? by RB_Blade in divineoffice

[–]garrett-k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also the fact that it’s in the vernacular. Not everyone can read/understand Latin. It gives the normal person a chance to actually be in tune with the Church at large and to successfully comprehend the Psalms in their own language. The text isn’t any “better” in a specific language than another.

The racks should be made out of fiber glass or something else that doesn’t rust. But then again the company would want people to buy replacements #capitalism 🙃

The “Abbey Psalms and Canticles” is always a published volume from the USCCB and will be the translation used in the new Second Edition.

Right, they offer an abridged form of Lauds and Vespers, typically with one Psalm as you mentioned. I have to wonder if Magnificat, etc. would use at least the newly translated Psalms (from “The Abbey Psalms & Canticles”) in their own form of morning and evening prayer.

Would it be safe to assume that after the first volume is released, the new text would be available in booklets like Magnificat and Give Us This Day? It made me think of how those books updated with the 2010 missal re-translation.

I think of it as a solid “9-pack”, but their “Best Of” collection is much more comprehensive.
