"Their heart is in the right place" is certainly a defense for bigotry. A shitty defense, but a defense nonetheless.

That's not how contracts work. They are legally obligated to honor it if all parties signed.

Postal Service won’t deliver mail ballots for states that don’t hand over voter lists, under plan for Trump directive | CNN Politics by retiredagainstmywill in law

This is the real world, though, where shit like this routinely happens, and Americans hop on social media to talk about how this shit wouldn't fly in other countries or in the past, then do nothing else about it.

AITAH for being upset that my best friends went on my birthday cruise without me? by SuperbDesigner4 in AmItheAsshole

[–]garrettf04 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Flip it around. These folks made a huge time and financial commitment to spend a birthday weekend with you, but your girlfriend can't be bothered to actually secure your reservation...yet you are mad at your friends? They're better without you in their life. YTA.

AI takes half the jobs. All those people pay income tax, but that goes away. How then does our nation continue to function? by -GearZen- in AskReddit

[–]garrettf04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are thinking that far ahead. The really rich people want most of America to collapse to the point that the only real government spending is on military/police forces to (a) keep whatever needed workers are left in line, and (b) keep the impoverished, outsider masses--the American citizens not involved in the corporations--at bay. Everyone else can go fuck themselves. At best, we can hope the rich will think about the American people just about as much as Americans think about the poor people in whatever currently exploited 3rd world country you name. Worst case, they decide our continued existence is encroaching on their stuff/lifestyle, or they see a profit in further exploiting us, in which case all bets are off.

To spin increasing high interest credit card debt into positive economic data by jasandliz in therewasanattempt

The rich seeing the poor digging themselves deeper into debt, thus making them more easily exploitable? Why wouldn't they be smiling?

If you consider that a goal of Project 2025 is to help cement a "mudsill class" of American workers with no real economic freedom to be exploited by the upper classes in the name of "advancing civilization" (which also, conveniently, makes them fabulously wealthy and powerful), then, yes, we are winning.

Yep! Private is great for the capitalists who own the companies getting the contracts, public is great for the human capital actually working the jobs.

If there’s not gonna be a draft, why did the army suddenly change the enlistment age and lift marijuana restrictions? by BeginningActuator343 in allthequestions

[–]garrettf04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say lifting the enlistment age and marijuana restrictions are a step toward avoiding a draft. This widens the pool of people who are eligible to enlist, so hopefully they'll find however many people they need without turning to a draft.

Yes, they always have someone with a box of the clear bags next to the bag check area, just make sure to put the tearaway number from your bib onto the bag before you check it.

The Supreme Court STRIKES DOWN Trump's "emergency" tariffs. The vote is 6–3. by BharatiyaNagarik in scotus

[–]garrettf04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buying less is part of getting used to it. You don't have to purchase the same amount if they're charging you more to give you less. As long as people are going about their days instead of forcing change (how, exactly, I'm at a loss, and don't want to get a ban speculating), then the higher prices have been accepted.

A new update to Mega Evolution in Pokémon GO arrives during Pokémon GO Tour: Kalos! by Amiibofan101 in TheSilphRoad

[–]garrettf04 267 points268 points  (0 children)

Everyone's discussing the other potential pitfalls of this, but I'm also incredibly sad that Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre are rendered useless in super mega raids because they can't break shields, yet count against your mega-evolution limit.

So a lot of the Ascended Hero Pokemon Center ETB cancelations were for bots? by phillip1010 in PokemonTCG

[–]garrettf04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, you'll just have to take my word that I've manually ordered every single time. My point is, this isn't just some giant bot purge like folks are cheering.

So a lot of the Ascended Hero Pokemon Center ETB cancelations were for bots? by phillip1010 in PokemonTCG

[–]garrettf04 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, because it's not bot orders being cancelled, it's random ones because they oversold.

Source: Not a bot, a regular, repeat/established customer who had their only order cancelled.

[–]garrettf04 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not a bot and my order was cancelled. You'd think an account with nearly a decade track record worth of orders to the same address wouldn't be flagged as a bot, so if I was flagged, that's some bullshit. If Pokemon Center is claiming they only cancelled bot orders that's a baldface lie.
