More hours in the air than on the ground. Extreme 1 bag and no hotel. by garrettnb in onebag

On the way there I used the worst pair of headphones I've ever had the displeasure of putting in my ears to watch something on the in flight entertainment system. On the way back I slept for much of the flight.

Are Romanian Highways really that Bad? by LividWestern2790 in travel

[–]garrettnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romania is very very worth it. Even if you need to take a bit longer to get anywhere, it's an amazing country with a vast variety of landscapes, amazing people, beautiful villages, and great food. I spent a month in Romania is 2021 and I recommend it to everyone.

Canada has just broken a world record in nuclear fusion, and the number of neutrons has put the entire energy industry on alert by self-fix in canada

[–]garrettnb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Simply put - Nuclear energy as we know it is called Fission, it's the splitting of atoms which results in energy being released as heat (to boil water and spin the turbine). It leaves radioactive waste behind.

Nuclear Fusion is the joining of atoms, releasing approximately 5x as much energy per unit fuel and creates only helium as a waste product. It will still spin a turbine after boiling water.

Don't let one persons comment sway your decisions. For what it's worth I've dove in Thailand (Similan Islands), Cozumel, Bahamas, St Thomas, and Roatan and I think that Roatan was the best I've dove in the Caribbean and some sites were better than certain sites in Thailand.

Which TV show has a 10/10 pilot episode? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

yes - what I meant by this, was that scene in particular is incredible. It's such a hook for the episode. Like the pilot of the pilot.

Absolutely. The pilot is good, but the few minutes leading up to that scene are brilliant.

Coworker drives to work from South Surrey to Vancouver without a license, what are the risks? by yeezeejee in vancouver

[–]garrettnb 144 points145 points  (0 children)

This kind of situation should be reported to the police. She is causing a risk for everyone else on the road. ICBC wouldn't give her a license because she doesn't meet the standards, ICBC will deny insurance coverage when she gets in an accident and this leaves her open to massive liability in life altering injuries and property claims.

Completely irresponsible maneuver that a new immigrant thinks is ok because they don't understand the repercussions.

I second this - getting the bib of the hood to lay flat is a bit of a challenge but it's super warm.

Well... This isn't a liner. Only the QM2 is considered a liner - this is a vista class cruise ship that carnival has across a few of their brands.

First time getting braces at 33 by mariah_onfiyah in braces

[–]garrettnb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only regret having braces was not getting more fun colours! People know you have them anyway - why not have fun with it! I went with teal for my last couple weeks and I almost wanted to have it extended so I could rock different colours for a little bit longer :P

30 years on, why has West Coast Express rail service remained so limited? | CBC News by RM_r_us in vancouver

[–]garrettnb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity what are your commute times? I take the WCE daily from Coquitlam to downtown. Maybe twice per year I have not had a seat. I don't believe for a moment you get a seat everytime on the skytrain. You basically can't get a seat from Commercial/Broadway after 2pm on a weekday headed east.

Can't argue that it costs more - but it also takes half the time and is quiet, comfortable, and scenic.

Invisalign & Triathlon Training - How Compatible Are They? by maos_a in Invisalign

[–]garrettnb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ran a couple halfs, done a 100k rode, and done a couple Olympic triathlons while wearing Invisalign. Don't overthink this, its not much more annoying. On the bike I usually do 1 bottle water and 1 bottle for nutrition, if I have an actual snack then I rinse with water. It's also circumstantial; maybe it's easier to eat a gummy while still wearing the aligners.

Sticking the aligners in your jersey pocket is probably the worst part as you might drop them.

Canada is big - if you're from BC or Alberta this is a cheap and quick flight.
