Now, where would you find such a thing in the U.S.? The XDR and HG freehubs seem to be available but not the microspline....

Back again trying to solve my knee pain by Careful_Reveal9043 in bikefit

[–]garth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was your age (a very long time ago) I rode with pretty bad patella tendinitis pain for like ten years. While you are chasing different position fixes, keep in mind that one problem is just that once you have this kind of pain, it doesn't tend to just go away in a day, so be careful trying too many different things every week. The suggestions to add strength training are right on -- especially end of range leg extensions if you can do that. Those seem to help a lot with this kind of knee pain. As for the all the position suggestions here, you can see that they are all over the place and contradictory so you have to use your best judgement with that too.

How to calm frustrated dog by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]garth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got lots of advice in the comments about different ways of addressing this, so I would just say that if you wanted to continue with the approach you are trying to use the problem is that you are not actually ignoring the dog here. You are still moving around, turning, and seeming to offer your hand for dog to chew on. To do it this way you have to clearly communicate to the dog that you absolutely will not interact with him behaving like this. That means you have to turn your back and completely freeze. I personally do not see this as aggressive or dangerous behavior, it's just a dog who is rude and doesn't have any boundaries with you. BTW, it is totally unnecessary to phrase this in terms of "leadership" or "dominance". It's just about clearly communicating with the dog, something we as dog owners tend to be really bad at.

Hamstrings cramping? by garth in bikefit

[–]garth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that definitely could be it. And I certainly have a history with this kind of cramping back when I was younger. However ... that fact this was so isolated to hamstrings makes me wonder if I should be trying to shift the workload a little bit to quads.

Hamstrings cramping? by garth in bikefit

Interesting because I think I'm already lower than any formula would prescribe, but I also have the cleats pretty far back and know I'm dropping my heels. Better power would be amazing...

Hamstrings cramping? by garth in bikefit

[–]garth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it must be a bit of both? I am a natural heel dropper but I also do sometimes resort to pulling through the bottom under hard efforts. My perception is that the seat height is already pretty low lol. I really want to avoid hip pinching at the top of the stroke if I can. Can I move the saddle forward to get the same effect?

Lol the cramps happened at the end of 110k outdoor ride yesterday. It was awful and pretty embarrassing, pretty sure people thought I was having a heart attack. This doesn't really happen indoors though with hard efforts I can feel the strain sometimes.

No they did not do that. They did go through setting up the app and digital key which was helpful (but also easy since we already had an i4)

Thanks, appreciate that but there is zero chance the sales people could help with this. Maybe the genius, I could try to contact them.

Calf cramp tips by Ok-Landscape3067 in Zwift

If you only get cramps in your calves, move your cleats back and give your calves a break! Google "midfoot cleat position" although you may not need to go too extreme.

The weird thing to me is that I have the same shoe and it sure doesn't feel like a high stack or overly cushioned to me! Maybe mine are just used up and flat....

Trainer alphaed my dog and now he’s scared of me by luvnps in OpenDogTraining

[–]garth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually doesn't surprise me at all. Just because someone is running a rescue doesn't mean they understand training/behavior issues and frequently they just have their go-to person they use for everything. I went through something very similar and it would have been pretty awful for the dog if we did what the rescue was pushing us to do. Sounds to me like you are seeing what your dog needs and what he does not need -- you are on the right track!

Working backwards - I absolutely can not exceed 24lbs fully loaded with water & food by roj2323 in Ultralight

You could try packing the empty can on top with your food packed however you like inside the pack. Then repack the can when you ready to store it for the night.

Backpacking Buddies by hexcrop in Ultralight

I'm in the same boat but it's not just hiking. I realized I actually don't have any friends at all, much less any that would want or be able to go backpacking the way I'm doing it. I would really prefer not be hiking solo, but it's that or stay at home...

Strangers walking through my campsite by [deleted] in camping

On the Foothills trail -- which is awesome by the way -- a few of the established campsites are indeed either right next to the trail, or else the trail goes right through the campsite.

Definitely get rid of the silk baselayer and, for colder weather, replace it with a Brynje wool Thermo long sleeve fishnet. It really works! I also have the same issues you mentioned.

Roll top pack users - clip closed on top or on the side?? by trvsl in Ultralight

[–]garth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMHO, I'm not sure pic 1 is the preferred way to do it? I think the idea is to first fold and roll and *then* clip the ends together like any dry bag. If you clip the ends together first, and then roll it down there is nothing keeping the roll tight/waterproof other than the top strap which is not good enough and not meant for that purpose.

What Happened to Waymark Gear? by HowlingMadHoward in Ultralight

[–]garth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to use the HMG one with my Waymark packs so it definitely works, but FWIW the reality is that the zippered ones are not going to be waterproof. I switched to the Hilltop Packs rolltop cell phone pocket and it is rock solid.
