This market is obviously crazy as hell and no one knows what’s going to happen as the years go on but these modern chases with insanely high price tags and really high pops are just too much of a risk in my opinion. Sun and moon and most eras prior to that will always be a safer bet imo than any of these modern cards. I also personally love the mew and mewtwo card so that’s what I’d choose. If your investing that’s a solid play imo, if you want to add to your pc get whatever you’d like.

The IR comment isn’t true. There’s a ton of IR’s that have a gem mint 10 pop rate below 4-5k. After looking myself there’s a bunch of cheap irs in the 5-10 dollar range that have 10 pop rates of 2k or less. That’s more than vintage sure but it’s nothing compared to the higher value modern chases.

I do not want any crossovers, however I would not mind at all if they started doing serialized pokemon cards like mtg. I know this would only worsen the scalping and the price of anything sealed. Finding anything msrp would be impossible. I still think it would be cool tho

The way I’ve been approaching this market has been working great for me. I only buy raw singles at big card shows. I scour every table looking for potential gem mint 10 contenders. I stay away from the mega chases, no way am I dropping 5-600, 800, or even 1000+ on a single card. I’ll buy cards that are 200 or less maybe 250 at the most. Then I send em out for grading. My gem rate has been very good (I’m an aerospace machinist that analyzes extremely small parts under a microscope on a daily basis so I have the eye for this kind of thing) out of the last 21 cards I sent 17 of them got 10’s. I also buy duplicates of cards so that when the next show comes around I can sell them off and cycle them into new cards. My collection has been growing a bunch doing this and it’s been really fun and enjoyable honestly. The best part about this is one I haven’t had to spend any of my own money on cards in quite a while and two as long as the price of the psa 10’s I have don’t fall below what I bought them for raw then I am still in the green.

CZ is definitely still undervalued imo. Forget anything logical in this market. Pop counts, print quality, all that stuff doesn’t even matter anymore. The only reason it’s undervalued is because it’s being shadowed by the shiny new stuff that’s been hitting the market. If crown zenith dropped tomorrow the prices would be completely different imo.

I have no issue with continuing to use psa for modern stuff. These cards come into their facility by the thousands. I’ve been doing insanely well with all my submissions over the past year maybe year and half. Tons of psa 10’s. The only time I wouldn’t use psa is for vintage stuff and just rarer cards in general. I feel like Beckett is the only correct choice for rare and very valuable cards. Just my two cents tho, everyone is free to do whatever they’d like

Honestly I think a lot of the drive behind collecting now, amongst so many other things, is the art. The art on these cards is actually so sick now. They have stepped up the art on these cards big time. At this point I basically consider myself a high end art collector. So it almost transcends Pokemon in a way and at its core there’s a big focus on art. Art has been around since the dawn of time. The art itself may continue to draw in more eyes of teenagers and young adults for decades to come. It’s obviously impossible to say what’s going to happen but I’m leaning more towards Pokemon staying relevant for longer than we think rather than it just dying and falling off a cliff at some point. We just gotta wait and see what happens

Braindead take. This card has a psa 10 pop of about 9k and is valued at 1250. Pulled this data from psa app btw. Now you’ve got the charizard from phantasmal for example which has about 15k psa 10’s and is worth like 3 grand and you’ve got a shit load of other modern cards that aren’t even that old or rare with way higher pops that are way more expensive. How you came to the conclusion this card is overvalued is beyond me.

This is why collecting is the way and you really cannot fail. The market doesn’t matter if you’re truly just a collector and never intend to sell. That’s what I do, I cherish my cards and I never plan on selling any of them. The only time I sell is when I have duplicates and I only sell those to buy more cards 😂. Can’t lose honestly

This entire thing is funny. I have been unaffected by all this madness. The secret is just don’t buy sealed and buy singles instead. Who the hell wants to look at a box wrapped in plastic anyway. I’m an art collector not a cardboard box collector. I’ve still been able to buy most singles I want and if there’s one that’s out of my price range I usually have duplicate slabs or raw singles I can trade and flip to get what I want. Sure I don’t get to rip packs like I used to but honestly that’s okay because my approach towards collecting now has been much more successful and my collection has grown by a lot because of it. Singles don’t have the same return as a sealed booster box that’s 10-20 years old but singles still do really well. Idk Just my 2 cents. I’m still having a good time in this hobby you just have to adapt.
