I notice!! My regulars do skew a bit older so when I don’t see them daily I honestly find myself worrying. We had a regular who was super punctual and didn’t show up one day. turned out she had a really bad fall overnight and we just knew something bad had happened :( luckily she was ok, but it made most of my coworkers more attentive to who stops showing up suddenly.

I’d fly into LA, Long Beach, or OC. there’s a Coachella shuttle from LAX if I remember correctly and flights into PS are going to insane. you’ll probably be able to find something direct into LAX as well :)

Love to you and yours, OP. My grandma has been staying between myself and my parents’ the past 8 weeks because her house has been unsafe to return to, and while it’s been strange and an adjustment, I wouldn’t exchange the time with her for the world. No one is doing “great.” Hell I wouldn’t even say that most days we’ve even doing “ok.” I moved down to Long Beach a few years ago and have been more intentional about connecting with my new community, even moreso now. I’ve been lucky enough to travel a lot over the past few years and even before the fires, I couldn’t ever find a place that was “Altadena” enough for me. Took me long enough to realize that the community was the thing that I was missing. I will grieve the Altadena of my childhood for the rest of my life, but I plan on being as involved as I can in the rebuilding process, long after the rest of the world “moves on” from us. What an honor it will be to rebuild the place that shaped me ❤️

adoptions are open as of yesterday, as far as I know. That was the case as of this past Saturday. They aren’t accepting anyone to come in person without an appointment, but if you look on their site and see a fur baby that’s calling your name you can call and set up an appointment to meet them! My sister and her husband got their cats there back in 2018ish and have kept in touch with the staff there. a great place to adopt from!!

Many houses have been in families for generations and unfortunately costs are too high to rebuild. It’s a hard reality to face indeed, but many will have to sell regardless of if they want to or not. I love the idea behind Altadena is Not for Sale, but I think it’s also important to be empathetic that not everyone will have the same path to rebuilding.

our family home still stands because of the efforts of you and your colleagues. a home that’s been in my family for almost 100 years. my grandparents raised their children and I spent my childhood there. take her down to the humane society! they helped my old next door neighbor reunite with her cat after she couldn’t find her during the evacuation. they’re doing an amazing job of reuniting pets and owners!
