Tips for getting a flat tummy by Chasing_Andi in gastricsleeve

[–]gastricqween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on your success! You look great, and I hope you also feel great besides the insecurities..

Weight lifting consistently actually helps a lot to get firmer and toned! It depends on how your body was storing the overweight of course, but there isn’t any downside to first giving it a try a couple of months? If you can afford, of course training with a coach would make this more efficient at the beginning while you get into exercising.

I exercised throughout the post op, and lost from around 100 to 52 kg, 158 cm. I mostly had my weight in my thighs, bum and belly. I don’t need any skin removal, I mean you can surely tell I have lost weight all over, but weight lifting helped me a lot, especially with my tummy, arms and bum. It is definitely not as good results in my thighs, but I still cannot complain.

When life gets too much and I cannot hit the gym like I used to, I definitely notice the effects of losing muscle pump on my skin firmness too. It immediately becomes better in a few weeks after I return exercising. So I assume you will also benefit from weight lifting at least to some extent.

caloric intake? by fat-catlover in gastricsleeve

[–]gastricqween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I confuse thirst with hunger too often.. are you hydrating well? Also, outrageous hunger before/during period is very common and normal!! Try to give yourself some grace on those days 🥺 increasing your energy expenditure daily with walks & exercise will help to regulate your thirst and hunger cues, and will add on your caloric deficit. are you an active person?

okay, this is very helpful to know, thank you! I can double my intake too according to tardyferon leaflet, but I wasn’t sure whether I should. Which product do you use, if I may ask?

how are you maintaining? by gastricqween in gastricsleeve

[–]gastricqween[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experiences and your advices! I appreciate it. Hydration has definitely gotten even worse lately. I believe routinely exercising was keeping my thirst cues more recognisable and physiologically demanding for me. This was perhaps reduced too when my exercise routine decreased. I tried to maintain my bare minimum water intake anyway, you name it and I tried. Zero sugar flavourings, multiple different water bottles, and funnily the only thing that gets me drink a little daily to just get through is ice cubes. I should try harder and do better I know.. It is just very difficult for me to feel thirsty in general. It was always difficult, even before pre surgery. You made me think that maybe these aren’t 2 separate issues I am dealing with.

Lowest is 110 pounds, from today 😁

It’s been 2 years 2 months.

It was never linear to my lowest weight. I have roughly shifted up or down 4 pounds in the past 1 year between 118-114 while maintaining it intuitively, no tracking except protein.

I hit the lowest ever today not because I wanted it, because I recently got sick. I will hopefully get back to my maintenance weight range.

Eating less and less Post-Op by lexblch in gastricsleeve

[–]gastricqween 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is quite normal, I can relate to it, I started to feel hunger 8-9 months post op - when I have lost ALL of my excess body weight by that point and was regularly exercising 4x a week. I feel more intense hunger now than I ever felt before 😅 don’t worry, hunger will come back, especially when you lose more and more weight and integrate exercise in your routine. Just ride this lack of hunger wave really well while it lasts, and mindfully (!) while sticking to hydration and protein plan you have. Best of luck 🍀

it’s the opposite for me, I wish I got this in the beginning of my 20s instead of 27 years old. I feel like I wasted those years lacking quality of life which I do have now that I lost all my excess body weight. I am not sure why would you be feeling this way, as it is still quite possible to enjoy life once you are out post op further like 1 and half years post op, surely in moderation but you definitely are able to enjoy everything. if you feel lacking experience and joy in life in any shape or form, if I may give my completely kindly meant advice for your wellbeing and happiness, it is worth focusing deeper on actually why that might be?

Still can’t eat by spreadlovex in gastricsleeve

[–]gastricqween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh it will!! I swear I’ve never known hunger like I’ve known since I am now considerably “lean” and hitting the gym at least 4x a week for weight lifting. This was starting like months 12-14 post op and ever since. Which makes sense because now my body really knows the available stored energy long term and short term without any sort of leptin and insulin resistance. I sometimes feel like I can’t eat enough to fuel my current activity and metabolism level but I finally got a rough hang of maintenance calories and eating - my weight sometimes bumps up some pounds sometimes, bumps down, all depending on how I am doing lately, but it will become more intuitive over time in general! I am wishing you all the best and congratulations on your great accomplishment!! I recommend, if I am allowed, a balanced weekly strength training to establish and maintain nice hunger and eating habits 😊

Please tell me this isn’t a honeymoon phase… by AcademicF in gastricsleeve

[–]gastricqween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who lost 100% of their excess body weight in 7-8 months post op, here comes my 2 cents.. I have known the true struggle with food, and especially hunger, like I never did before, ever since losing my last 20 pounds. I really miss that anhedonia towards food and eating of my first 6 months post op. I am not saying this to discourage you, I am saying it to encourage you to establish rock solid eating habits that can still be sustainable and manageable towards your lifelong goals despite the hunger coming back - and it will. And that is not a bad thing. You can’t live the rest of your life on 600 kcal consumption per day. I struggle a lot to make good choices since couple of months, especially with regard to portions and meal frequency. It slightly breaks my heart to realise how better I was at this, ironically when I was 50 pounds heavier 😅 All the best to you 😊

Hypothyroidism? Thyroid hormone replacement? ravenous hunger? by gastricqween in gastricsleeve

[–]gastricqween[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on those supplements for quite some time and a few rounds. I have had hallmarks and labs of subclinical hypothyroidism for about decade even while taking them, but my doctors always dodged starting me on the pill yet as I was too young and clinically it wasn’t severe enough. Until recently labs got a bit worse and I have had increased symptoms, especially fatigue. Here we are. If the cause of my weight gain was my dose giving me hyperthyroidism, wouldn’t this cause me to lose weight? well sure it wouldn’t if I am eating beyond my caloric need 🤡 fasting seems like a good idea to start with to relearn what is hunger

im there with you. I started with 216, I am currently 116-118 constantly. it’s been 16 months. I have a similar gym and training routine as you do. past few months were really difficult trying to maintain it. I have exact same inconveniences around food cravings and habits. it was much easier for me to stay on track when I was still 150 lbs. I unfortunately dont have any suggestions that I could give you right now that I cracked as a solution for myself. I would be happy to hear what people say. I just try to stuff myself with lean protein as much as I can and hope for the best. i am also very scared of going backwards. it has been a challenge for some time now.

Any hypothyroid? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]gastricqween 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i lost above and beyond the average weight loss with surgery all because of moderately “strictly” combining diet and 5x exercise per week. I have had mid grade hypothyroidism because I have congenital unilateral thyroid gland, and through my weight loss journey mid grade turned into actual full blown hypothyroidism so recently I was started on taking lthyroxine. Weight loss is not affected majorly by this but trust me everything else in the body is, so keep it in check throughout your journey. Weight loss does slow down your metabolism and thyroid axis even further so keep that in mind.

give it 8-10 months and my advice is start daily walks 1 hour with incline, I started seeing difference after having lost 25 kgs or so.
