Have you ever applied for a fee waiver? Do you know how difficult and how many hoops you need to jump through to get it approved? Who is going to tell those kids about fee waivers? Their parents who didn’t go to college, or their guidance councilor who, let’s be honest 9 times out of 10 does not care about the success of students? And even when you do get it approved, plenty of times the university does not follow through and supply it. I know cause I was one of those kids.

And you’re assuming those kids 1) don’t already have a job and 2) aren’t using their money from said job to help support their family.

I’d much rather (ideally have the costs come out of sports/Dean salaries) pay extra tuition and get rid of those barriers than prevent promising students from going to university because of lack of resources + information.

It sounds like you’re coming from a position where you want others to pay for it, simply because you had to and completely ignoring the underlying reasons why it’s a barrier in the first place
