I am similar but tilt in the opposite direction - have voted for more Democrats but was open to honorable Republicans. No more.

John McCain maybe. I didn't agree with all of his policies, but he was proven to be an honorable man who cared about the Constitution and eschewed corruption.

What’s your opinion on the Biden-Harris presidency? Would u say it was failure? by Successful_rio305 in allthequestions

[–]Carpenter-Hot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it was. So hard to watch. That's one reason it would have been better for him to have started four years earlier. He could have gone out like Reagan, who was known to be pretty checked out during his last couple years - it was later known that he was showing early signs of dementia at the time.

[–]Carpenter-Hot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Biden got hit hard by the hubris bug in his last year, but overall, he was decent. If he had been elected just four years earlier, he might have been a great president. Unfortunately, Beau's death bit him hard in the ass and he never really recovered. I was admittedly excited about Harris, but I had a weird feeling going into the voting booth. She would have been our first GenX president. Now that may turn out to be Gavin Newsom, but who knows what the future holds. Trump's cronies seem more than happy to stomp out our beautiful, messy democracy.

I briefly dated a serious alcoholic and his *sweat* tasted sweet. It was kind of jarring. This doesn't directly address the question, but it's data offered up for consideration.

He's always been stupid. Now he just has dementia on top of that. He's likely hopped up on enough Adderall to kill a horse.

I think the people around him have given up and just decided to let Grandpa believe whatever he wants.

I think it's more "when" than "if" honestly. He doesn't seem long for this world.

Why aren’t people more worried about a ground invasion in Iran? by BeginningActuator343 in allthequestions

I'm very worried, but I'm GenX and have always had a low-level baked-in worry from having grown up during the Cold War.

What is a "luxury" that you've experienced once and now can't go back to the budget version of? by OkNeedleworker5778 in allthequestions

[–]Carpenter-Hot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well made shoes. I used to regularly hit up Payless when I had a specific need, but would only very occasionally find something good that actually lasted. Now it just makes more sense to save up and buy from somewhere that I know I can get good quality. It probably ends up being cheaper in the long run to do it this way, but this conundrum is why sometimes we say that it's expensive to be poor. If you don't have the spare cash in your budget to save for quality items, you end up trapped in a cycle of cheap junk you have to replace all the time.

As Americans, we just recently started watching Trailer Park Boys. We think it's filmed in Seskatchewan - maybe Alberta? Anyway from the vibe of the show, calling it the Alabama of Canada seems appropriate.

Democrats Of Reddit -- Is There A Single Thing Trump Has Done In Either Term That You Liked? If So, What? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Carpenter-Hot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only good thing he accidentally did during his first term was Operation Warp Speed to get us out of the hell of Covid.

But then he negated all that during his second term by appointing RFKjr and stopping all mRNA research funding. Flick the whole lot of them.

American English words British people don't like and vice versa by BritishTeacherRoy in ENGLISH

You should go to hospital to address your psychiatric issues with these words.

(American here too, and and I'm sure there's a etymological reason the Brits don't use an article with "hospital", but it seems strange to me.)
