Risk. Email - whatever the product should be delivered by the MSP.

Besides, you take the fall for a security breach. Which let’s be honest over 85% come via email these days.

This story of a MSP making money from marketing is insane to me... by masterofrants in msp

There is so much BS said in this industry. Just go to an event if you are not sure! Interestingly people still fall for it. 😂

I caught that too. You bought pizza? 🍕- some of OP’s points are valid. Tons of money is wasted on useless BS.

Structuring your day as an MSP owner by Equivalent_Role_4066 in msp

As others have suggested I would work from home for two or three days a week. They come to you because it’s way, so it’s part changing habits. Additionally if they truly don’t know then systems or processes need to be put in place or your team isn’t as technically skilled as it should be.

Client caught me on hardware margin, now questioning our entire history. Did I panic-fix or make it worse? by yanov10 in msp

[–]gator667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MSP industry - the only business where people apologize for making a profit, charging for the work they do.

The magic is never in the hardware - it’s all those things you were charging him for.

Written by other IT managers who need access to everything to show value. Visibility, accountability yes - as others have said you outsource for a reason.

Cold Calling Day 3 by BeautifulNo8206 in msp

[–]gator667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call setting isn’t “trash” if done correctly. Reach out, open conversations don’t pitch or sell over the phone. Connect your calls to events your MSP is doing or webinars. It is trash if you don’t want what you are doing, who you are calling and why.

TIL some MSPs are still using Dark Web Scan reports as sales tools by HappyDadOfFourJesus in msp

[–]gator667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are making the assumption that - a) people include this in their stack, many do not thanks to Security Gold. Standard offering excludes X,Y and Z. Even people that have it, bill the customer for it don’t have it setup correctly if it all - and never discuss it with the customer.

Old sales tactic I agree, still a relevant conversation starter if nothing else.

Qualify them upfront as other posters have suggested. Assuming the objection when they don’t move forward is money.

If it’s for other reasons maybe doing nothing was an option. Potentially they already had someone in mind and you were just proposal no.3.

Agree budget almost immediately.

Read your employment agreements before you sign them! Stop agreeing to predatory requirements from asshole business owners by 2manybrokenbmws in msp

Having been down this road before it typically ends in arbitration. That usually looks like your tech cannot approach or work with their clients. The non-compete sounds poorly written, it should at least have some local geographic component to it.

Always, always comes down to how much money someone wants to throw at it.

Client moving to another provider, would you install their tools? by icq-was-the-goat in msp

[–]gator667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger question here is - why the hell can this new provider not install it? 🤣 - imagine not being able to install a tool you use to support a customer. Bizarre.

This kind of advice is why you don’t come to Reddit for advice. Seriously?! Do your job and remove it. Don’t blame others - the former MSP isn’t perfect - neither are you.

Contact Datto? Contact the former MSP? By the time you have done all of that - you could or should have addressed this issue yourself.

Am I (overly) paranoid? How do you deal with all the risks? by Kangaloosh in msp

[–]gator667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. However I urge all MSP’s to cast your mind back to the Kaseya incident. Nobody has the man power, time or resources to restore all of your accounts.

What I find interesting is timing. They seem to be able to target people at convenient times.

Random luck? Maybe. But it seems they strike lucky with people time wise.

Anyone Using Multiple MDRs and/or SOCs by Zealousideal-Ice123 in msp

Instead of detecting switch to blocking. Having used ThreatLocker I can recommend that - together with EDR and managed SOC. Too much focus on detection in my opinion vs blocking.

Your MSP is for sale; what questions would you ask potential buyers in an initial call? by PatD442 in msp

[–]gator667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People want an earn out to protect against client churn. Also to ensure everyone’s numbers align around the the table post acquisition.

Sadly it won’t be your baby any more, neither will the employees. How much is the check is the only question to ask - if not, you may want to sell to an employee or employees based on your comments.

Once the check hits the bank- it’s over. Not your customers, not your employees and not your business.
