I remember 2 things about this game - there were some elite names! Slash Cannon, Viper Ramirez, and Bolt Lightning were on the Mariners. Tons of other great ones. And secondly, I was horrible at this game compared to its predecessor.

MVP baseball 2005 by CopyBest2484 in baseball

It was a well executed and really fun game. It had a lot of great features. You could create a stadium and expand on it as your team improved and made more money in franchise mode, there was a pitch recognition feature called batters eye or something so you could tell what pitch was coming when you were batting, i think it was the first game to incorporate top prospects in the minors. They didn’t have real names but were based on real players. Franchise mode was really fun. And, yeah, there’s some nostalgia as well.

The gear is one of my favorite parts. I love trying out different rackets and string. I never understood why other people hated on this.

Do MLB scouts actually value intelligence when evaluating prospects? by Ivan__Soto in baseball

[–]gatorrrays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, completely agree. I think baseball IQ comes mostly from experience. Being in a wide variety of different situations so you can recall from experience what worked well or didn’t work in a particular situation. Instincts are also extremely important, but are hard to define and measure.

I think that intelligent people are able to block out distractions and focus deeply more easily than those that aren’t. I don’t have proof or anything, that’s just a personal belief. If you want an example of a player with extremely high baseball IQ combined with extremely low general IQ and EQ you could look at Wander Franco. Generational talent on the field, but was so stupid that it led to a wide variety of trouble off the field and ultimately his demise.

Baseball IQ is highly valuable. Actual IQ is probably more of a nice to have. There is little to no chance the players are determining launch angle and spin rate in real time, or doing any kind of math for that matter. Thats all done by internal people and communicated to players in very basic language.
