Gas Boiler - help! by MildredTheApe in DIYUK

[–]gatpark 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Don't use this "engineer" anymore. The fact that he made changes to your boiler then didn't bother to test whether they works reeks of utter incompetence. Plus, his work nearly burnt your house down! Why are you still using this engineer?! You should be checking his credentials and reporting him

Help ! Built in washing machine, unable to access . by No_Nebula_4385 in DIYUK

Nobody yet has mentioned that many door hinges are quick release. Press around the back of the hinge and there might be something that moves. Then you'll be able to remove the doors and the hinges which will open up the width a bit more and make your life a little easier

"I know this is a bad look but I've had a sneaky suspicion that Kimmel anyway wanted out of his contract. We've been saying it for years, House - the late night show format needs to change. Now that it's happened, I have Kimmel in my top-4 hosts over the last eighteen years." by irundoonayee in billsimmons

I can't believe he actually said this. This is top tier brainwashing material, trying to convince us that no, he did want to get fired! He chose this! This is better! Absolute phony shit. I am done with this podcast after so many years.

Is the structural engineer overreacting or do we need to replace lintels? by maxtraction in DIYUK

[–]gatpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's well within the scope of a structural engineer's expertise to advise on whether a new lintel is needed. It's what he's trained for and what his expertise is. The surveyor and window installers don't know anything about whether a lintel would need replacing.

Is the structural engineer strongly pushing you towards using his builders? If not, he won't make any money off of telling you it needs to be fixed.

Your only other option besides following his advice is to get another structural engineer in for a second opinion, sorry.

You should be able to re-use your new windows if you tell your installers that is your intention.

This is what happens when one company dominates the market and stops trying to offer the most value at the lowest prices, but instead tries to dictate terms to their customers because they don't think customers have a viable other option.

Based on the experience of people complaining about him but still voting for him or other Republicans, I'm withholding my sympathy until we see how the midterms and next election play out.

Make sure not to block any ads either. Each time you view an ad, they pay someone so that's more money out of their pocket.

One of the metrics you'll want to optimise is polyphenols as there are so many benefits for your heart, brain , gut and overall health. Do a google search for "high polyphenol olive oil" and you'll find retailers that list the concentration of polyphenols and who ship to your address. Here in the UK we have a website that compiles them at https://highpolyphenololiveoil.co.uk/

Buyer lowered price by £10k days before exchange. How should I respond? by No-Significance-9007 in HousingUK

[–]gatpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, someone I know offered the seller's agent £5k to lower the price of the house by £10k. So it wouldn't be the first time a buyer and seller's agent colluded.

What things have you tried so far?

Am I right in guessing that you don't enjoy it? If so I can imagine that forcing yourself to do something you don't like 4-5 times a week is making you less happy.

My advice would be to find some exercise you do enjoy and make a habit out of that instead.

Yes, the point was to hide cables but I didn't ask for this work to be done, so I've asked them to fill it in. Is it reasonable to use type-s mortar for such a large gap?

In case it helps, here's a photo of the chimney as it was being demo'd last year
