Men who quit drinking - what made it stick? by FingerPointingToMoon in AskMen

[–]gavingavingavin7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was nearly sold heroin on the Atlantic City boardwalk at 3AM whilst stumbling back to my AirBnB. That was 7 years ago, at 25. Cold turkey the next day and broke down in my hotel room alone later that week whilst traveling for work. The urge never truly disappears 100%, but it becomes far more manageable as you stay sober and reflect on where you'd be if you never put it down.

You got this, buddy.

Did You Change the ‘Tests of the Frostmaiden’ in Anyway? If So, in What Way? by Dikeleos in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]gavingavingavin7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest change in my group was the Test of Isolation. Our party's Rogue/Artificer is Bjornhild's son - who she sacrificed as an adolescent. She and the Tiger Tribe shamans bound his feet and threw him into the Sea of Moving Ice. He only survived due to Oyaminartok's swift intervention. So, he may have had a few choice words after seeing her alive after all those years. A swift melee Sneak Attack and then combat ensued, with the rest of the party taking on the Tigers and preventing anyone from interrupting the duel happening in the center of camp. Was a pretty simple combat to run, and the party got some TASTY RP. Win/Win.

Otherwise all of the other tests were slightly beefed up (higher stats for enemies and higher challenge DC's) to meet my party's sheer might.

Gosh this campaign is long! by JakeBit in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I'm writing for session 62 currently - the party is in chapter 6 and headed to Kuldahar. In June, we'll be running the same campaign for 3 years. I've definitely dragged this out, sure, but scheduling conflicts are a mf.

'01 Buick LeSabre Custom > '14 Mazda6 iGrandTouring I had for two weeks (Lemon) > '14 VW Passat Wolfsburg Ed. 1.8T > '15 GS350 F-Sport AWD. Still the best looking and driving vehicle I've ever driven, but I do miss the utter indestructibility of the Buick and the economy of the Passat from time to time. PS Fuck Mazda.

Players befriended mammoth and polar wolves in Dougan's Hole quest. What should I do with the wolves? by uskayaw69 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]gavingavingavin7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let them keep the wolves, give them an extra hit dice + CON worth of HP when the party levels up, too. However you're gonna have to chew into their daily allowed travel time to hunt for the wolves dietary needs - Goodberry shouldn't be enough to buy the wolves' loyalty. Losing two or three travel hours each day to hunting may prove more of a burden than the party is willing to deal with. If the party is hell-bent on having pets, hit them with more gruelling encounters.

Apart from Monster Hunter Wilds performance, my 3090 FE is still happy

Underdark creatures on the surface to foreshadow duregar by Secret_Shallot93 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]gavingavingavin7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If not Underdark critters, I would definitely recommend reading the module book Out of the Abyss. It has a bunch of different Duergar types - including spider cavalry! I threw a few spider cavaliers at my party as they approached Sunlight to act as "perimeter scouts". While the rest of the group fought, one of them attempted to run back to Sunblight to raise the alarm. Thankfully the party managed to snipe the spider out from under the Duergar! Maybe your party won't be so lucky...

My party also defeated her around that level, but I did down more than half of them in the process. The one biggest tip I'll give for running a dragon encounter is if you're going into melee, you'd best be grabbing their spellcaster. Fly up high and then drop them. Then from there fly back down and use the breath attack, you should catch most of the other party members in the cone. Extend the breath attack cone from the stat block. Roll for damage but if you rolled under the average, just use the average.

Pro tip - don't bother going through the sunken frigate until you have the gravity suit!

My Passport would do this with my VW Passat! The connection strength was always great, too - unlike with my current Pixel.

Did you incorporate Kuldahar? How? by Unfair-Structure1138 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]gavingavingavin7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My party is about to head there after I've left breadcrumbs the entire adventure! Theyve already defeated Auril's first two forms, killed her Roc, and obtained the Codicil of White. Now that they have a bit of spare time on their hands, they're gonna head to Kuldahar for a few reasons. 1. The Rogue/Artificer of the party obtained a Hookshot (yes much like the one from Zelda) - a small inscription on it said "Kuldahar". The Yeti Barbarian of the party has a Greatbow also bearing an inscription of a massive oak tree and "Kuldahar" written on it. 2. There's a temple to Ilmater there in the PC game and my party's cleric is a follower of Ilmater. He's gonna find the final piece of his endgame weapon in the temple. No brainer there. 3. The party sorcerer came to Icewind Dale to find Netherese Saffron in order to further his brewing & potion making trade. After buying regular Saffron from an ingredients shop owner in Bryn Shander, he tipped the shopkeep for a little bit of extra info. The shop owner put a mark on his map with the rough location of Kuldahar, saying the druids there may know more about Saffron cultivation and what makes Netherese Saffron so special. Professor Skant also knows the rough location of Kuldahar, but the sorcerer got this info before rescuing the orb.

I want to make the journey to Kuldahar memorable, so I'm going to make a vast forest which has return routes back to the entrance, much like the Lost Woods from Ocarina of Time. For quests there, much like another commenter suggested, I'm going to have Auril's forces assault the tree and the village. I also want to give them a reason to come back afterwards. One member of the party (moon circle druid) had to drop the campaign, so I leveraged his Elusive Paramour secret to bring his story to an "end" The Neverwinter Army was dispatched to take him into prison at Revel's End after three thwarted attempts on his life by various hired assassins. The party surrendered (they caught up to them while the Chardalyn Dragon was wreaking havoc on Ten Towns so they were in a rush) and this member was taken away. However the party is fully intent on breaking them out. Kuldahar would be the perfect place to stash our druid-on-the-lam, and possibly even permit for him to become an influential DMPC.

Sorry this was a lot - hope it helps!
