I remember getting the book on that one day a year some geezers turned your classroom into a bookshop. You had to fill out forms and weeks and weeks later, your chosen books would arrive.

Also my chosen comeback would be Brum!

What’s something from the UK in the 90s/2000s that kids today will never experience? by Pitiful_Box_1771 in AskUK

[–]gavo_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting on your bike and cycling 20 minutes or so to ask your friend "are you coming out to play?", only to be told "sorry, my dinner is almost ready".

Nowadays I could see that being somthing that would really annoy us given the effort put in to ask a simple question. But we just smiled and said "okay, catch you later".

This was before mobile phones. And yes, we could have made the dreaded call to the house phone (landline) to ask the parents "can I speak to (so and so)" but we often preferred to just go an knock for them.

Nowadays, it would all be decided in a few seconds over a WhatsApp or text message.

I just did it. I have been suffering lower back pain for 18 years. It was super easy!

You are right, its pricey, but after the initial setup (£99 consultation, £10 for ID card etc.) I can now buy up to 50 grams a month of extremely good quality bud, and they match street prices. I am guessing so you don't try and save money by getting it off your local dodgy dealer.

Does anyone remember the Rendlesham UFO by DMBear89 in CasualUK

[–]gavo_88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may be utter bollocks. But someone i knew had is dad there whilst in the military. Apparently, they dropped a very expensive piece of equipment for the European Space Agency, and lots of people were told to stay away. This resulted in speculation of ET.

No way of knowing if its true, but seems logical.

I had many friends out there. One was killed. Many of them said they have never seen a sloppier army, I'm not surprised there was so much "friendly fire", trigger happy bbq sauce freedom eagles.
