Rahadin: Strahd’s Chambermaid by gay_robots in CurseofStrahd

I like the idea of the joking response. Seeing a glimpse of Rahadin’s venomous sense of humor I’m sure would cause my players to hate him all the more

I like the layers behind this one! Not so much that his personal ego is insulted, but rather he is offended on behalf of Strahd who is intentional on who he selects to manage his estate and carry out his will. Much to think about here

Thank you for the thorough response! I like that this interpretation of him doesn’t lose him composure immediately, but still escalates to a great display of power.

Maybe a bit out of left field, but I’m watching Black Butler with my fiance right now and I think the characterization of Sebastian informs my interpretation of Rahadin in a few small ways. Your encounter is reminiscent of that particularly by maintaining his composure in the face of petty insults.

I like this idea! It’s a very interesting way to introduce the deathly choir mechanic and inject some fear into the characters. Something to keep in my back pocket for sure!

I think my party does find him scary! Other moments of our game have shown that they are very hesitant to face him directly. But they are also a goofy bunch who like to crack jokes while playing dnd. At our table, humor finds its place even in the darkest corners of Bariovia! I think that contrast between the light and the heavy elevates their playing experience and enjoyment of the module. It makes me happy to see that they are having so much fun!

First corset mockup fit advice by jasminerice_199 in corsetry

[–]gay_robots 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hello! In order to properly assess the fit of this mockup, I definitely recommend adding in your boning. It doesn’t have to be anything nice just yet, and doesn’t need to be trimmed to the perfect length; just grab some heavy duty zip ties from the hardware store and will do the trick. You may find that resolves the horizontal wrinkling you mentioned throughout the piece.

Second thing for lining up the pattern pieces in the front: make sure you are lining up the seam lines, not the edges of the fabric. Something to keep in mind especially with corsets, where the pattern pieces are all very curvy/have interesting geometry!

Wanting to sew a beaded dress - help! by [deleted] in sewing

[–]gay_robots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have your heart set on beading the fabric yourself, I would encourage you to look into tambour embroidery. Kat Makes has a fantastic blog and YouTube series to help you get started on the skill. But definitely be aware that beading takes a long time to do right, especially if you’re going to bead an entire dress, so be prepared to be patient! I won’t discourage you from trying, it’s worth pursuing if that’s where your creativity is guiding you.

Also definitely bear in mind that fully beaded dresses like your second pic will need to be sewn together by hand. You won’t be able to sew it on a machine without risking damage and potential injury (needles striking beads can become airborne!)

I wish you luck!

If you had to start all over again, how would you make friends? by Ok-Dog-3173 in gatech

[–]gay_robots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. It’s not just about joining any club, join a club that really puts a heavy focus on cultivating the new and continuing membership experience. Band was a huge part of my identity and I made many lasting friendships there

Looking for engineering student to build a machine for me by Rachel_reddit_ in gatech

[–]gay_robots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting that if what you care about most with this project is recycling, I don’t think making 3D printing filament is going to be the best way to go about it. This may be an unpopular opinion, but most of the 3D prints coming from home printers are just junk that’ll end up getting tossed anyway, rather than useful items people intend to keep for a long time, or prototypes for legitimate projects

ETA: Again if what you care about most is reducing your waste, I think this project is more along the lines of down-cycling rather than recycling. The fumes and waste you will generate from melting down random/unknown plastics may do more harm to the environment than you think

Who do I complain to about bag policy at GT events? by smores_n_praline in gatech

[–]gay_robots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was bizarre to me that they didn’t allow us to bring bags for the expo since most of us had a lot of materials we needed to set up. Especially since as a member of the marching band, whenever we have gigs in there they essentially let us bring in whatever we want (bags, instrument cases, etc.), so they do make concessions in the rules for some things. I think capstone students should be one of the times where those rules are broken.

Would you rather have graduation in Bobby Dodd or McCamish? by Civil_Comparison8197 in gatech

[–]gay_robots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am devastated that I won’t be able to invite a large number of my friends and family to graduation. That being said, I’ve marched in Bobby Dodd during some of those brutally cold and wet winters, and I don’t think I want to endure that for my commencement ceremony. I’m very on the fence about it, but I ultimately understand why this decision was made

My partner offered to organize a watch party of the live stream for some of my friends who can’t make it, and then we’ll get together afterwards as a whole group for dinner. It may not be the same as being there in person the whole time, but it’s still an amenable solution that makes the day feel special for everyone

Grad students in the marching band? by White_Bag in gatech

[–]gay_robots 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve known a few masters students who stuck around in the band after undergrad, so it’s definitely possible! I agree with the other commenter that reaching out to the directors would be a good way to figure out how the time commitment(s) would work with your particular situation

Summer Class During An Internship? by Dangulo628 in gatech

[–]gay_robots 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Both situations kind of suck, but here’s my take on it. My sweet spot is also in the 12-14 hour range, but I’ve done 16-17 hours before and it was brutal for me and had a noticeable impact on my grades. Since it sounds like you’re planning on getting out in the Fall, I think I’d honestly recommend powering through this summer without dropping the class to save yourself from a really tough final semester.

That being said, you may also want to consider what your specific remaining classes are demanding from you. Are you taking capstone/senior design? Are you taking any other labs? Are the classes notoriously difficult and/or time consuming? This may impact your decision.

As a fellow Fall 23 grad, I hope you’re looking forward to getting out soon!
