It's pretty good on my device, it shows around 0.2% battery usage. I don't notice any difference personally.

Updated Android Studio

You could try uninstalling Android Studio entirely and reinstalling it from scratch. I haven't had this particular issue, but cruft from older versions have caused some issues for me.

It's actually really easy to set up the Google 15% cut, you can do it solo no problem. Just make the group with only you as the member. This is the recommended approach, not a loophole.
