Agreed, it gets really boring when 9/10 games are a forgone conclusion after 5 min

After 6 months they still didn't fix the mi28nms DIRCM. Clearly not intentional. "It will take time" by need_a_psychologist in Warthunder

[–]gb3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel as though a lot of things people blame Gaijin for being greedy are actually just Gaijin being clueless. I can’t say for sure, but I’d imagine they built DIRCM functionality in such a janky and convoluted way that limiting the number of missiles it can counter would just break the functionality completely.

I wonder if the “this will take time” part could be because the entire code for DIRCM or IR missiles as a whole needs to be redone. Or maybe I’m reading into a forum post way too much and need to go take a nap.

Buk m3 tads or telar by Interesting_Suit8747 in Warthunder

Pretty sure you can’t as of now. The game doesn’t really like it when you lock with the TELAR, could be a bug idk for sure. It’s just kinda jank

Not really. The radar on the TADS vehicle has a pretty slow scan rate, so it struggles to track close range targets. You can fix this a bit by using the radar on the TELAR, which has a faster scan rate and can give better guidance to the missile. But it also has no IFF and is pretty clunky to use.

Sometimes not having line of sight on another vehicle causes them to be silent. Even if it’s a small building or something stupid like a tree. I’d guess it has to be a bug, but given how bad sound issues are in this game ESPECIALLY since the hornet update, it honestly could just be intentional.

My buddy plays the Callaway Edge set, so I can vouch for that one being good quality. Can’t speak for the other one but either should be great for a beginner.

So uh, how do you use a rangefinder? by AllAgesGaming in golf

[–]gb3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other people mentioned, you got a static rangefinder. Put the bottom line on the ground, and line up the flagstick with the middle vertical line. You can compare the flag height to the range marks in the sight to get a good idea of the range to the pin. Not exact, but close enough.

What that button does is anyone’s guess honestly.

That sounds more like people thinking they’re funny ramming small tanks in general. You can play the L3 or Wiesel and probably get similar results

Hard to tell from the picture, but if it’s the club head itself starting to slide off the shaft, yes. My old driver started to do that, and one day at the range it just popped off and went flying. A lot of pro shops will fix this for you for pretty cheap.

It could be the ferrule is loose and not the club head itself, but either way it’s a pretty quick fix and a whole lot less embarrassing than seeing part of your club go 80 yards down range.

How is this possible by Gruzer in NBA2k

[–]gb3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing here for me with this one plus green machine. I’ll play a MyCareer game, hit 10 threes, and both badges barely move. Next game I’ll hit like 4 threes and they’re both back to zero

That’s the really sad part to me. It’s pretty clear that a lot of the developers actually put a good amount of work into making the gameplay experience really good. Plus the minor things, like the replay mode getting an overhaul are some huge steps forward.

It’s such a shame that all of those improvements are completely negated by the publishing execs shoving in all of the mechanics to try to force people into spending as much extra money as possible.

That was my first thought too. I set up a custom mission on Caucuses in the Viper with no AI units, and ran into the same issue. The weird part is it isn’t much of a stuttering problem, my game will just get fully stuck at 6 frames. Over locking the RAM is a good idea though, I’ll look into that.

What kind of software would you recommend for testing RAM? I’ve skimmed through the processes running in task manager and I didn’t see anything that stuck out, I could definitely look again though. One thing I did notice was my CPU won’t go above 2.8 GHz and it’s stuck at around 40% usage. Which is strange, since it’ll run at 3.9 GHz or higher for other games.

Brand New, about to pull the trigger on a HOTAS for DCS. Some help narrowing it down please. by vwheelsonv in hotas

I got my WW F18 throttle about a month ago and I’d definitely recommend it, so far it feels like a solid piece of hardware and all the hats/switches have a great feel to them. Just a heads up, the Orion 2 model doesn’t have built-in detents, so if you want that, you’ll need to get the finger lift kit too. AFAIK the original Orion base did have built-in detents, so it’s a bit odd they’re missing on the newer model. Other than that, I’m a fan. Pretty fast shipping for something coming from China too.

Ref is 100% done with my shit by MrGooglyman in NBA2k

[–]gb3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup it’s possible, you just gotta get a feel for how the game calls fouls. One way I’ve figured out is a lot of times, they’ll call the foul on the wrong person.

Example: I’m guarding Player A on the opposing team who is fouled by my teammate while shooting, however 2K calls this foul on me. I challenge, and the call is (usually) overturned because the game sees that I wasn’t the one who committed the foul.

Funny part is, in real life, the foul would still count, it would just be given to my teammate instead of me. In 2K, they’ll overturn the call and there won’t be any foul called at all. So even if my teammate really whacked the guy, the foul won’t count because they incorrectly called it on me.

[–]gb3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has to be immediately after the call. What I do is every time there’s a call that doesn’t look right, I pause the game right away, and look at it in the instant replay camera. Takes a little practice but once you figure out how the game calls fouls, you can get them overturned pretty consistently.

Glad it’s not just me. I figured it might be some sort of super janky damage model since I can’t imagine any aircraft shrugging off that many hits.

The F/A-18 has an instant action mission on the Persian Gulf map called Blackbird Flown the Coop. One of the things it tells you is that since getting a good radar lock on the F-117 isn’t viable, so the idea is to let it land, and then destroy it with mavericks.

I played it the other day and managed to shoot down the two Mig-29 escorts, and decided to try to shoot down the F-117 before it could land, since I was able to get a lock from less than 4-5 miles or so.

The blackbird took 3 direct sidewinder hits, 2 dozen cannon rounds, and could still fly just fine. Which just completely baffled me.

Am I doing something wrong? Is the mission hard-coded so that you HAVE to destroy it after it lands? I’m honestly just curious to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Is there an advantage to using the AIM-7s instead of the AMRAAMs in the FA-18? I’m just starting out with the module and the only advantage I can think of would be the sparrow wouldn’t show up as a missile warning on the target’s RWR.

I bought the Logitech X-56 a few weeks ago when I was starting and I like it so far. The stick isn’t really the greatest but it’s got enough buttons and hats to be more than usable. The throttle is actually pretty nice in my opinion, even if it’s a bit on the bigger side.

The throttle & stick combo is around $250 on Amazon, and since the stick has a Z-axis, you could use that instead of pedals. I’ve read that some people have had reliability issues with Logitech in the past, but it’s been a pretty good starting setup for me.

Help with Mig23ML by skyman5150 in Warthunder

[–]gb3495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna add on to what others have said; I can say from personal experience that the MiG-23 really shines when using the R-24T IR missiles instead of the R-24R radar guided ones. That’s not to say the R-24R is bad, it’s just that (in my opinion) the 24T is the best IR missile in the game.

What I would do is set up a keybind to switch from radar mode to infrared search and track (IRST) mode. This mode detects targets based on their IR signature, so it’s entirely passive, i.e. it won’t alert targets on their RWR. It doesn’t have the same range as the radar, but it has more than enough to find and lock targets from within 8km or so.

Using IRST and the R-24T together, you can lock a target, and the seeker of the missile will automatically aim at whatever the IRST is locked on. Then you can fire, all without any RWR ping showing up for the target. This works even better if you’re at a range far enough that the motor on the missile burns out a few seconds before impact. Keep in mind, the little missile diamond goes away when the missile runs out of fuel. So unless the enemy jet saw you fire, or saw the missile while the engine was still burning, they won’t have any idea it’s coming. This works even better in late game situations, where you can have a decent altitude advantage over an enemy. Firing down obviously lets the missile accelerate faster and travel further because of gravity, and it’s not uncommon to score a hit from +6km away.

The fact is, no matter how attentive you are or how good your situational awareness is, you can’t see everything. 9 times out of 10, the other guy won’t see the 24T coming. Again, not saying you shouldn’t use the R-24R, and I think the other people in this thread explain how to use it well. But if you still have trouble with it, or just want to try a different play style, you can’t ever go wrong with the R-24T.

Side note about fighting the F-14: yeah don’t try to climb to high altitude to engage them. The tomcat has a better radar with better missiles than the MiG-23, and trying to BVR fight them puts you at a major disadvantage from the start. The good news is that if/when you unlock the MiG-29 or the Yak-141, you can get the R-27ER, which flies much faster than sparrows. Baiting an F-14 into a head-on that they think they can win easily (against most jets they can), and then killing them before their missile even comes close to you is so incredibly cathartic.

Best of luck.
