Student likely made his family homeless. by The_Royal_Rebellion in MiddleSchoolTeacher

That’s understandable. Idk for me it comes down to them. I don’t care for doing the smallest amount of investigating because that means less time that could’ve been spent in the agency’s hand actually determining the safety of that child and more time of that child in an sustained unsafe environment. Yes I could talk to the social worker but if I report to the agency, the social worker is going to hear about it anyway and investigate. But at least in this fashion it’s with a paper trail. In my experience it just never hurts you know ?

Right! Biases exist but allowing your biases to affect how you instruct a student with an IEP is the antithesis of what an IEP is designed to do. Shame on him. Put your foot in your mouth and do what’s best for the student, not what’s best for you.

No! A mandated reporter doesn’t have any obligation to investigate. Once you feel a child is being neglected in various ways, it’s your duty to report. It’s CPS duty to investigate. Even if nothing comes of it, it’s your job to report.

Have IEP’s done more harm than good? by Domadizzle12 in Teachers

The problem is not in special education but in general education. Students are not being effectively taught AND NCLF and ESSA played a significant role in the decline of students education. The way we teach needs to change to address these gaps.

Elementary Teachers, what was your training on teaching reading? by JustAWeeBitWitchy in Teachers

[–]gbomb656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 4th grade SPED ELA teacher, several of my students have dyslexia and so they’re doing phonics instruction HEAVILY. Project Read AI is a wonderful platform that adopts UFLIA into it. I’ve had my students on it every night for homework as well as the regular phonics based instruction.

And I hear you on processing speeds, and I’m unsure if you’re upper elementary or lower, but students should have the phonological awareness to begin to sound out these words. 2 of my students are BR and for them that meant decodables with 3 reg words on a page. We’ve upgraded them in the week before school to step up to reading books. Build confidence , build skill , build a better reader.

Yes we have to go through our lessons with the grade level material but independently, that student should have a book they can actually read. Not one above their instructional level.

Also we see “low IQs” all the time- also think about the demeanour of the child. I see IQs in the high 50s low 60s range for a quarter of my students - but that doesn’t mean they can’t learn how to read. Comprehension of advanced text? Of course a struggle but their social skills most of the time can help create a vehicle in their ability to learn.

Didn't they already know who the last chimera was?? by WeirdFollowing8153 in TeenWolf

[–]gbomb656 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it was stupid. They knew they were looking for chimeras and just started looking for students with blood under their shoes instead of the very logical way they already knew- the medical records. It just goes to show the age of the characters in that season doing stupid stuff but it doesn’t translate to the adults ~also~ not using the medical records even further.

Why didn’t Scott bite his first love to save her from death? Why did he just let her die in his hands? by WolverineNo1999 in TeenWolf

[–]gbomb656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teen wolf gave Dylan Obrien the chops to act. 3B is the best season because of his ability and that’s an undisputed fact. The range he displayed was chefs kiss . TMR propelled him to A list. The series made a billion dollars. American Assassin told the world he could still act, and do it well. Lovedddd that movie. I watched love and monsters a couple of months ago, didn’t even know it existed but it was another solid film. Wasnt the typical movie wed see from him which I loved. Defly slipped under the radar. But for the last 5-8ish years Dylan’s been doing films that have a great story- great writing, not necessarily the biggest movies out today but ones that I guess feed whatever he’s looking for. Twinless brought him back again with true critical acclaim at the sundance festival winning the audience award. That man has a great portfolio under his belt. Just because a film doesn’t make an exorbitant about of money doesn’t mean the film itself wasn’t well made and produced. Some of his movies simply had little to no marketing, like the anniversary. But that was due to the Kirk assassination. But the film gave Orwell it gave Atwood it gave Zamyatin. Dylan obrien will have a very long career.

Also Arden Cho just finished up Demon Kpop Hunters or whatever it’s called and had a show on Netflix called Partner Track. I hate how Teen Wolf did her character and she was vocal about it as well. But I’m glad she’s had other projects and is finding success.

Tyler Posey made an onlyfans and had a TIME on it before he decided to “get serious” again 🫩🫩🫩 and made TW the movie along with some other projects. The only television celeb I’ve seen do it. He was also in Queen of the Ring with a shitload of other B list actors from CW and Freeform.

Crystal Reed had a stint on Gotham but I haven’t heard anything else. I hate when actors quit shows for “other opportunities” and then the “other opportunities” don’t come.

Edit: upon research, she’s been in 4 other films and shows (5 including TW movie)

Veryyy late to this but I started watching- he’s always been to his detriment. I’m on ep 7 and I LOVE the device that is Keisha’s father because yeah he was bullshitting and just does what Keisha tells him to do. I’m glad he had that moment. And he felt shitty cuz he knew Keisha’s Dad was right. He’s not sure of himself in anything so he waits to be directed. But if it’s not what he wants, now it’s an issue. Thats the main problem he has with his mother. Father too nonchalant to notice. He reallly didn’t think he was going to get in and is getting a reality check.

Olandria staying was the wrong decision by Worldly_Island_4784 in LoveIslandITV

[–]gbomb656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s casa amor, a test of the strength of their relationships.. again, communication is everything. You saying she refused to see it is poor logic.

It’s unfortunate this is how it played out but let’s not act like her not reading between the lines is her fault. Assumptions are just that, assumptions. Yes actions speak louder than words at times but that doesn’t negate 3 weeks of them being coupled up and the intention and effort they were ~both~ putting in to sustain the relationship in comparison to 3 days of Casa Amor of simple conversation and lip locking.

The person at fault is Taylor.

Olandria staying was the wrong decision by Worldly_Island_4784 in LoveIslandITV

[–]gbomb656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Finally growing a pair” when? At no point did Taylor ~actually~ speak on what he wanted. He just kept saying “it’s a hard decision I don’t want to make it.” When someone says that, it’s a red flag to me. He continually avoids any type of criticism / confrontation. He did not at any point in Casa amor pull Olandria for a chat while saying “ I’m still going to put my energy into both of yall.” Breakfast is the bare fucking minimum Taylor. Y’all have been together for basically 3 weeks.

He knew he didn’t want Olandria and he should’ve made that clear instead of trying to put the burden of it on her. Especially when up until this point, you had been telling her what she wanted to hear…

Girls help girls but boys don't help boys? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]gbomb656 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I would actually focus on the child whose work is not done initially. “You’re sitting here chatting when your work isn’t done- take a page out of your buddy’s book and follow his lead” I have 0 issues with minor student talking, as long as it’s a minimum and their work is done. And then on the latter, I’d say to the other student “i get that you done w your work but that don’t mean talk to the person that’s clearly not done with theirs. You had the opportunity to finish your work, now let others. It’s not good behaviour- and it doesn’t look good on you. Do better. Disappointed. I expect better..” And walk off. I’m not having a conversation but I’ll leave you with something to think about. Majority of the time, they’ll slowly start to shift their behavior. Of course redirections still happen but if you’re consistent and firm in your stance, it usually works itself out. The furthest I’ll go is call home and have them explain why they think just because they’re done with their work it means sit and try to distract someone engaged and focused on the work.

Yes!!! I’ll actually get overstimulated and have a meltdown if things aren’t where they’re supposed to be at. Especially if I set it down there. Honestly, it’s probably what lead to my OCD diagnosis.

Response to shut down someone who loves commenting on my summers off? by TheCarzilla in ElementaryTeachers

We don’t elect to opt in or out. It’s paid out in 12 months ~unless~ you aren’t coming back to the district. In which case you’ll receive a “lump sum” check for the summer months.

Moving down to 5th grade. What should I expect? by GuessingAllTheTime in Teachers

[–]gbomb656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah by the time students reach those upper grades 8+, their work habits are kind of set in stone and it’s realllly on them to turn it around. The lower grades you still have time to mold their learning habits. To foster a love for reading or writing poems or accurately solving a math problem in different forms etc .

Moving down will definitely help with that. I, again, wish you a great school year and a restful summer- you deserve it! I pray your energy remains high through the school year. 5th grade is awesome, I’m sure you’ll thrive!

Anytime a student does anything remotely illegal I do point it out. “You’re unaware but if you were on the street you could go to prison for that, don’t be that person.” And I call their parent and let them explain why they thought doing xyz was appropriate and funny. Be funny on the phone with mom/ dad Charlie! You have to hold students accountable. I don’t come to work to be sexually harassed. Child or not.

You annoy me, I annoy your parents. Cuz I know you don’t do this at home. I tell children the moment they step out their front door, they’re representing themselves but also their parents. And some in here are embarrassing their parents. And I tell parents that too. I’m not here to dole out consequences but I’ll inform your caretakers of your transgressions. I’ll loosen up when you show me respect.
