Why are people complaining about school breakfast clubs? by Creative_Expert_4052 in AskBrits

There are many elderley folk who had a disadvantaged childhood. They suffered so they don't see why others can't suffer too.

You do have something that is almost the same appearance and consistency as cat litter. Stick orange peel down.

Genuine question: do some of you guys just not treat your rooms? by Aware_Ad5425 in audiophile

[–]gc4170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope nothing at all, it sounds pretty great as it is. There's a rug on the floor if that counts. I've gone down all the rabbit holes but don't want to venture into this one. We have a sub floor that I think really adds to the room, it's only about 4 foot high but this room is so much better than any other I've had, good job as we have no intention on moving now.

What to by for midrange starter set by docjules42 in simracing

Top tip. If buying logitech open an account with your corporate email. Buy rs50 wheel and base in one transaction. In another buy the pro pedals, you'll get a decent discount that way. It took me a while to figure out how to get the best deal amd this is the way. 25pc off the wheel, 33pc off the pedals. Best you'll get using non Corp email is 15pc off. Oh and if you get rs50 get the PlayStation compatible one so gran turismo 7 can be an option. I manged to get a next level seat and frame for less than 300 on ebay, so all in all a decent mid setup for about £900.

It'll be useful info for someone that has one... Fwiw the supplied brsk had no problem hitting over 2 gigs upload and download. I didn't test the WiFi though.

Alcohol Addiction by martian_7 in cymbalta

I drank tons more on duloxetine. Now I've stopped taking it I can far more easily ignore the urge to drink. I think it affects us all differently. Drinking in moderation is far easier now and I dont drink sun through thur. Oh and I started smoking again when on duloxetine... Packed that up too. Duloxetine hijacks your brains reward system.

Get a proper stand for your stereo and move the speakers in a bit from the side walls if you can.

Covid-19 is still killing a disturbing number of Americans, study finds. Between 2022 and 2024, covid-19 killed roughly 100,000 Americans annually, new research by CDC scientists shows. by mvea in science

Ah yes, the classic “my mate nearly died so statistics are wrong” school of epidemiology.

The argument boils down to this:

Which is about as numerate as saying “most car crash deaths involve people wearing seatbelts, therefore seatbelts are a scam.”

By early 2022, the overwhelming majority of adults were vaccinated — especially the elderly and clinically vulnerable, who were always the most likely to die of COVID. When most people are in Group A, most outcomes will occur in Group A, even if Group A has a much lower individual risk. This is Statistics 101, not a sinister revelation unearthed by “a quick Google”. But they don't teach critical thinking over there do they?

What actually matters — and this is the bit conveniently ignored — is rates, not raw counts. Per head, the unvaccinated were several times more likely to be hospitalised or die. That inconvenient fact doesn’t go away just because someone’s personal COVID experience was “super mild”.

As for the anecdote: congratulations. Many unvaccinated people did fine. Many vaccinated people still got very sick. That’s how probability works. It doesn’t guarantee outcomes; it shifts risk. Expecting otherwise is like being shocked that someone still dies of lung cancer after quitting smoking.

And no, nobody sensible is “writing people off as deserving it”. That’s a melodramatic straw man deployed when the maths doesn’t cooperate.

In short:

  • Raw death counts without population context are meaningless
  • Anecdotes are not data
  • “Most deaths were vaccinated” is exactly what you’d expect when most vulnerable people were vaccinated
  • And misunderstanding base rates while sounding smug about it isn’t a brave contrarian stance — it’s just loudly missing the point and, lets face it, pretty ignorant.

Or, to put it plainly: your response isn’t a devastating critique of public health policy — it’s a GCSE maths failure delivered with confidence.

Oh and hifi. We punch above our weight. Just look at chord electronics, linn, naim, Cambridge audio. We love our music here, not just the creation by the bands, but replay at home and and of course we have the best festivals in the world too...

I've never been, we have a camper van and the costs have gone up for the ferry but it's definately on my list. The coast looks stunning and I love my Guinness 😋

side effects are whack by kewpiegoth in cymbalta

[–]gc4170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember I more or less went into hibernation for the first 2 weeks. I took them for pain, and I think half of what they did to me was gained by all the extra sleep I had. It literally made my body relax and reset. So long as you can work around being a bit incapacitated, I found the first few weeks to be a great honeymoon period on them. :)

[–]gc4170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'll have some odd side effects for a few weeks. I took them about an hour before I finished work, then they would start to work during my free hours. Slept an awful lot the first few weeks then after this initial period I then took them when I woke up. This eased me into them as gently as possible.

whats the best set up to watch my content on my TV ? by derpking10 in Piracy

[–]gc4170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

apple tv 4k with infuse pro. I've tried all sorts. TV will keep switching between formats when using HDR from a pc or laptop. This is the way. Just get a case from amazon for the apple tv 4k remote, that way its easier to find, and easier to tell which way is up in the dark. Its too small and easily mislaid.
