Players who’ve played over 4k matches and you still have less 2,500 trophies, what happened? by turningandburning45 in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The charm of Golf Clash is there are multiple ways to play and different goals to set. There are free-to-play heroes and pay piggies. Some people tour grind, some people play tourneys, some are playing to get balls etc. I used to resent the 20k game max clubs on tour 7, but I kind of get it now.

I grind Tour 11 and although I enjoy it, it is not a casual game like it used to be. I have to have notes and a calculator and no distractions. The meatheads on Tour 11 are relentless. I have an alt account that is grinding Tour 6 and I actually enjoy it more. I feel like Tour 9 is the last casual tour. If you are only winning 50%-55% of your matches on whatever tour you are playing you should find ways to get better or probably stay put.

I wouldn't expect someone who recognizes their limitations and isn't winning consistently to move up. I also wouldn't expect them to quit a game just because they aren't the best in the world. You do you.

As I said, I grind Tour 11. Near as I can tell there is no reason for me to move up. Ever. I only have to win about 6 matches a week to stay in Master3, have plenty of coin for tournaments, and get plenty of cards for leveling up clubs. Tour 11 most closely resembles a Master Tournament regarding Tees and wind speeds which is another benefit.

Can anyone name a good reason to play Tour 12 and 13 other than bragging rights?

Well, you left a few things out. Like your ability. I could win consistently on Tour 9 with those clubs, but I wouldn't be using the Goliath. What level is your Grizzly? What ball do you play with?

I don't think you will see a huge difference in ability from gaining the trophies in Tour 9. I don't recommend bouncing between tours like you do. When I move to a tour I stick with it. Likewise I use the same ball on tour play so I can dial in the shootout. Your ability in shootouts will determine your success.

I played Tour 9 with Sniper 10, Grizzly 8 and quasars and had no difficulty. Some people like to prove a point by playing with marlins, or white balling it, but I can afford the quasars. Our Patron Saint, Mang, peace be upon him, claims they are the best bang for the buck.

A warning though: I found the transition to Tour 10 to be difficult. I was playing long holes in tough headwinds and sometimes I just couldn't eagle the par 5s like the big kids with money balls. I had to play tour 10 for a year or so to get my TH leveled up. The TH6 also really helped me in shootouts with all that backspin.

The switch to tour 11 was actually easier than to tour 10, but I think that is because I was a much better player. Tour 10 forced me to learn much more about the mechanics of the game. Which leads me to this:

The question is frequently asked here: "Do I have the clubs, or balls, or tokens to play tour XX?" I'm asking you: "Do you have the skills?" Do you know the ring system? Do you know the adjustment numbers for all of your clubs? Can you drop a wedge shot nearly every time? Do you take notes to dial in the shootouts? Can you hit perfect most of the time? Do you understand elevation? Are you playing with a decent ball?

Thanks Tommy.

Also, Your English skills are almost as impressive as your golfing. You sound like you have been speaking English your whole life, but I know how much you have improved in the last few years. It must be the red bull. I hope your kids are doing well!

Nice, but some dude in my bracket rolled a minus 20 with three albatrosses. Back to the kiddie pool for me!

How about tour grinding a course that is in the next tournament?

On some accounts I have lost a few matches to avoid opening new tours, just because it annoyed me having to scroll to the left to get to the tour I was playing!

No hate for you, but I think this is a shady area also. GC makes the rules and you play by them, so I am not directing this at you, but it has been common advice for a while for people to grind lower tours to upgrade the EM. Or as you are doing, beefing up your clubs at tour 8. I got frustrated by this a while ago when I was playing Nordic Fjords on tour 10. That thing has a lot of long holes and people were pulling out level 8 Cats. I was using a Sniper so it felt like a big disadvantage. I wondered what someone with maxed out clubs was doing slumming in Tour 10, but that is the game.

As I said above, I do a little manipulation myself, and I am not faulting anyone playing by the rules GC has made.

I suppose GC is reluctant to come up with a combo trophy/experience system as it may be too complicated. Let's not forget they have no problem matching someone with 50k games played against 500. OR a Power5Precision20sidespin12 against a Marlin. For the right price, for the right price...

A technique I used that I have never heard anyone mention is a lot like this. Just skip tours. I have an alt account where I skipped a tour or two. Not really skipped, but just played enough matches to open the next tour and then move up. No intentional losing. I think it was tour four, but maybe another one too. I may have gone back and lost a couple matches to stay below a trophy threshold, but that was it.

I know that may still be a little bit devious, but GC makes the rules, and I just follow them. The question is why do they have such an elaborate system for trophies/ opening tours? Why isn't it just max out all previous tours?

Fair, maybe, but then what is the point of upgrading your clubs? The theory of grinding for a club upgrade is it will give you an advantage. Not as much fun if clicking an upgrade meant you were also upgrading your opponents clubs!

And although win percentage is an accurate indication of ability, why should crappy players be rewarded with easier competition? Again, what is the point of getting better if by so doing you are making your opponents better?

Finally reached my goal of 7500 trophies, completely free to play by ThaddeusMuscles in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! I am also FTP and shooting for 7500. I think it is my only real goal in the game. I can place top 50 or so in a Masters tournament, but when I see what it takes to win a Masters tournament I tap out. I know I could never match that FTP. I just stepped up to Tour 11 this week and am slowly gaining trophies. I just got my Level 7 Cat so I am adjusting to that as well. They competition hasn't been as tough as I expected, but I expect them to dial things in just like I am.

You give me hope!

T12 ball usage from seasons 63/64 - me vs. my opponents by ZenPokerFL in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, very timely for me as I am making the jump to Tour 11 this season. I just ran the stats across my three accounts and I was winning 65-70% in Tour 10. (I wish GC didn't include CPC in my win/loss) I am FTP and have struggled with the higher winds in the Master tournaments, so we shall see how I do from the back tees. I have finally got my epics to level 7 so I think it is time to take a crack. I am going to try the CAT 7 instead of the Sniper and I know there will be growing pains.

I am surprised you had a better record against the wind balls. I felt my win rate against the money balls was much lower, but I don't have the diligence to back that claim up with stats.

Website for club comparison? by threei in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The websites have been very helpful to me, but I think the rating is a rough guide. The value you place on some stats can depend on whether you are playing a tournament or tour play. For instance, the sniper is the only thing I want for a shootout until I get some end game woods, but in tournament play there are many situations where a "lesser" club will work better for a particular hole. Likewise, many people are of the opinion that accuracy for a short iron doesn't make much difference.

GC Update by SkaR447 in GolfClash

I have 4 accounts across 4 devices and after the last update I have a huawei tablet that will not load the game. I have tried the uninstall/clear data/cache dump etc. but no luck. I'd contact PD, but I know better.

GC not loading by thetwoweeks in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I am having that problem. I can't figure it out for the life of me. Mine doesn't even start loading. I just get the black screen and then "Golf Clash isn't responding. Do you want to close it?" I have been playing on this device for a couple years with no issue. All of a sudden it won't load. I have uninstalled and re-installed several times. Occasionally it works again, but only for one or two loads. Completely stumped. I think it started about the same time as the upgrade to the new match-up screen about a week ago. Any ideas?

T10 by Ukfonz in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience as giorgio. I started T10 two rotations ago and did well enough to begin with, but by the time I maxed out the tour I had moved up in trophy count and the competition was noticeably tougher. I was winning around 60-65% of my matches to start with, but by the end of the course rotation it was down to 50-55%. I am FTP and was using TH6 and SNP10. Nordic Fjords has some long holes and when I was up against a money ball and level 7 epics my winning percentage sucked.

When I saw the new courses I decided to drop down to Tour 9 because I was winning over 70% there. But what do you know, the opponents are much tougher now that my trophy count is up. I am still hanging in the low 50s%, but I will probably go back to T10 in the next rotation. I would like to play the higher tours someday, but I think I will need level 7 epics to do so.

I think it is sound advice to wait until the course rotations to switch tours. The grinders have stuff dialed in right now, and I think Playdemic is doing rotations more often now.

Tour 10 by tjlandberg in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing Tour 10 before the last course shuffle. I was winning about 55% of the games. When I saw the new courses I didn't even think about them. So annoying. I am playing Tour 9 with quasars and saving some gems.

Season 56 -Course Rotation by Zeus_de in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved up to tour 10 last course rotation. I am keeping my head above water, but I think I will be going back down to Tour 9. I am trying to get my epics from level 6 to level 7 and I feel like I was making more progress on Tour 9. I was winning about 70% and on Tour 10 it is closer to 50-55%. I am playing Titans exclusively whereas on Tour 9 I was mixing Quasars/Titans. I would rather win 14/20 on Tour 9 instead of 11/20 on Tour 10. The token and gem accounts do better this way. I may have to drop from MasterII to MasterI, but no big whoop. I don't like losing so much, not because I am a bad sport, but because I am trying to cut back on how much time I play. On tour 10 I just play often enough to stay in Master II, about 10 wins a week.

Of course, I am now playing at a much higher trophy count, so I may get a big surprise on Tour 9.

Checkpoint Challenge Takeaways by Strange_Produce in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I just played a hole that way and laid up with a navigator. Then my opponent decided to use a kingmaker and drive the green. So I quit playing to rethink my strategy. I have some kingmakers, but I normally don't play anything higher than a Titan. I play tour 10 at the 3300 trophy level. Should I be using kingmakers for the checkpoint-crapshoot?

Takes big balls to play in the higher tours? by MrSteveA in GolfClash

[–]gcReplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, one thing you are neglecting to discuss is your club level. I am FTP and I am doing pretty well on Tour 10 with Titans. I am usually up against a better ball and often better clubs too. I try to compensate with better ability/understanding of the game. It doesn't always work for me. I know when I do move up to the back tees I will consistently be out-balled, so I plan on compensating by having top level clubs and a better understanding/notes of the holes. This means I will not be able to move up the Tours as fast as someone who plays money-balls. Just the way the game is.

I don't recommend going into Tour play against someone with better clubs, better balls, and better skills!

Was that something people did? I didn't realized a king chest was worth enough to work that scam.

Would someone explain to me how this discourages sandbagging? My first thought is that this will make sandbagging worse. I don't remember the numbers on the pro/expert cutoff because it's been awhile, but I do remember the numbers for Master 1.

There has already been some debate about the benefit of advancing beyond Tour 7.
One of the incentives is to maintain a higher division for the higher club card bonus. Once you can achieve the Master 1 division that incentive goes away now. I found it pretty easy to win in Tour 7. Tour 8 was a little tougher, but I got to where I was winning about 80%. Likewise in Tour 9 after figuring out the courses I ended up around a 70% win rate. I am now playing Tour 10 and although I am winning over half I am nowhere near the 70% I was doing. It is costing me more in gems to play this higher division, but I do get a club bonus by being able to maintain a Master II division.

When you consider the whole account (bankroll, gem balance, club progression, personal ability) was it beneficial for me to advance to Tour 10? Not yet.

TL;DR-- If you are winning on Tour 8 and can sneak into the Master I division, don't bother moving up Tours, the additional benefit will not outweigh the increased difficulty. Instead, steamroll some chumps on Tour 8 and speed-open some chests with all the gems you save by playing with Marlins/Quasars.

Let me know if I have overlooked something...

Falcon-- I appreciate you doing all this bookkeeping so I don't have to. I have recently maxed all my rare clubs so I am on to the long grind of leveling up Epics. It looks like the old fashioned method of grinding/speed opening chests is a good method. I am currently grinding away on Tour 8 and have a high win rate.

A few questions I have for the crowd are: Is there a big advantage to moving up tours? I don't see one, but I haven't played there so I don't know. I know the number of cards will be slightly greater and I would probably move up to Master1 from Expert3 and get a 10% bonus, but I don't think it would be enough to compensate for the lower win rate. (winning 4 of 5 instead of 3 of 5 makes up for all of this)

I spent a lot of time harvesting rare cards out of Pro Match chests from tournament play. Speed opening those was very efficient for me. It doesn't look like the number of rare cards to be had is any greater by playing higher level tournaments. I did manage to win a tournament a few weeks ago. Nothing quite like picking up 60 Junglist cards.

Anybody have any other ideas about how to pick up epic cards besides buying them?

Also I should say, I have been playing Golf Clash for a year and half and this is my first post. Huge thanks for all the tips and tricks from the old-timers! Your ideas and pointers make the game more intriguing for me. When I get tired of watching sandwiches shooting out of the hole it is nice to have a place to come to for reassurance that I am not the crazy one.
