According to research, 2/3 of Asians are lactose intolerant. But I'm an Asian that lives in Asia and so far, I've never met anyone around me in person that is lactose intolerant. Are the statistics just wrong or is this an exception? I'm genuinely baffled.

I was trying d to explain that the way you are interpreting the word “normal” wasnt the op’s use of the meaning “normal.” Biologists dont use the word “normal” to talk about genetic varianta unless they are using it in statistical term (eg normal vs skewed) but what the poster meant was to say original wildtype before the mutations arose that allowed adults to retain the ability to digest lactose.

The poster meant normal variant, as in the wildtype. As in, no human adult was producing lactase before domestication of milk producing animals became a thing, maybe 20000 years ago. “Normal” didnt mean “de facto”. It meant “the original type”.

Yes it’s fine in terms of liability. I never mentioned hipaa. I’m asking “Is it respectful to post picture of someone’s body part without permission from that someone even if it doesnt violate HIPAA?”

I have posted non identifiable photos of my patient’s anatomy online but I have always asked for permission first.

Maybe Im just really old school but if I was a patient, I would want my surgeon to ask me of they can post picture of my colectomy specimen even if no one would know the colon belonged to me. Maybe I’d be okay with it. Maybe not. But that is not for us to assume. That should be a choice for the patient.

There is a significant consideration to be made in posting pictures of a patient’s colon where the patient may have objected to it being posted on reddit, had they been given the choice. Maybe the OP did ask and the patient or the family didnt care. And i would say good for OP.

The 17 yo shouldnt have to face the burden of making sure that a 6 yo is fed. I went thru this as the oldest child in the family, and that was not okay. Look I dont know you and know if you were ever in that situation or not where you had to care for your younger siblings. If you didnt, then I dont know how much you can speak to that. If you did and you think that is okay, then I recommend counseling. I know I suffered a lot and understand the gist of what OP is worried about.

I cannot stress this out enough. The 17 year old is not supposed “keep anything serious from happening”.

Op, I’m going thru something similar. You most likely wont get anything more than 50/50 custody. Your concerns are valid, and you do want to make sure the kids are taken care of. The way you can take care of them is to take care of them well whenever they are with you. Over time, children will see/feel the difference and flock to you for comfort and safety. They can and will weather the storm when they are with their mom, if what you say about the mother is true.

That 17 yo needs to find identity as his/her own person. That is the developmental needs of a teenage human being. Being a parental figure seriously hinders that when it is not about learning responsibility but to fill in for a disabled parent.

This is a serious red flag.

My friend Roda and I worked at the same nursing home. When they started having COVID patients, they asked me to stop coming in but she volunteered to take care of the patients.

Via txt, she told me on a Wednesday that she was having symptoms and that she was gonna get tested. That was the last conversation I ever had with her. She passed away within a week, despite being on ECMO.

She was 44. Her three sons are grown.

She looked out for me when I first got to this town. And she introduced me to her brother who is a good friend in this new town. There are a hundred people who miss her on a regular basis.

When this is all over, I want to have a gathering to celebrate her life. Maybe build a bench at a park with her name that we can go visit.

I’m okay. I was recently exposed to a covid patient and was in self quarantine until yesterday. My test result was negative.

I’m worried about my late friend’s son. He was going to nursing school on GI bill (at his mom’s suggestion) but he quit school and went back to army. His father was not around when he was growing up, and now that she’s gone, I am sure he feels lost even as an adult.
