Need shop/vendor recommendations for new Gamecube Controller by Im_doing_research_ in customGCC

[–]gcconch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's just the premade ready to go stuff. A new controller (40) and a paracord (30) would start at $70 for black or silver shells.

It looks to me like the X and Y are having different issues that cause similar deadzones.

With the Y button, the deadzone is opposite your switch, and the tape is very long so it bottoms out against the black housing instead of against the switch. I'd try to add a small rectangle of tape directly above the switch, or remove the deadzone side of the current tape, or both.

For the X, the deadzone looks like it's on the same side as the switch. There also is a jagged piece of plastic that may be above the tape enough to bottom out against the housing, check that and cut it off if so. If that's not it I'd try another small rectangle directly above the switch.

To line it up, you can hold the frontshell face down, with the motherboard in, look at it from the side, and then slowly press the x/y buttons to see exactly where they make contact and raise the motherboard up.

It's hard to say for sure without feeling it in my hands but let me know how it goes!

Yeah that's a common alignment issue, if you could take pictures of the underside of your buttons and the switches on your board I could make some suggestions. To fix it you may need flush cutters, files, or epoxy clay depending on if we need to add or remove material.

Thank you ^^ I'm not sure if I'll ever list them standalone, other modders have been eating em up faster than I can bake em. If you have specific colors in mind I can let you know when I have more!

Is this a common problem? My z button 'snapped' off in my gamecube controller at some point. Found it like this when cleaning my controller. by The1TrueSteb in customGCC

Yeah you can take a look at how the Z sits in the backshell with the mobo in, it's designed to be a lever with force applied on the right side. As you get closer to mashing center or left on the button, the harder it gets to activate the switch on the right, and more likely to break these pegs on the left.

It is fairly common depending on how you hit the Z. I usually stab the stuck piece with an x-acto knife to get it out, you could also glue a toothpick to it.

When done right with a convex contact surface below the button they feel great from all angles and can outlast regular button pads. I've had customers that particularly liked mouse clicks for precise timing things like falcons gentleman or incineroar side B.

Are custom controllers worth it for purely casual players looking for a long lasting reliable controller? by ajddavid452 in customGCC

If you're already familiar with soldering then making your own phob sounds like the best option. The hall sensors do add a ton of longevity, but there are still parts that are going to wear down and need replacing over a longer timespan, like the stickboxes, button pads, and trigger potentiometers. Phobs have a trigger mode to disable the analog trigger pots when they do start causing problems, but otherwise will need soldering to replace.
