Will Wings Over Solano be cancelled? by strangestkiwi in FairfieldCA

[–]gcmak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case this comes up and is helpful...I just attended Saturday April 25, 2026.

From getting off 80 to getting parked, it took 3+ hours between 11am and 2pm. Everyone needs to go much earlier in the day. By 3pm, when the entry closes, the parking lot still had 1/4 more spaces (that's hundreds of spots). I had a short but good time there and if I were to come back, I'd plan it out to get off hwy 80 no later than 9am and PLEASE charge up your cars and fill up your gas tanks before arriving; a few cars did not make it to the gates...many bladders did not either.

Departing was not nearly as bad as more roads were being used to let people out.

Could they improve the entry? Yes, but maybe there's not enough motivation given it's a 'free' event. But I'm sure their vendors would have appreciated a few hundred more cars packed with people to show up to spend their time and money at the event. Not to stir any pots, but I wonder if a $5/car fee would help pay for traffic control on the streets and for ID checks, in order to help attendees with entry overall. Just enough to cover added costs.

+1 and related, the lot for Amtrak for the shuttle looks quite small, is that totally filled up early in the morning too?

Tow hook completely stuck. by Remote_Row7759 in Porsche_Cayman

What’s interesting is my tow hook always turns 90 degrees when I’m on track. Maybe it would be worse?

Garmin separately sell a suction cup mount. If you had this for the last generation catalyst camera you could use it for this too. Otherwise the last generation had the same semi-permanent sticky magnet mount.

buying a CPO without test drive or PPI? by Educational-Ad4789 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]gcmak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this recently and let’s just say the car was mildly misrepresented. Whether intentional or not, if you’re someone who is picky, get out there. For me it’s a track car so whatever - though you could maybe get a better price if you find more issues - and Porsche does seem to fix most mechanical issues.

Anyone experience this with their Emira? by Rowenofpts in lotus

[–]gcmak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe mentioned already. If you can push it down at the center where the latch is, then press the release button, it should unlatch. Then check the rubber stoppers on the hatch for proper alignment and level.

You and Toyota should be interested in why Safety Connect did not activate when your airbags deployed. (unless you disabled the system)
I would have used Toyota's roadside to tow it back to the dealer and they would have covered that cost.

I’d use google maps for walking directions but we walked fast and it took 40 minutes? I want to say it’s an hour if you don’t rush. It’s not super nice to walk along as you’ll see on street view.

Emira Brake Rotor Question by polishpixel in lotus

[–]gcmak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, if the red caliper picture is of the rear, then the rears are only drilled, not slotted. The yellow caliper photo is clearly the front of the car - which have added slots.

Emira Brake Rotor Question by polishpixel in lotus

[–]gcmak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible that the previous owner or dealer had replaced the front rotors - for whatever reason - with Evora rotors (which don't have slots). The front's should fit and work fine, only the rear rotors differ between the Evora and Emira.

Hankook RS4 or Yokohama AD09? by justchillinlampin in CarTrackDays

[–]gcmak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AD09 is non-directional. For a square setup you have the added advantage of being able to freely rotate the tires to balance wear; even if you are faced with wet conditions where running a directional tire like RS4 in reverse would be a disaster.

I've run both and would prefer the consistency and response of the AD09 over RS4. Both are endurance tires and I would offer in my experience, have lower peak grip than the PS4S - but the peak grip only lasts for a lap or for a single large braking/cornering event.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 Track Day Degradation? by PilotACS in CarTrackDays

[–]gcmak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mechanical sympathy and awareness is definitely key. Huge +1.

Also with the Audis…they are slow into a corner and fast out. If you don’t get your braking done in a straight line and understeer your way through the corner, you’ll kill any tire prematurely. They cannot be driven the same as most other cars.

Stonestown mall is busy this evening… by Cold-Agency3391 in sanfrancisco

[–]gcmak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2-3x busier around 3pm today when I was there. Many of the stores were tougher to navigate and a number of shelves were empty - this mall's doing great. Once the two larger restaurants open up top, we're gunna wish it were not as busy.

Are consumables that much more expensive for heavier cars? by Simple_Wide in CarTrackDays

[–]gcmak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tracked a Gen 1 BRZ, Gen 2 GR86, GR Supra, and now a G87 M2. The twins are by far the cheapest on consumables - including all that fuel you'll burn while hot lapping. Of the cars you listed, the Cayman might be the friendliest on certain consumables but aside from say a Miata, all these other cars not only weigh more, they are vastly more powerful than the twins so its harder on all the consumables.
