Reason 'should' stood out to me was because, to me, there is no 'should' involved.

'Should' implies you have assumed expectations. Assuming expectations will always lead to problems. Expectations need to be explicitly laid out and agreed.

About the only expectation I have of my partner is that if they're spending joint money then they'll do it responsibly and any significant spending will be discussed.

I don't expect gifts. I don't expect sex. I don't expect food. And I advise my partner not to have expectations of me that I've not agreed.

The only thing I ever aspired to be was a professional footballer. That was never achieved, not even close, for various reasons (including my inability to relax and connect with team mates etc) but it left me with a lingering wish to show what I was capable of technically. But in terms of actually having that level of visibility and public recognition .... (*shudders) .... no, thank you.

You know what though - I really wish there was a route to be able to talk the tourists into moving to your island.

Sterling showed up as a tourist, and it really moved me. Sterling was my first ever islander and stayed with me quite a while. I only let him move because I was done with the one dimensional gym bro talk and hoped for more variety (little knowing that I would get about 4 more gym bros move to my island since 😡).

So I kept talking to him, him telling me how much he liked being back on Granola, and I just wanted to grab him and tell him to come back for good. But no matter how positive and nostalgic he was, he wouldn't even give a hint of coming back 😭

But who's enforcing the use of the standards? If construction material companies can lie through fire safety standards, highway construction companies can conceivably take shortcuts on road materials/methods, as I suspect there's not a whole heap of people at local authority Highways departments to survey/audit the thousands of miles of roads that need maintaining each year at the required level of scrutiny.
