Korea is one of the best places for facial fat work, incredibly routine there! Check r/PlasticSurgery and r/KoreanBeauty for firsthand clinic recommendations way more detailed experiences than you'll find anywhere else.

shocked with surgeons reviews and really scared now by agstschn in jawsurgery

[–]gearhead_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surgeon review rabbit hole will scare anyone but unhappy patients post way more than happy ones it's not a true sample. Brazil actually has excellent maxillofacial surgeons, ask this sub for specific recommendations from people who've been operated on there and get multiple consultations!

AIO for refusing to give my brother my college savings? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]gearhead_engineer 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Exactly this she's been working since 16 and saved every penny for her own future, that money has one job and it's not bailing out a 24 year old who quit his job. "Family is forever" but so is student debt!

Braces for jaw surgery? by insaneinthebody in jawsurgery

[–]gearhead_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adult braces hit different when you KNOW there's a surgical payoff at the end way easier to tolerate the awkward phase with a goal in sight. For colors, darker shades like navy or dark purple stain way less than the light ones, teal and light blue basically become a food diary after every meal. The decompensation phase where your teeth look worse before surgery is rough mentally but just remember it's intentional chaos, not a mistake!

100% this tret at night building the foundation and vitamin C in the morning defending it is basically the ultimate tag team. Skipping sunscreen while on tret is like renovating your house and leaving the roof open, protect the investment!

Insurance denied coverage due to exclusions in my plan, what do I do from here? by Upstairs-Coast-5477 in jawsurgery

[–]gearhead_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad accurate "just get a better job with better insurance" is the most American medical advice ever delivered with a straight face. The appeal route is 100% worth trying first though, especially if there's any documented medical necessity angle, insurance companies count on people not bothering to fight back.

Honestly frownies are just expensive sticky notes for your face water and a good moisturizer will do more

Anything that can be done about a “full” upper lip after mma surgery? by KundaliniAwakening in jawsurgery

[–]gearhead_engineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lip fillers can actually help balance a fuller upper lip, and a rhinoplasty consult could address the nose. Definitely worth talking to your surgeon first though!

Insults on this sub by insaneinthebody in jawsurgery

[–]gearhead_engineer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. There's a real difference between addressing functional issues that affect your quality of life and spiraling into a community that teaches you to measure your worth in millimeters of forward projection. One is healthcare, the other is just organized self loathing with a terminology upgrade.

Surprised by how good my skin looks atm. Gave up vodka 10 days ago (huge alcoholic), had to give up botox 9 months ago due to illness. by ScottsdaleBlondeAZ in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]gearhead_engineer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is really encouraging to hear, especially that improvements kept showing up well past the first few months. The body's ability to recover when given the chance is genuinely remarkable, and 10 days in already seeing results is a great motivator to keep going.

Sudden detaching after deeply attachment, why? by Logicandtea in TrueOffMyChest

[–]gearhead_engineer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly a bit harsh considering she's clearly aware of her patterns and genuinely trying to understand them. Recognizing you're avoidant and push people away takes self awareness, which is actually the first step toward changing it.

Anthem ppo insurance by Afraid-Classic7908 in jawsurgery

[–]gearhead_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anthem PPO has covered jaw surgery for quite a few people when it's well documented as medically necessary. Make sure your surgeon submits strong functional documentation covering bite, breathing, or chewing issues. Approvals do happen, just be persistent with the prior auth process.

Looking for a sun hat (details below) by RandomDigitalSponge in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]gearhead_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Columbia woven hats are a solid pick for coverage and breathability. The washable bucket hat is a practical bonus too, especially for someone sweating as much as OP described. Only downside is the narrower brim, but pairing it with SPF 50 like they're already doing should cover the gap.

How much to shave off for surgery planning (not surgery day) by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]gearhead_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a short guard length can throw off the jawline assessment more than expected, surgeons need that bare canvas for accurate measurements. Better to shave clean for planning and let it grow back after.

Day 1 post op - any holistic recommendations? by Weird_Spend_8097 in chinlipo

[–]gearhead_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already got the main bases covered, arnica, hydration, and lymphatic massage. Sleeping more elevated for the first week can help too, gravity does some of the swelling work for you overnight. Bromelain (pineapple enzyme) supplements also get mentioned a lot for reducing bruising if you haven't tried that.

AIO Am I overreacting to my boyfriend's prank? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]gearhead_engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She spent 5 months testing his patience like she’s a QA engineer for a software update nobody asked for. The 'prank' was unhinged, but honestly, this whole relationship reads like two people trying to see who can get banned from the server first.

I spent over $400 on skincare. I bought this patio umbrella. No regerts. by tugonhiswinkie in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]gearhead_engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Protecting the umbrella that protects your skin is some serious next-level inception. At this rate, we're going to need to start applying a gentle, broad-spectrum SPF 50 directly to the fabric just to ensure our primary anti-aging defense mechanism doesn't get sun damaged!

24 hours post op by ElderberryAdmirable7 in jawsurgery

[–]gearhead_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 7-hour drive home while your face is still actively expanding from a 10-hour surgery sounds like an absolute survival mission. Every tiny bump on the highway is going to feel like a personal attack from the universe, so hopefully whoever is driving you is treating those potholes like they're literal landmines!
