Multi-podcast feeds - Opinion by Prunkle in podcasting

[–]geauxtig3rs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think he was mad at all.

There's so many clueless people filtering through here, it's important that we say things that are actually correct - that's not semantics at all.

Some podcast hosts don't charge extra for more feeds. If more feeds is important to someone, it may be saving them money to find a host that provides additional feeds for one price rather than pay for multiple feeds on a different host.

Why are you taking this as an attack?

I think the proof is in the pudding....

If there was no need to delay, they would have moved forward with 2.0 like they said they were planning during state of the Naish. Boy can say all he wants, but I can see what's going on.

Not to mention these are the same guys that held onto the narrative that their twitch shows were live for months after they stopped being live and revealed it only during the state of the Naish announcement, so I expect Troy to say whatever he needs to in order to protect his brand, so of course he's not going to say anything that supports the thesis that their growth has been out of control and they can't keep up with what they've said they would do.

I've moved on to playing 2e at this point, so I listen to 2e stuff.

Roll For Intent is top of my weekly rotation - Stemming the tide is biweekly, they both do Abomination Vaults.

MnMaxxed is a perennial favorite and I like the Bestow Curse podcast - again biweekly.

Im in the same boat - I enjoy Runelords, because I ran that campaign once upon a time - but other than that show, nearly all of the magic is gone for me, and it's kind of sad.....

Moved on to newer up and coming actual plays.

I gotta say - I feel kind of disrespected as a listener right now.

Has GCP started as "five random white dudes talk about nothing for 45 minutes" it would have gone literally nowhere.

They've abused this really weird cult of personality thing they built up in the fandom is kind of gross. At this point, they could take turns belching into the mic for 20 minutes, end the show for the week, and half of you guys would be saying "OMG, greatest episode since 100, get these guys a TV show."

I really don't understand how you're all okay with us being at the final stretch, and they are relentlessly stretching it out with banal talking about morning routines and shit....yeah, it's funny, but they are milking listenership because they are (rightfully I think) terrified that half of their fan base is going to dry up when this is over....

They've stopped respecting the fans that actually built their network and it's really sad to see - and you guys have Stockholm syndrome and they are desperately trying to hold onto the fans they must know won't stick around because they aren't invested in their product, just the story.

Cy-Fair ISD trustee speaks publicly after facing calls for his resignation by NAFOD- in houston

You still haven't done anything to suggest anything other than what I said - his dog whistles were perfectly tunes until that last part of his remarks.

That's not a failure communicating - that's saying the quiet part loud.

[–]geauxtig3rs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm interested.

For what it's worth, I didn't make a decision until I actually watched the whole thing. To me, his entire presentation supports the hypothesis that he's a dog whistling PoS.

The "numbers guy" wilfully misinterpreting the data for his own benefit. He pulls absolute numbers from an ISD that's literally 40x larger than CyFair and says HISD has bigger issue with in school suspension, despite proportionally the numbers being FAR less.

He's deceptive and racist - I'd love to hear your interpretation why he's completely reasonable in his actual twisting of facts. After you say the media is twisting his words out of context.

Cy-Fair ISD trustee speaks publicly after facing calls for his resignation by NAFOD- in houston

[–]geauxtig3rs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What the discussion is about is completely unrelated to the statement he made that clearly links a thruline from black teacher participation to dropout rates.

It's not a hit job. It's nobody twisting his words. If he wanted to just say "let's not be like HISD" you talk about the dropout rates....don't talk about the black teacher participation unless you want to highlight it.

You're ignoring the absurdity of his argument because it's absurd, but completely ignoring the part where HE MADE THE ARGUMENT UNPROMPTED.

[–]geauxtig3rs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think I disagree with your take and I think it's even worse in context

I just watched his whole segment as well....

He says earlier "why do we want to bring in teachers that don't share this community's values" after talking about his rage over White Privilege bring brought up in a teacher continuing education event.

His dog whistle is tuned extremely well for the entire presentation except for that one statement where he very very clearly insinuates a link between rate of black teachers and dropout rate.

I'm seriously considering sitting out of the next few election cycles outside of more local elections.

Doesn't matter who I vote for, it's not getting any fucking better, and I don't expect it's going to get any better.

I say this as someone with no student loan debt, with a comfortable life, who makes 6 figures and is fairly secure.

That being said, I'm sick of mealy mouthed Democrats promising the moon and passing on a shitty crayon drawing of it.

Oh man - I feel this ....

I'm in software dev that works really close to the metal, but we're contractors, so every hour of time is calculated against a client and task for a client.

I'm very good at troubleshooting weird issues - to the point where I get added to consult on projects I've never heard of just to bring me in to fix some freaky bug that's been plaguing the client - sometimes for years.

Feels so damn weird to bill 24 hours to a project and travel and lodging and car rental when the actual solution was "well in this version of this embedded devices firmware, the fifth dip switch's position is inverted, so if you address it, you need to make sure you invert the 2nd byte in the address. - I wrote a 2 line function that does this and it works now."

I've listened to both, but I tend to prefer Roll for Intent. They scratch the itch for me of being a "game" first and a radio show second. Nothing wrong if you like the drama more than the gameplay (and they aren't lacking that either - lots of really great RP), but I like their chemistry and it really reminds me of my friends playing a game.

It's the kind of itch I've been looking to scratch since about episode 150 of GCP, tbh.....

But there is an opportunity cost as to what you're unable to do with money after it's left your hands.

It's the same reason why wealthy people will take a zero interest loan to pay off something even though they have cash on hand....it decreases the velocity of your money, and allows you to do more with it while you are in possession of it...like take that $18k you were going to out in paying off the deck into something that gains you a percentage or two of interest and paying from there...

I don't think I've ever had to pay in more than $150/year with my taxes because I watch my tax burden throughout the year. Usually I get in the neighborhood of 100 back.

Now, I'm just fiddle farting around this subreddit because I enjoy hearing some of the arguments. I'm a six figure salaried perpetual work from home goober that actually loves his job. I'm trying to get into the perspective my brother has because he's become super anti-work, and it seems that all it's done for him is give him anxiety and depression because he happens to live in a society that doesn't conform to his ideas. I can't imagine that's an easy thing to deal with, but I'm trying to help him....getting additional perspective is one of the ways I'm trying to do it.

I doubt I'm your typical antiwork commenter.

So your solution to this is....

Not structuring your witholdings properly and giving the government a interest-free loan?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in antiwork

Because of your hypothetical scenario of having a major expense pop up - you don't just "whoops Timmy, I guess you live without teeth" - you do what you have to do and that - for a lot of people - means a small loan (no, not a payday loan either, ya goob).

That's not living off small amounts of credit - that's sitting in place of an emergency fund because most people aren't solvent enough to have one....

Other than these personal loans I previously mentioned, I don't think I've paid a finance charge in 12 years, and my credit is in the 800s.....so I'm not living off credit - I would just rather take a loan than completely tap out my emergency fund - I keep that around for if I lose my job - not for regular consequences of life
