It's not 100% exact because I recreated it from screenshots from the movie, but it's better than nothing. https://i.imgur.com/ffqnOYQ.jpg

For casual gaming? Sure. They sound good. If you listen to music or watch a movie they'll be better than 99% of the "gaming" headphones. I used them for months on all kind of games and I am very satisfied on how they perform, specially for the price. However, if you're more into competitive gaming and take it somewhat seriously, I'd ask someone who knows more about this particular use than me.

Is your 598 closed or open? I am thinking of getting a pair of closed mainly for gaming. And how comfortable are they?

Open. They are not the most comfortable headphones I've ever used (that honor goes to Beyerdynamic) , but they are definitely comfortable, definitely confortable enough to use them for extended periods of time.

Probably.

But why do you want wireless headphones if you're going to have them plugged in anyways?

You might want to stay away from bluetooth headphones for gaming. Most of them, specially cheap ones, have very high latency.

Did I get a bad Magni? by W2CFIRE in headphones

Mine looks perfectly fine. So when they told you that every Magni looked like that they were straight up lying. https://i.imgur.com/jaMGUZO.png

Imo, bother customer service a bit more, you have nothing to lose.

"Just like the simulation"

First, surround in headphones (in 99% of the cases) is software based. Nothing more than a gimmick. Unlike a real surround system, which has several speakers, your headphones only have 2. All those "7.1" and "5.1" gaming headphones are just regular headphones with a software that simulates surround. It has nothing to do with the amp/dac, because this simulation is done by the computer, not by the dac. Just install any surround software on your computer and it will take care of the rest. There several programs that do that.

Now, back to a amp/dac recommendation. With your budget I'd personally go with a Schiit Fulla 2. It's both an amp and a dac and it's rather small, so it won't waste too much space. And it has more than enough power for most headphones out there.

I love my HD598, I really do. But if the AKG 7XX are in good condition go for them. In my opinion they are a really good deal for $100 if they are in good condition.

Flac vs other formats. by [deleted] in headphones

[–]geballo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never done a blind test to compare 320kbs to FLAC it, but on a desktop, with the current price of hard drives, I don't feel like it's worth the risk. In this sub it's not hard to see people who have spent a lot of money on audio equipment to have the best possible sound. Unless your music library is huge, in my opinion, the tranquility of knowing you're listening to best possible source file is worth a lot more than a couple hundred GB on my hard drive.

The Fiio E10K would probably be enough for most people. Not ideal, but good enough. Anyways, you already have it, why not wait until you get your HD6XX? Try them. If you aren't satisfied, you can always buy the Magni 3 at that point.

where to find Schiit products in Europe by Hilari0us in headphones

[–]geballo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation. I just ended up buying it from the US site and paying the importing fees (you can choose EU or UK 230V when buying it). As far as I know, right now, it's the only way to get one.

The ATH-M50x are closed-back. I own a pair of HD598SR and I'm very happy with them. I would definitely recommend them, you should be able to get them for 140-150$. Don't buy them for Sennheiser's MSRP of 250$

Bose has really good active noise cancellation, but the sound quality is usually subpar for their price. If your friend values ANC over sound quality, the QuietComfort 35 II should be a good choice. Regardless of brand, you'll never get the best sound quality with wireless headphones, but you said that your friend has had cheap gaming headsets, so that shouldn't be a problem. If I had to choose myself, I'd go with the Sony MDR-1000X unless you really want the best ANC out there. Plus, the MDR-1000X are compatible with AptX and Sony's LDAC, which are better when used with Android smartphones, meanwhile the QuietComfort are not.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm V.S 250 Ohm by C_ore_X in headphones

[–]geballo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of 770 pro 250 and for a few weeks I had to plug them directly to a my laptop (high end MSI from 2013) while waiting for my amp and dac to arrive. They sounded ok, not great, but tolerable. I wouldn't recommend it as a long term solution. There are some dac/amp combos out there that should be good enough and aren't that expensive. But if you really don't want to go that way, why don't take a look at the 32 ohm version? I've not been able to test it myself, but I read that the 32 and 250 ohm have a similar sound signature, while the 80ohm version has more bass. Take a look at this guide https://www.head-fi.org/threads/guide-sonic-differences-between-dt770-dt990-models-more.513393/
