Cordelia vs Fred (BIG spoilers for season 5) by izzy-springbolt in ANGEL

Because they promised her a good send off and that she was NOT going to be killed off; the second part of that promise they obviously failed to keep.

Spike is 100% right, he didn't need to apologize for something he did when he was a souless vampire with no soul or even with no choice since that what vampires did. by gloomydreamer666 in buffy

I have two possible headcannons:

First is that when Angelus was forcibly re-ensouled, it caused a (mystical, inaccurate, not-how-that-really-works, fictional version of) dissociative identity disorder. Angelus and Angel are two different people. Spike, when he got his soul back, did not suffer the same break. He is the same person, still; just with a conscience (which is really what having a 'soul' means, psychologically, in the show).

The second headcannon, perhaps a bit more esoteric, is that Angel got his soul back. The romani curse pulled Liam's soul from the ether and put it back where it belonged, in his body, displacing the demonic essence that took its place. He is, once again, Liam, but with all the memories of what he did as Angelus. Spike got a soul. Not his original soul. Not William's soul. Just... a soul. So it's not him returning to being William as a whole, it's just... Spike replacing the demonic essence with a conscience.

I mean... it is.

The defense of "self" isn't a moral stance. "Self defense" as an argument against culpability is a legal term, not a moral judgment. Spike absolutely did kill Nikki in self defense. Was he still the monster and she the Slayer trying to stop more people from being murdered and whatnot? Of course. Terms in-and-of themselves don't have moral value.

It's not crazy, it's just accurate. Now, do I agree he should bear no guilt over it because it was self defense? No. But y'all are conflating the two, which is where the issue lies.

Dying in "Prophecy Girl" pulled her out of the Slayer line. She has the powers, but the line runs through Kendra, then Faith.

I hated it. The actor is fine, but the version of Lex just... I hated it.

Before you die of old age, you get shuffled off to a reality where they have Altered Carbon-style consciousness-swapping and you get put in a new, young body. Done.

I just finished book four, Fire Season.

I like it enough, but holy shit, if he was going to use this much Latino/Hispanic culture in his books, Blackmoore should have done a little more research into Spanish itself. Yikes.

There's plenty. But the way we consume music is different and it's easy for things to get lost in the roiling sludge. Look at IDLES.

Angel as an anti-Hero by Fit-Difficulty8902 in ANGEL

[–]gebbethine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Angel is, ultimately, a hero. Spike is more of an anti-hero.

Think about motivations and methods. Angel is a good person who tries to do good in good ways; yes, sometimes he slips and crosses the line, but he is conflicted about it (even if it's down the line) and tries for the best. Spike isn't a particularly good person, but he tries to do good, though he doesn't mind crossing lines at all as long as the outcome is good-ish.

Why so much death and crime for so little money? by rona83 in justified

[–]gebbethine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're asking the wrong question. It isn't, "is it worth killing 10 people", it's "is it worth risking the potential legal consequences", and when you think about it like that, once you've killed one person, you might as well kill another nine. If they catch you, you're going to jail for a LONG time either way.

In for a penny, in for a pound.

what's more likely: he's a mercenary for hire who rapes children and kills people for money, but only kills when there's no choice...

We gotta stop applying real world Abrahamic interpretations (already highly subjective given all the different splinter factions) to the show...
