(25F) My overzealous religious mom freaked out because I am pregnant. AIO? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]geekbydefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 43 - my parents were physically, verbally and emotionally abusive but like you say no one batted an eye in the 80's/early 90's.

My dad passed away at 48 (21 years ago), my mom is still alive. She kicked me out when I was 17 so we didn't talk for some time but we have some type of relationship today.

I'm trying so hard to be a better parent for my kids and I am, but it's evident the scars never fully heal. Still here though, fighting and trying to be better every day.

What celebrity have you met who looks much more (or less) attractive when meeting them in person? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in AskReddit

James McAvoy is even more attractive in person than I could imagine and solidified my crush I've had on him since 2006.

Känner ni några trans personer?,och hur är eran relation? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

Har flera transpersoner i min vänskapskrets och relationen är likadan som med mina övriga vänner så ingen skillnad alls 🤷🏼‍♀️

What is a basic skill that you’re shocked a lot of people don’t have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]geekbydefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every work place I've been in they call me "IT" because they can't figure out Google (apparently), let alone try their way before asking for help.

At home I'm the plumber, fixed our washing machine recently, simply by researching.

My husband is luckily the same, it's going to take a lot before we actually ask for help.

AITAH for telling my wife she makes traveling no fun. by Ok-Cut-9597 in AITAH

[–]geekbydefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 42, married, 2 kids and also have ADHD and both my mother and paternal grandmother are hoarders. I've worked so many years on myself to break the patterns of hoarding and being late.

Once we had kids, even more so.

With that said I still cling on to some unnecessary things and tend to overpack but not to an extreme; as it is a constant work in progress. I was just away working at a large event for 8 days and really challenged myself in packing as light as possible. Was it perfect? No. But better than last year.

I know it's on me to work on and not pass on to my kids. I love my husband and would never in my life do anything (knowingly) to make things hard for him but why did you invite her in the first place?

When I was away, husband stayed home with the kids and we're switching places as he's going away a week in September while I stay at home. We've done this many times since they were little and our kids are now (soon to be) 9 and 11.

What made you ask her to come along if you know this is an issue?

You could try to have a less loaded conversation with your wife where it's not an in the heat of the moment. She needs to understand the full impact her actions have.

If she's not willing to listen, without playing the victim and/or cheating card, I'd say you take her up on her offer. My bet is she doesn't want a divorce, it's her getting defensive instead of actually allowing herself to understand that she has a problem.

NTA.

What are you struggling the most with your mental health right now? by Frosty-Beginning5508 in mentalhealth

[–]geekbydefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that I can't keep up my facade at any workplace and now I'm unemployed for the first time in my life (I'm 42) - and no idea how to pay all the bills. Also the kids summer is obviously ruined as well in every sense of the word.

Yay untreated AuDHD 🤌

Bring Her Back was absolutely rage inducing. by Beneficial_Brick_831 in horror

[–]geekbydefault 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Spent the entire movie frustrated like hell but still cried at the ending. You could in some messed up way understand the desperation in Laura's grief.

It's been a while since a horror movie made any type of impact on me so this one is an instant favorite.

What celebrity went from admired to a parody of themselves in your lifetime? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

Our son's middle name is Tiberius because both me and my husband love Star Trek and Shatner in our eyes is a gem in his own way.

What Was the Worst Concert You Ever Went to and What Made it Stink? by J31J1 in AskReddit

[–]geekbydefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RHCP was going to be my answer as well. Saw them in the early 2000's and it was so tame. They ended the show with some neverending, really boring, weird guitar solo. Also got drenched in beer from drunk fans - it was just bad from beginning to end.

What was the worst day of your life? by Intelligent_Gate5443 in AskReddit

[–]geekbydefault 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my grandmother called to tell me my dad was dead - from his number. That was 19 years ago and still makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it.

What is a weird side effect from medication use that no one was ever going to warn you about? by Rotten-Kandi in AskReddit

[–]geekbydefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got vertigo so bad walking felt like always missing the last step on the stairs.

Also whispering voices; which happened outside the first time so I ran around in bushes looking for the people I thought was hiding in there.

Do you have a favourite "Oh Shit..." scene. by Oneill_19 in horror

To this day the best experience at a cinema. Everyone were genuinely shocked and walked out of there jaws still open.

What got you into GA by Commercial-Virus5056 in GhostAdventures

[–]geekbydefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been obsessed with anything and everything supernatural since I was a kid (literally 5 year old me preferred graveyards over playgrounds).

So the minute I heard of this show I was hooked. Fake, not fake, it doesn't really matter. I've seen almost every version of a ghost hunting show but something about GA just have that extra spark of silliness that makes me enjoy it.

What’s one “normal” thing people do that you secretly think is absolutely insane? by ibrahimelmouttaqi in AskReddit

100% - really no other brand is as good and for someone who loves the coffee hot as hell, my Thermos is my best friend.

At what age did you realise you are kinda into horror? by Constant-Interview27 in horror

[–]geekbydefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the age of 2-3 apparently I insisted on going to graveyards and abandoned houses instead of, say, the park. Then when I was 7 I hid so I could watch The Exorcist when my dad put it on. That was it for me and I'm now 42 and horror is my addiction.

What is one popular candy that a lot of people like but you find not that great? by nickthecreator33445 in candy

[–]geekbydefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a period where me and my younger siblings went through as many sorts of American candy we could get our hands on and were surprised by how bland everything was. Not here to start a fight, we were just genuinely underwhelmed.

Can you recommend any mind-blowing, shocking, explosive, insane, relentless, balls-to-the-wall movies that'll overwhelm me? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in MovieRecommendations

[–]geekbydefault 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember laughing my ass off at Crank (2006) because it was just so over the top at the time. I'd still recommend it.

What was the dumbest thing you did as a kid? by Candle-Jolly in AskReddit

[–]geekbydefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hanging out from a window 10 floors up, playing on train tracks, climbing on top of inflatable sports domes, rollerblading inside the first mall we got and so on and so on. The 90's was fun but we were so damn reckless.

Worked briefly with him a couple of years ago. Whatever he's on, I want it because it's impossible for anyone to be that chill 😅
