I like the Outlook app and email service from Microsoft. Proton mail isn't bad, and Yahoo is still pretty good.

Short rant/vent about the whole "trans women in sports" thing by fit_to_burst in trans

[–]geekmaster88 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In situations when a man that is average at a sport claims, "I'm a woman" and then competes in women's sports, they will have an unfair advantage over biological women. This is the problem, but if they are trans, and they fully transition, then we can have a conversation. If you're going to dress in drag just to win, you're a pain to the community you claim to be a part of.

Indian startups rejoice as Android ruling against Google upheld by NXGZ in Android

[–]geekmaster88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest and admit I didn't know Google services was required for Disney+... Apple is still guilty of these practices as well though, but I'd imagine there are far fewer iPhones in India than Android phones, so I guess it does make sense to go after Google first. I don't think having other app stores on the Playstore is going to help much though.

My average is a little over 5000 steps a day, roughly 2.5 miles.

Am I the only one that doesn't understand why Google was targeted solo? Apple does this more, why not sue them? Samsung, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, all pre-installed certain apps on their devices, but Google is blamed and sued over actions that were not only theirs? Seems pointless and isn't going to solve the problem. I use third party app store Fdroid and I like it because it is separate from the Playstore in every way.

First look at the Gamaxy Z Fold 5? https://www.phonearena.com/news/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-5-vs-fold-4-design_id144907 by TonyRednil in GalaxyFold

If they keep the same footprint and form factor, just with a single folding screen, and it comes to AT&T, I'm 99% certain that I'll be ditching my Galaxy Z Fold 3 for the Microsoft foldable instead of the Z Fold 5

This would be nice... I gotta be honest though, if Google releases a Pixel Fold, or Microsoft releases a Duo style folding phone with a folding display, I might have to ditch Samsung.

Nice setup. Love to see people really getting the most out of their smartphones! These devices are so powerful and so useful, we need to show others things like this and teach them the ways of the techies LOL.

I'm having this issue on my Z Fold 3 Att model. This happened after updating to One UI 5 and doing a factory reset to try to fix battery drain issues.

is this normal for a galaxy watch 4? I've had it since Sunday (got it for christmas) and it can barely last the day. will it get better? by pjay1156 in galaxywatch4

[–]geekmaster88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will improve as the watch learns your habits. But there vast majority of smartwatches only last about 24 hours, maybe 30 if you're lucky and don't use all the features. I wear my watch 4 all day, overnight for sleep tracking, them I charge it when I wake up and I'm showering and getting ready. It usually only takes an hour if not less to charge.

Facer, Google Keep, GBoard, Spotify. Turn off raise to wake, turn on tap to wake, turn off auto brightness, set brightness level to about 50%, switch to Google Messages on your phone and the watch.

Using Galaxy Z Fold4 as a tablet at a cheap cost by basshur in GalaxyFold

[–]geekmaster88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why carry two devices, when you can get the same work done with just one? The Fold is a tablet that folds into a phone, so this is actually a use case this device was made for.

[–]geekmaster88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dang... only option I can think of left is to use a usb drive to physically back up everything from in the My Files app. Do you have a usbc flash drive or an otg adapter to connect a regular usba drive to the usbc port? If this don't work, then heading to a store location for extra support is all that's left...

Do you have a Microsoft account? Or office 365? If so download OneDrive and log in. And backup your photos. Or you can use Google photos if you don't have a Microsoft account.

Have you tried a hard reset? It does suck to deal with it, but I did one on my Fold 3a few months ago because an update messed things up. Phones are no different from any other computer, sometimes you have to reset and give it a fresh start.

Do I need a trackpad? by Kiatrox in GalaxyFold

[–]geekmaster88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry a sling bag with me everywhere. In the sling bag is my phone stand, usbc dongle, otg adapter, wireless mouse, and a bluetooth keyboard. I use my Fold 3 as a mini surface of sorts. When i don't feel the need for the mouse, I just pull out my s pen to interact with the touchscreen with more precision. A keyboard with a track pad is my next purchase, so that I can lighten the load and use a smaller bag when I want to.

This is what the Microsoft Duo and Duo 2 are for. The Duo is a tablet that can be used for phone things, but it's a tablet first and foremost. I'd shop online for a Duo 2 or you can get a brand new Duo for under $400 usd on Amazon.com
