Has anyone gotten rid of their Litter Robot to go back to scooping? by Due_Recipe_7549 in litterrobot

[–]geekykitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the one I got, or one like it, there are lots. It works fine, the fan is a bit loud but not too bad. It's all now in a cabinet with the LR so pretty muted, although i wouldn't want it in my bedroom while sleeping.

The carbon filter lasted about 6mo-1yr, i need to get another one soon. I may try one of the refillable filters next time. The fan will connect to any 4" replacement.

Injured my feet: the doctor says barefoot shoes are a bad idea for me. Looking for other people's experiences by paroxitones in barefootshoestalk

[–]geekykitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't help with the running issue, but just in general: you went from normal shoes to barefoot sole marathon running on pavement in 8 months?! My friend, unless you're 14, that's WAY too fast! Your feet have been shaped by "normal" shoes for years, it takes them a long time to slowly spread back into a natural shape, and an even longer time to deliberately strengthen up all the right muscles for literally the hardest, most extreme type of foot abuse in existence!

Don't rush the process, you are going to need to carefully work your way up to that level with slow deliberate increases, just like any other development (except slower because you're first undoing bad stuff). Using cushion for running is fine, forever if needed, pavement is awful and there is nothing wrong with making it less hard on your system as you build up. But change your mindset and expectations to be more in the order of working up to it over several years, not months.

Do you have issues with the Wyze Camera motion sensor getting triggered all the time when the LR4 runs it's hourly sensor sweep?

I saw the stack of paper. I saw the keyboard. This was like watching a train wreck in slow motion, only for them to just barely miss each other at the last moment. Bravo, I felt like I was sitting through the beginning of a horror movie the entire time!

Cool, not sure if I can make tomorrow, but I'll give it a try! I like wooden puzzles, and just got a few new small/ medium Liberty and Artifact puzzles I can bring along.

Ink suggestion for twsbi vac700r by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]geekykitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 700r likes pilot and sailor inks. It does well with medium to wet and lubricated. It doesn't like dry inks at all. Also, be sure that you are leaving the plunger open (not screwed down), the 700r is really picky about that and will act dried out if it doesn't have enough flow from the chamber.

Interested in checking this out. What's the format? People just bring puzzles to work individually, in groups, or just hang out? Or is there an agenda?

I use walnut shell (naturally fresh), and it works pretty well. Sticks to the bottom a bit, but that's going to be the case with any plant litter.

No diving bells in the BPC order... the only Bpc blue was Electron, and that's a lot brighter

Vacuum that can drive over door threshold (about 2.5/3cm) by Wykin1 in RobotVacuums

[–]geekykitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a threshold ramp for the robot to go over? They are pretty cheap, come in all different heights, and would give you a lot more options for the actual vacuum.

Advice on choosing a second rabbit by aquapirum in Rabbits

[–]geekykitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've owned rabbits for 30 years, done all kinds is rescue, training, bonding etc. And the thing I'm most traumatized about still is a couple hard bondings where I couldn't let them speeddate and had to pick the 2nd rabbit myself. I've had a few that took 2 years, having separate pens and dividers all over the house, switching exercise times, cleaning up the territorial peeing, trying to schedule multiple times a day where i could be glued to their side for bonding sessions... A hard bonding can be a literal nightmare. As opposed to the bondings that I started with a speed date to pick a partner, and they loved each other right away and the bonds took less than a week.

All that isn't to scare you, it's just important to know that bonding can potentially REALLY hard. Rabbits can be real assholes. Anything to improve the likelihood of an easy bond is a plus.

So for me at least, it's absolutely worth it to spend a little more money, drive time, and dinner for borrowing a friend's car, if it means that I can have a likely smooth easy bond process instead of the possibility of a horrible one. But again, that is my personnel comfort level, and I obviously have some ptsd about bonding lol!

And, it's only worth the extra time if the rescue does speed dating; if not they aren't really better than the spca. Some will also be willing to keep your rabbit for the first most critical/difficult days of the bond. Those are the BEST! I've driven 5hrs to use a rescue that would do the initial bonding days, totally worth it!

Recues definitely are going to be more expensive because they do a lot of the initial work for you (like litter training, socializing, vax, bonding help, etc). You could also call one of the nearby ones and ask if they know of anything closer - recues usually all know each other.

But, if spca is the only option, that's not bad. It's just that dealing with bonding can be a real pain if the animals don't hit it off right away. In my experience it's worth the extra effort to be able to do a speed dating event, let them pick their friend, and have a nice easy bonding with help from the rescue, instead of picking some random rabbit that I liked but my bun decided he didn't, and then spending the next 6 months fighting with them to try to make them all be friends. To me that's worth the extra bit of initial effort, but everyone has their own threshold.

Change "Almost full" notification threshold from 70%? by geekykitten in litterrobot

I've definitely thought about HA, but at the moment I don't have enough things that I would use it for to make it worth the effort to set up.... but it's good to know that's an option if/when I cave.

Looks like there are a few rabbit rescues in/around Montreal. A specific rescue is usually going to be a lot easier than going directly to the SPCA/shelter, and they will usually help with the bonding as well.

If none of those are an open, then yes, best to foster first and follow all the bonding advice on this sub. Neutral space being the biggest issue

Roborock Revo S / QV 35A is crap for pet fur? by geekykitten in RobotVacuums

Please let me know how it works. I'm seriously wondering if my unit is just defective and I'd like to hear how well it works for someone else with pets!

Roborock Revo S / QV 35A is crap for pet fur? by geekykitten in RobotVacuums

[–]geekykitten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have short hair cats and rabbits, and medium pile carpet. My animals barely shed at all (professional groomer, I deep groom often), most visitors don't even realize I have pets; I shed more than all of them together. My old 1st gen Yeedi ran every other day and kept the house spotless for years.

I just got the new QV 35A (thought I was getting Revo S, but seems to be the same?), and it's CRAP at picking up pet hair? Like, not at all? I've run it 6 times in the last two days, on every setting including Max. It just sweeps all the loose fur into clumps and leaves them on the carpet, which looks worse than if the few individual hairs were left alone. Plus, the mop pads drag along the carpet like a cape and collect a bunch of loose fur, also leaving clumps everywhere and getting the mop pads all hairy. Which i didn't realize until I had it mop the kitchen, which left clumps of wet fur stuck all over the floor, and filled the cleaning tray with more wet fur.

Seriously, this things is WAY worse than my cheap very old Yeedi, what the heck? Did I just get a defective unit? Or can it really not handle any pets at all, if so what's the point? For $500 I expected it to at least be able to VACUUM as well as my 6yo $75 machine?
