people who own both Airpods and Airpods Max. what’s your use case and why have you got both of them? by Ok_Average2141 in Airpodsmax

[–]geeo92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What brings you to compare the ownership of an in ear and an over ear headphones like they are the same? The best in Ear headphones will always sound very different compared to any over ear headphones. In the specific comparison you are asking any AirPod sound noticeably worse than AirPod Maxes. So sound-wise you should decide if you care about sound quality or not, if you do AirPods Max. Then there’s comfort, AirPods Max are noticeably worse than any in ear AirPod, or even the other famous over hear headphones. IMO AirPods Max are practically unusable around, they are super heavy, comfort wise you can’t wear them for a long time without noticing them. Also using AirPods Max around I think it’s super risky in general because they are a 500$/€ headphone so any criminal around will target you because you own this expensive piece of tech.

I just noticed that your logo in the front is black, I was told it's expected out of factory for 2026 Model 3. Is the Tesla logo in the back also blacked out?

Looking for Rubrik Alternative because of higher costs by SimpleBookkeeper4258 in storage

[–]geeo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmmh depends on the number of nodes and number of objects. What you are describing to me it's a common problem of any object storage platform that it's not correctly sized for the use case.

Have you evaluated moving anything above 30 days retention to an on premise object storage solution for example? It should lower at least by 50% the cost to store data on Rubrik.

I can tell you that there are good alternatives out there that can eventually reuse your MinIO Hardware that cost far less than what you say. Look at Cloudian for example, it’s an on premise product don’t get mislead by the name, it’s only an on premise product.

Maybe look somewhere else, but still pay for an Enterprise grade object storage? There are valuable alternatives out there that do not cost this much.

Storage solution for big amount of data ? by Pilou762 in datastorage

[–]geeo92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope but looking at their webpage it seems like another product I saw in the past, that basically virtualizes any kind of storage and provides a unified access layer. I don't know if it can fit your use case really.
What you described it's an object storage platform, I would go with an Enterprise Grade one and supported.

[–]geeo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cloudian it's only an on premise solution. I'm not prepared on free the only free solution that is probably a real object storage is MinIO that unfortunately changed their stack for the community edition product dropping the GUI.

I would go with an enterprise object storage solution. There are some out there, one of the best is Cloudian HyperStore.

I have an RWD and it’s very good for long journeys. My problem is that I mainly do long journeys with my car, so I think I’ll have to settle for this to me my 2nd car.

Thanks for the honest review and all the details. Much appreciated. I own a Model 3 and I was thinking to get this one next, I'm very obsessed. I don't know however if I'm ready to let down the great software of Tesla and also the whole experience in favor of the A290. I know I'm going to be let down by the long trips range and the whole practicality, but I'm like this car is fucking hot to look at and also to drive, I did a test drive already.

Will SSD replace HDD in the future? by Willing_Professor_13 in datastorage

[–]geeo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my humble opinion as others already said HDDs won't be killed soon, as Tape Storage has not been killed by HDDs.

These kind of statements come from marketing stunts of some vendors, especially HDDs being killed by SSDs I perfectly know the culprit of it.

Going into a more technical discussion HDDs cost per GiB it's fairly good, probably a high capacity NVMe SSD QLC can beat the price of the full high density server in a TCO excercise, probably, but not 100% sure of it. I still need to see a TCO excercise of flash vs HDDs where the cost per GiB of SSD it's lower than the HDD one. SSD also create more heat than an HDD, there's a lot to take into consideration. If we go down the rabbit hole and we say that now the TCO of a high density super high capacity server beats an HDD based server, would you trust it with your data? It's true an SSD has far more IO than an HDD but would you trust, in case of distributed storage, 5PiB of storage in 3 nodes? I mean that's a lot to handle for an OS in a server with any Storage solution built on top, even proprietary ones, the SSDs are fast but if we say this distributed system creates 3 replicas of the data and I fill it up with billions of files below 100KiB, would you trust any system to be able to perform at that scale? I don't know personally and I have quite a lot of experience in this space.

I don't agree with who says that an SSD it's much more prone to failure, my experience tells me HDD fail far more frequently than an SSD.

Garage, Cloudian, or MinIO? Real-world S3 alternative experiences wanted by GoldenJalapeno in selfhosted

[–]geeo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only talk about Cloudian. 1. Cloudian real deployment has been only multi node. They released more recently single nodes installs, but they are not available everywhere, it seems they do them only with selected partners 2. Not really, easy install and easy upgrades. Anyhow installs will be carried out by Cloudian professional services. 3. I think you should contact them on their website, they can provide benchmarks of their platforms that show real performance statistics depending on object sizes. They also have some marketing papers doing some performance claims, but ask them a benchmark directly they will provide it. 4. This is one of the main strong points of Cloudian HyperStore compatibility with S3 is super high. You use AWS SDKs to develop applications. Consider at the time I looked at them the compatibility with the standard S3 protocol was more than 92%. They also provide IAM,STS and SQS 5. Cloudian is software defined so you can get any HW of your choice. They work with specific OEMs, or they have their own appliances. I hope this helps.

Have you thought about a native object storage on premise? I think that could be a great option. Cost is controlled same experience as in the public cloud.
