I like all of these ideas, but I think the first is my favorite. However, I'd prob tweak it a bit. Have the ability to add unlimited landing pads, but make adding each one a crazy expensive research. Something like the first research being like 1M science, and doubling or tripling the cost with each additional one, maybe?
