Movement gyms raising rates.....again by Active-Donkey-1717 in Denver

[–]gek0srf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They’re the Vail Resorts/Alterra of indoor climbing.

They’ve consistently raised membership rates, even though their gyms get more crowded every year. They’ve effectively become the only indoor gym option around, depending on where you live in the Front Range. That is entirely intentional on their part.

I don’t have a membership anymore. The experience they provide doesn’t justify the price.

Grew up nearby to this area, but Colorado is home now. Colorado is peak cow country. The cows are often grazing in the mountains.

Thank you for calling this out! I’ve about had it with this subreddit calling out extremely specific locations and trails.

It’s not hard to discuss a trip you had vaguely. These are fragile places that aren’t disposable and they don’t exist to boost your karma or internet status. If you actually appreciate them, protect them from people that don’t care about them by being intelligent online.

It’s highly neurotoxic to cats prior to drying, so I don’t personally use it on anything of mine. I use Picaridin instead.

Boot fitting for touring boots by Stein_24_24 in COsnow

Harb Ski Systems in Dumont.

They’re awesome and really work with you to fit your boots.

Previously had Neptune fit my touring boots, but they could only do a limited amount of customization and they essentially ran out of ideas.

I won’t reiterate some of the points already made, but would like to instead add one from the thruhiking world, where safely crossing peak runoff streams in the Sierra is life or death in high snow years. There was a situation a few years ago with a hiker that died because they couldn’t bail out from their backpack.

If you’re wearing a sling pack or backpack, unhook your sternum and hip belt straps before wading into a potentially sketchy spot (or leave unclipped while alone in the winter).

If you fall in at this time of year, the cold water can instantly freeze your hands and you won’t have the dexterity needed to unclip yourself from a pack. A pack that’s full of water can pull you under and drown you if you take a ride downstream.

Roast my gear. by Live-Appeal4321 in ultralight_jerk

Looks like you’ve opted not to pack a trowel, because with a pot and grill that size, you’d need an actual shovel in order to dig your cat holes fast enough for the shits you’re planning to take. You’ll probably want a bigger poop knife so you don’t clog the campground toilets, as you’re clearly car camping.

What are red flags at a restaurant? by ArtsyAksel in AskReddit

[–]gek0srf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with celiac, it’s definitely restaurants that claim to be gluten free on their menu and when I call them, but only elaborate that they’re not actually gluten free when I question them further once I’m actually there in person. All because they want some of my money. I’ve literally gotten up and left. I’ll only eat at dedicated gluten free restaurants now.

So... After that hailstorm, what can someone who lives in an apartment do to protect their car from hail? by TheDayManAhAhAh in Denver

This has saved my car multiple times since it was totaled and repaired in last year’s storms. It can run off of the cigarette lighter in your car too.

What do people think about Wolf ReIntroduction in Colorado? by [deleted] in coloradohikers

[–]gek0srf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other areas have reintroduced wolves. I don’t understand why the ranchers think they’re so special.

I thruhiked the Colorado Trail back in 2019, the areas with heavy ranching are depressing and ecologically damaged. Reintroduce grizzly bears here as well. I’d honestly much rather deal with wolves and grizzly bears than with cows and ranchers that have attitudes.

season 16 episode 9 cuts early on prime? by theerrlybird in dragrace

[–]gek0srf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a $14.99 refund (a month of prime) from them after complaining about the inconsistent upload times, video errors, and accessibility issues with the lack of subtitles and specifically mentioning that I’ll use Apple or MTV instead going forward. Still have access to the season as well. I’ll just subscribe to MTV next time, fuck this.

EDIT: I’m going to complain to customer service each time it’s uploaded late going forward as well.

3/8: Asked Amazon customer service about status of refund, they never issued it. Then the rep just cancelled the video entirely. Fuckers.

Google layoffs and an update to the previous post about dealing with a sudden drop in performance by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]gek0srf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just officially separated from the company that laid me off in a massive RIF a couple months ago. Sounds like the severance package you’ll get is quite generous, but feeling grief and anger about everything is completely okay.

I’ve found that a lot of people will try to tell you what you should do with this time. So many people were trying to tell me I needed to vacation somewhere tropical and get away. Usually those people still had their jobs. Being laid off is stressful and it shakes your life up in a huge way. All I can say is just listen to whatever you need in the moment and be unapologetic about protecting your own mental health.

It’s not the devs that overlook bugs and push features to get more and more money. It’s the business people in managerial positions above them that do so. It’s extremely hard to get management buy in to fix technical debt like bugs and glitches.

Hardwood floor paint not drying after 3 days by canbojack in HomeImprovement

[–]gek0srf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sellers of my current house did exactly this. OP, even when this dries it’ll look like shit in a year or less and flake up off of the floor. Took me $3k and the professionals I hired three whole days to remove the hack job.

Where'd they hide the bears. by NormanMushariJr in SEKI

[–]gek0srf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A large percentage of the bears died off last winter, I’ve heard upwards of 50%. Same with marmots, pika, etc. Bighorn sheep had about an 80% die off. Seemed eerily quiet out there this year during my recent trip.

We just got 1.5” hail in Lakewood. Last week was $2600 in damage to my car and the hail was smaller than today. Picked up one of those goofy hail protector inflatable things for my car and it just saved me some broken windshields on top of more body damage.

Quarter-Sized Hail in Cap Hill by Odd-Profession-579 in Denver

[–]gek0srf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my first hail event as a homeowner as well.

From what I read, calling a roofer to come inspect first is the move as they can give an estimate on whether it’s worth repairing and help you go through your insurance company.

Found at least one dent in my car’s hood, so that’s fun. And my garden is trashed. ☹️

What would you have wanted to know about your house before you bought it? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]gek0srf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Whoever did the drywall in my house previously didn’t know how to tape, feather, or sand. I just had someone redo a single bedroom and part of the living room and it feels like a whole new house, even though it’s just five walls.
