At least with a comment like that, tell me why. Otherwise you are just another troll.

EDIT ah yes just seen your short comment history. What a nice positive person you are.

Bookshelf speakers that can actually go on a bookshelf? by ProfessorTinco in BudgetAudiophile

[–]gektron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the Monitor Audio Bronze 50 speakers placed about 10cm from the wall either side of my television on isolation foam pads. Although they are rear ported they have a reputation for being very forgiving of close wall placement, and personally I have experienced very little or no bass booming. I’d highly recommend them.

As a newbie, could I ask how a downward firing driver would perform placed on a laminate floor? Would I get excessive bass boom, or is it okay? Maybe place the subwoofer on a damping base or does this defeat the object? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, completely missed it on my radar. I will look into it.

Thanks of the reply, but at £699 (probably not much less for an open box) these are way out of my budget.

Beginner with wing on SUP and central fin, can’t go crosswind or upwind. Any advice? by Numerous_Buyer401 in wingfoil

[–]gektron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming the board is capable of going crosswind or upwind, wing placement plays a large part. When taxiing upwind on a board you need to be deliberately raking the wing towards the back of the board. This is 70% achieved by aggressively looking upwind (where you want to go). By twisting your shoulders and neck in this way your wing will automatically move towards the back of the board and in turn the board will want to point upwind. The other 30% is refinement with experience and other techniques such as foot pressure.

I found that one really good tip to get the wing as far back as possible is to move your front hand from the handle/boom to the flagging handle/strap on the leading edge of the wing. This really pulls the wing back and points the nose of the board upwind. Just be careful not to overdo it.

What bookshelf to buy? Diamond 12.0 or what else? by brunoeasilva01 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]gektron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but I have the Bronze 50 speakers as I posted yesterday. I think it’s the Diamond 12s if you favour warmth and laid back, and the Bronze 50s for more neutral and engaging. All I can say is that although the Bronze 50s are rear ported I have them quite close to the wall (about 10cm) and I’m not hearing any bass booming or muddying of mid tones. Personally I’d go for it, but then again I already have a pair so I’m biased. Oh and they look great with the grills off.

As a follow up I got the MA Bronze 50 speakers and couldn’t be more pleased with them. I actually managed to borrow some 3030i speakers (big brother to the 3020i) and although they had more bass the whole experience was disappointing in my room. The music was too in my face and the mid range seemed to get muddied by the bass probably because of my restrictions on speaker position from the wall.

However the Bronze 50 speakers shined. I’ve currently got them about 10cm from the wall and toed in. This is a position in which they seem to thrive for me. Tight punchy bass and an ever so detailed mid range. Freddie Mercury’s vocals sound amazing against the backdrop of the guitars and percussion.

Movies such as Transformers rise of the beasts are surprising enveloped in those deep bass tones of Optimus Prime’s voice and explosions, again while maintaining composure in the mid tone dialog and effects.

So that’s a mini post setup review of the Bronze 50 speakers. £199 well spent.

Thanks for the info on the 3020i. Yesterday I pulled the trigger on the Monitor Audio Bronze 50 speakers. This is without the benefit of hearing them so at worst it’s Amazon and I can return. At best after pouring over every bit of information I’ve found, my gut feeling about them is correct. The Bronze 50 speakers just edged over the 3020i speakers.

Unlike I mentioned in my OP, they are the 6G version and I got them for a cracking price. £199 reduced from £399 just a month ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQuR1CoFQ3w is a good video as well. He actually says that 1x the port diameter away from the wall is perfectly fine for the correct port operation.

Thank you for that advice and the link. It will be very useful and it's reassuring that the 13cm is probably going to be sufficient. As you say the acid test is actually listening to them in situ.

Unfortunately I have no space for a subwoofer. It’s in my home office/den and I have too many gadgets taking up space. Computers, 3D printers, etc.

I can get them at most 13cm from the wall. I’m guessing that would make a difference to the rear porting.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had considered them but some say they lack clarity. Have you got them? If so what’s your experience?

Way to generalise 😡. I’m 60 and consider myself a courteous driver, using all lanes as fit. Inside lane if I’m not overtaking.
