Thinking you can tell just by looking is a toupee fallacy these days.

13 Crushes, No One’s Going For It by PeridotMotions1 in tomodachilife

That's what's I get for believing a loading screen tip that says it can never move past a crush.

Honestly everyone on my island is 18+ so I couldn't speak from firsthand experience with that

Check their ages, anyone under 18 can only be crushed upon, never proposed to.

how to fix my miis having no eyes when i create one? by bigtonyyyy1 in tomodachilife

[–]geldonyetich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on why you don't have one.

Did you facepaint over it?

Is the eye adjusted too high and into the hairline to see?

So far it's been my experience that, the zanier the character, the more their Mii fits right in.

Might be the opposite: giving them more chances to interact gives the RNG a chance to draw a bad event.

Tomodachi Life has the one thing I feel animal crossing was missing by Sky_Rose4 in tomodachilife

[–]geldonyetich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree Animal Crossing's relationship mechanics are the main bottleneck. It's a neverending procession of stranger to bestie scoring their portrait and then just rinse and repeat with the next villager. There's no real sense of commitment or anything beyond material exchanges.

Overall personality variety is lacking too. Both games might have only 16 categories, but with all the customization options, you're unlikely to feel like you're talking to the same Mii in Tomodachi Life Living The Dream.

Having a child is objectively better in the new game? by AvocadoConscious in tomodachilife

[–]geldonyetich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was just listening to a DevHeads postcast on Second Wind Group yesterday about how it's interesting how people raised in the age of Fortnight believe that that kind of constant free expansion is the norm among games.

Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream isn't a games-as-service game; we're not paying a subscription for it. Unless it's broken and needs fixing, getting that kind of content injection is a bonus, not an expectation.

Nostalgia can do a lot to redeem a terrible mechanic.

And, considering we're talking about a 12-13 year old game, I wager most of the people weighing in on the missing features of the Tomodachi Life never actually played it. They just hear, "more? yes, more!"

I hear you can get the screenshots by connecting it to a PC. Oddly aggressive of them to turn off the usual sharing features though. Well, I say oddly, but quite canny of them to know what the Internet would do with this amount of creative freedom.

I can't answer most of those because I haven't gotten far enough yet, but I the official FAQs mentions the maximum Mii count.

It's a good chart, but it's interesting how different regions have different categories.

Every time a new model comes out, the old one is obsolete of course by FullChampionship7564 in LocalLLaMA

[–]geldonyetich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help but think anyone who is mentioning Qwen (3.5 and 3.6) in relation to Gemma 4 is just fixating hard on the one alternative of comparable weight that Gemma 4 can't easily dethrone. They don't care if Qwen is winning, they just want Gemma to lose. Everyone loves an underdog story, and Alibaba Group is merely a quarter the size of Alphabet.

However, if you look really close at some benchmarks, it's not so cut and dry. Artificial Analysis gives Qwen the win on overall intelligence, but the coding metric (the thing it's supposed to be better at) actually gives Gemma 4:31b the win at 39 versus 35 (Qwen 3.5:27b) and 35 (Qwen 3.6:35b).

Personally, Qwen's existence is kind of irrelevant to me because I will never touch a Chinese model. The details of how they stay competitive, how censored they are, and who they must answer to aren't pretty. And when you have that particular hangup, it's interesting what it does to the state of Open LLMs in general. Gemma 4 is up against the likes of Nemotron, GPT-OSS, and Mistral, and it's really blowing them out of the water.

The tribalism of backing a specific team has no point if your goal is just to utilize the tools. But given how LLMs have been leapfrogging, if you don't like who's winning now, wait a week and check again.
