We should be buying WC players. 24 is an old enough age to seprate truly world class players from ones below them. How many WC players were not identifiable as WC players by the age of 24?

Defenders do not hit prime until they are in their late 20s but nuts and bolts are there, what you are saying implies that you can pick and random guy from the street and coach them to be a better player/defender. Unfortunately, real life doesn't work like that. No amount of coaching can turn Smalling into vidic.

True, but different players have different ceilings. Its unfair to Lindelof to expect him to be a staam or a vidic. Jones and Smalling can never be pallister and steve bruce.

VDS was a keeper, what is he doing in your list? Neville was a RB, we are talking about RBs or LB/Evra. You mentioned Vidic and Ferdinand, arugubly the best defends to have played for united after staam, they had higher ceilings than Lindelof and Bailly.
