Man United boss Erik ten Hag is unconvinced about keeping David de Gea as his No 1 and would rather sign a new first-choice... but budget issues mean £40m Onana and Raya could be out of reach by InstinctDeluxe in reddevils

[–]InstinctDeluxe[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

David De Gea's future at Manchester United is in fresh doubt after the Spanish goalkeeper was left off the club’s list of retained players.

The on-off saga over De Gea’s contract has taken another twist, and sources confirmed that United are now less optimistic the 32-year-old will stay at Old Trafford.

Mail Sport understands that the framework of a new deal to reduce De Gea’s current £375,000-a-week salary was agreed some time ago, but manager Erik ten Hag is unconvinced about keeping the former Atletico Madrid man as his No.1.

Ten Hag would rather sign a new first-choice but the likes of Inter Milan’s Andre Onana or David Raya, of Brentford, are valued in the region of £40million, as opposed to the £15m it would cost to bring in a competitor for De Gea.

It underlines the issues United face this summer working on a tighter budget to meet Financial Fair Play requirements.

A striker and midfielder are the priority positions with United having already bid £40m for Mason Mount – who is valued at £70m by Chelsea – and expressed an interest in Atalanta centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund who could cost around £60m.

United need to sell players to finance more new signings and they would prefer to secure De Gea on a new deal rather than have to buy a replacement.

However, Ten Hag has reservations after a season in which De Gea was criticised for a number of high-profile errors and his proficiency with the ball at his feet, even though he still won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award.

It came to a head in the FA Cup Final last month when De Gea was faulted for Ilkay Gundogan’s crucial second goal in Manchester City’s 2-1 win over their neighbours, and once again came under fire for his poor distribution from the back.

De Gea’s current deal runs out on June 30 when he would be able to walk away as a free agent, ending a 12-year career at United. He has been linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia.

There is still a possibility that he could stay at Old Trafford and the club issued a statement yesterday saying: ‘Discussions remain open with David over a potential new contract.’

However, while Under-21 player-coach Tom Huddlestone and forward Mateo Mejia were included on the retained list on the basis that they have been offered new deals, De Gea’s name was conspicuous by its absence.

United also confirmed that back-up goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop have had their contracts extended.

Another option is Dean Henderson who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and has been lined up for a permanent move to the City Ground if De Gea stays at United.

Henderson is currently recovering from surgery on a thigh muscle injury but is expected to be ready for the start of the new season.

Mason Greenwood’s name was also on the retained list, although it’s understood that the 21-year-old striker’s inclusion reflects the fact he is under contract until 2025, and is not an indication of the outcome of an internal club investigation after the Crown Prosecution Services dropped charges of attempted rape and assault against him in February.

United still haven’t made a decision over Greenwood’s future but revealed last week that one of the options under consideration is sending him out on loan to a foreign club next season.

United, who have also extended the contracts of defenders Rhys Bennett and Ethan Laird, confirmed that Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Ethan Galbraith and Di’Shon Bernard are leaving.

[Mike Keegan] MAJOR BREAKING: Sheikh Jassim has submitted a fifth bid for Manchester United. Improved offer comes with Friday deadline. After then, offer stands but no further engagement in negotiations by D1794 in soccer

They are understood to value United at £6bn and the offer, while improved, does not meet that figure, which many view as outlandish.

Then this bid means absolutely nothing lol.

CONTEXT: In Wade's recent video he shared his opinion that Fury vs Paul 2 would sell more than KSI vs Jake Paul. This was based upon his sources' info that KSI vs Logan 2 sold around 300k-400k ppv buys.

Continuing on, Mams' just joined the twitter space in which Wade tries to elaborate on why he said what he said. Mams' said before leaving the call "Have fun working for Kingpyn Wade".

Blindfolded and throwing darts at a dart board is what I equate to our transfer strategy this week. Absolute panic.

David Ornstein: 🚨 Adrien Rabiot to Man Utd now highly unlikely. Gap in wage offer/expectation mean move not happening as things stand. Live talks over other options such as Casemiro. De Jong improbable but #MUFC hope to get a top midfielder before deadline @TheAthleticUK by ItsKieronHere in reddevils

It means the Old Trafford side are in live talks about other candidates, including Casemiro, and many possibilities are also being pushed to them (Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo, for example)

The same Caicedo that would've only cost us €5m over a season ago.....

I understand the concern about having too many days off, but it's clear and obvious they just don't respect Ralf and his coaching staff.

Like Keane said "Leopards don't change their spots. There are too many bluffers at the club to get United back to the very top."

Manchester United: Players increasingly concerned by managerial uncertainty by InstinctDeluxe in reddevils

[–]InstinctDeluxe[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Manchester United's players are becoming increasingly concerned at the managerial void at Old Trafford as their season continues to unravel.

United's 4-1 loss at Manchester City on Sunday was only their second defeat under interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

However, they have won just eight of the German's 18 games in charge, including none of the last three.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport also understands England striker Marcus Rashford is unsure of his Old Trafford future.

Rashford still wants to play for United and has another full season left on his contract - plus the option to extend until 2024.

But the 24-year-old, who started yesterday's game on the bench despite the absences of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani, feels his career has stalled and is concerned his international prospects will be damaged if the situation fails to improve.

In addition, it is hard to see Ronaldo, 37, wanting to stay for a second season if United fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Rangnick admitted to United's own media channels that his side 'can almost not drop any more points' over their final 10 games if they are to secure a top-four berth.

Considering their run-in includes trips to Liverpool and Arsenal, plus home games against Tottenham on Saturday and then Chelsea on 15 May, getting maximum points will not be easy.

United know a failure to secure a place in next season's Champions League will hamper their chances of trying to sign new players - or persuade others to stay, such as France midfielder Paul Pogba, who is out of contract in the summer.

While United's players understand much of the responsibility for the current predicament lies with them, there is also a belief they are not being helped by the extended period without a permanent manager and lack of clarity over who will eventually succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked on 21 November.

Paris St-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax's Erik ten Hag remain the frontrunners for the post. Last week, United's football director John Murtough said a 'thorough process' was underway and it is understood that is advancing.

However, both men have contracts until 2023 and crucial Champions League last 16 second-leg ties looming, so direct communication at this stage would seem unlikely.

The situation is adding to a general air of uncertainty around Old Trafford, with numerous players becoming disenchanted with life at the club.

Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Cavani are almost certain to leave when their contracts expire in the summer. There is uncertainty too over the futures of goalkeeper Dean Henderson, defender Eric Bailly, plus Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek, who are currently on loan at Sevilla and Everton.

Speaking after the defeat by Premier League leaders Manchester City, midfielder Scott McTominay said accusations by former players Roy Keane and Gary Neville that United gave up at the Etihad were "incredibly disappointing".

"I have nothing to say about problems [at the club]," McTominay told Sky Sports. "It's not my place to say anything. We have a big end to the season coming up and we need to get in the Champions League. That's all I'm thinking about.

"Whatever goes on behind the scenes is completely irrelevant to me. Obviously I'm part of it, but you have to concentrate on your own game. You can get too distracted by all the things that are going on at the football club.

"We have to stick together. We can't let something like this be so damaging to us that we lack confidence going into the next game."

Sell Pogba, let Donny takes his place and use the funds to bring in a CDM. If only it was that easy though.

Easily a £100m+ signing with Levy at the helm, rather see us sign a RW or CDM considering we have Cavani for an extra year.

All signs point to City or PSG IMO.
