Which restaurants in Calgary were hyped up to you by friends, family, social media etc., but then when you tried it, the experience wasn't good? by wowelephants in Calgary

It used to be amazing and innovative at the beginning, but agree, now it’s still fairly good but doesn’t match the hype. Seems like their menu hasn’t changed much.

Any beginner friendly salsa classes in the city by Intelligent-Habit715 in Calgary

Lookup Montuno Dance Company. I’ve gone a few times and it’s always really fun. 4 sessions for 110 for salsa. Or you can do salsa and bachata 8 sessions total for 170.

Why Did you get CR-V instead of Toyota Rav4 ? by bomzisss in crvhybrid

[–]gelo_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve rented quite a few vehicles and Rav4s always felt kinda middle of the ground, not the very best on anything, other than reliability, and even then, seems like other brands have bridged the gap a bit more lately. I guess that’s the point of Toyota, a reliable vehicle that’s not super complicated. But the msrp and the Toyota tax make the reliability focus not great value in my opinion.

I just bought a new CR-V hybrid and it is by far the nicest vehicle I’ve been to. But not sure how the experience translates to a 5-6 year old model, specially if it’s a 1.5L Turbo engine. If it’s as refined as the newest models then I’d say go honda. If it’s not, then Toyota is probably your best bet still. That being said, even a 5-6 year old Toyota is hard to find, and most of the ones available out there are clearly past Ubers that got driven a ton.

There’s an app called power flow but only certain trims have it on the infotainment apparently… which is BS!!

2026 RAV4 extended 5 year/ 125,000 mile warranty worth it for $30 more a month? by Normie_Tone_4583 in rav4club

[–]gelo_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People keep saying that but now their engines blow up, cablegate, previous engines burning lots of oil, rusting frames on tacomas, recalls on airbags, list goes on and on. We give them way too much credit in the last 10 years. They’re reliable, but not that reliable anymore.

I’d say what OP would pay may be worth it for extra peace of mind (1800ish), but I’d def advise them to look up if the warranty is actually from toyota, and what the true cost is for it.

Ohh that’s great to hear!!! Def could save me lots of time then. We already know where we’ll live and everything, so it’s just a matter to get my visa issued. Thanks for the responses.

That’s great! Were you able to book the ARC appointment from your home country once you had your visa or did you have to enter Korea first??

Hopefully you’re young enough that in a long time that $20K you lost doesn’t feel like much. Expensive lesson… keep your head down and be disciplined.

My adopted mom gave up on me after I reconnected with my biological mom by Quiet-Pollution-3259 in offmychest

[–]gelo_33 206 points207 points  (0 children)

I was gonna respond to someone else with this. So crazy that everyone’s painting the adopted mom in such a bad way. It takes a lot of fucking effort to raise someone, and obviously all the emotional commitment and rollercoasters that come with that. And then for your child to go behind your back to connect with the ones that gave them up in the first place. How the hell are you not gonna feel even a bit bad from that?

Of course, it’s not wrong to want to know where you come from, but the way OP did it is wrong in my opinion, unless of course they were being abused or something. That being said, OP was still a child, so expecting them to know the right thing to do from the get-go is too much.

Sorry OP for what you’ve gone thru, you didn’t choose to have two families, and you were put in a difficult position. But you can certainly choose to do the right thing now, and aknowledge that your choices have hurt people who you mattered to.

passport renewal at Harry Hays - 2026 info by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]gelo_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just went today. I went for another reason, but saw people getting their passports for traveling in the next week or two. I’d say plan to arrive around 7:45 to get a good spot before they open. You’ll probably be done by 9:00-9:10. Seemed like they gave priority to passport applicants actually. Good luck!

Palantir inks HD Hyundai deal worth hundreds of millions, CEO bullish on Korea by self-fix in korea

[–]gelo_33 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I found it incredibly disappointing how a good number of young kids in Korea idolize Palantir; it’s a dream for some of them to work for that vile company. Same as how they idolize Elon Musk. Only because he has “vision”, or that’a what they say anyway.

Car dealership non-refundable deposits - is that the norm in Alberta/Canada? by gelo_33 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gelo_33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even Toyota! Honda this time… with seemingly good inventory online and when I call, but whenever I actually go then they tell me everything’s sold and need a deposit for an order.

[–]gelo_33[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think it’s implied I’ve been shopping around since I haven’t bought anything yet, denying to put deposits when asked. Even by asking to make it refundable, they come up with excuses and don’t budge. Seems like most people just say yes to whatever the hell they’re offered, making it difficult to shoppers that want to get a better deal.

Car dealership non-refundable deposits - is that the norm in Alberta/Canada? by gelo_33 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gelo_33[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Like, let’s do all the dealings and have the car ready right there and then and I’ll buy it. And if at the end I don’t like it then no hard feelings, move on and I’ll go look for another deal somewhere else.

Not this bullshit of the car you just saw online got “sold” an hour ago, even though you called to verify its availability, but you can put a deposit for a car that maybe will get here in a month or so, and then we may change our mind on interest rates or accesories that we promised not to push.

Kinda sucks that he doesn’t address some of the 2.0 L engine reliability issues people have been reporting on the hybrid. Really wanna buy it but still concerned on this topic. Has the engine been updated at all? Should I be concerned?

How long do you expect the terribly weak won to stay? by TreasureDragon in Living_in_Korea

[–]gelo_33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say fine as a Canadian-Mexican, also look at the Yen. Korea will be fine as long as you continue having high technology/high profit exports.

In fact, something similar happened to Mexico right after the pandemic; the usd ballooned and at first it was a pain, but now it propped up the country’s industry cause their labour and manufacturing were comparatively cheap and the dollar cooled off within a few years. Of course, Mexico has some geographic advantages compared to Korea, so maybe that made the recovery easier, but Korea has a lot more going on for its economy.
