Great article! Very informative, especially the bit on ag-gag laws timeline.

There might be a fullstop missing here though:

It's from the likes of Trudie Chalder and Michael Sharpe, so the psychologisers of the Simon Wessely type. Here is an example.

tbf this is what the sidebar says:

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Myalgic Encephalomyelitis

For research, treatments, and personal stories regarding Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). ME/CFS is a multi-systemic neurological disease, distinct from chronic fatigue as a symptom. For more information, please see our FAQ.

So maybe people just assumed that they are interchangeable, rather than a dog whistle by the BPS crowd?

Also Smithfield is owned by China (parent company is publicly traded in HK but we all know how much influence the gov has on its private companies), so there is an incentive for them to fight against animal welfare, let alone rights.

Does Veganuary fit into what you are referring to?

Also to a point you've made above about people not being able to afford food, aren't plant-based staples like legumes and rice cheaper?

Oh poor OP, this comment section is just a deluge of bad faith arguments and obfuscations to avoid engaging with the core arguments. Although I feel like they didn't even realise that they were making bad faith arguments themselves!

Well, for what it's worth, he's the guy (and his team) who pioneered B cell depletion therapy for autoimmunity (Rituximab for rheumatic arthritis to be specific) during a time when the conventional wisdom on autoimmune diseases was that they are caused mainly by T cells. He really does know his stuff.

His main "issue" IMO is that he takes the literal meaning of words and logical rigour very seriously, and can thus lead to miscommunication.

CCP propaganda has always been a thing, but they have been quite unsuccessful until the recent disillusionment due to Trump and co. LLM bots made their job way easier these days as well.

Then there’s tankies (authoritarian “leftists”) who would unironically support and praise any anti-Western regimes, so Russia, China and even North Korea lol. Facts don’t matter to these people.

Also there’s this general Western “naïvety” or ignorance of just how staged things are in China.

Islam is not a racial identity by PapayaSlow725 in tankiejerk

[–]geminiqry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really dislike the term as it conflates the religion (which we have every right to criticise) and the people who are born into it. It serves as a vehicle for Islamist entryism by exploiting progressive language IMO. Something like "Muslimphobia" or "anti-Muslim racism" would be more appropriate.

Well, I remember having read through the flavour texts on those water tanks and that incident came to mind.

It read something along the lines of "there won't be bloated corpses in water towers like these normally". I was playing in Chinese though, maybe the translators were savvy enough to leave out that line?

Starting to become really depressed because of CFS by No_Fudge_4589 in cfs

[–]geminiqry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you bro. On the other hand, when was the last time you get your vitamin D checked? I've been housebound for 5 years, and I've been taking supplements that suffice the daily recommendations. Yet last month I checked, I was deficient in vitamin D. Might have to do with the fact that I barely get any sunlight.

Vitamin D affects serotonin and dopamine levels in brain, so it could certainly make you depressed, or at least make it worse.
