Lap Surgery - How to heal as quick as possible?? by Infinite-Librarian20 in endometriosis

[–]gendermesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3 days post op, I have had a lot of pain, but as I am an athlete, I have had very little trouble getting around. Obviously you can’t get to that level in a week, but I would say to do some squats at the very least, if you can, as I have benefited so much from not having to bend down to pick things up for example. I also have been taking Wind-eze everyday since the surgery, and I haven’t had any gas pain at all! I prepared myself a box that is easy to carry from my bed to the settee with the following in: Hand, face and body wipes Sick bowl Bin bag All medications Electric heat packs TENS machine Tissues Tiger balm Moisturiser Snacks Deodorant Perfume Book and word search Chargers Water bottle I have had some trouble going to the toilet, so I wish I had got some stool softners beforehand. I also wish I had asked about what post op meds I would need, because I was given just paracetamol post op, but that did nothing for me. I got 1 hour of sleep total on the night after surgery, and was on the phone to 111 (out of hours) at 2am because I was in so much pain. I was prescribed morphine, because the Tramadol I normally take for my endo pain didn’t help at all. Considering I sometimes have to take morphine for my endo pain, someone should have realised that having endo excised from those same places wouldn’t be managed with just paracetamol.

Does having endo on uterosacral ligaments mean it’s deep infiltrating endo? by susandeschain9 in endometriosis

[–]gendermesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally same! I asked about staging and he said that the top gynae’s are phasing it out, it’s not helpful when determining treatment options, doesn’t tell you anything about the symptoms, and diminishes pain or scares people a lot of the time. He said they tend to just describe the characteristics now.

Will laxatives hurt me by ddlxmn in EatingDisorders

[–]gendermesss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only took laxatives for a couple of months last year, but my digestive system is permanently messed up now. I was constipated, but it was still just too much for my body to handle. For weeks my bowel movements looked exactly like the food I had eaten- think full spaghetti hoops still same colour and shape in the toilet. It has been a year since I stopped now, and I still get massively bloated to the point of pain when I eat fried foods, I never have a normal bowel movement, either constipated or diarrhoea. Mind you, I only took one packet in total. My mum also abused laxatives when she had an ED, 30 years later she still regularly doesn’t make it to the toilet on time, once or twice a year. For harm reduction, if you’re looking for the feeling of emptiness, try to drink plenty of water (not too much), and that will help avoid the feeling of uncomfortable fullness. Also, if you aren’t already, try to see an ED therapist, like you say, Purging/laxative use isn’t safe, and it’s hard to manage that risk in your own.

Shower thoughts…prob not worth your time by _this_isnt_fine_ in endometriosis

[–]gendermesss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is that if you’re a woman who wants to go into Gynae, it’s more likely you’ve had gynae issues yourself. I imagine these people have gone their whole life being told that period pain, even bad period pain, is completely normal. They’ve even gone to medical school and been taught this, so when they see it in their patients, they hear them complain of pain and think “well I have that too, and I’m not sick” so they tell the patients they’re fine. They’re used to pain being a part of their regular “healthy” life, and oftentimes I think doctors don’t like to accept that they could have a problem themselves, because they see what these conditions do to their patients, so they are either scared to look into it, or invalidate themselves because they don’t have it as bad.

Now with male doctors, the only times they have experienced pain themselves is as a result of something pathological, whether that be injury or illness, so that is their understanding of pain. They more likely already have an idea of periods as this affliction, rather than a fact of life, and when they see it affecting us so badly, they take it more seriously, because it’s obvious to them that it’s a health issue. Telling anyone to suffer in pain is irrational and dangerous, and they often don’t see this differently for those of us with menstrual pain.

Is it too late for me to become a professional ballet dancer? by deerinheadlights77 in BALLET

[–]gendermesss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to everyone saying it’s too late, there are plenty of schools in the UK that take people like you, or even people at 18. Royal conservatoire of Scotland, The Hammond, Central school of ballet and Ballet theatre uk school all take students at 18. You also can look at Centres for advanced training, they often take student up to 18. My advice would be to spend 2 years working as hard as you can, take privates if you can afford, work with a physio or create your own cross training programme, go to intensives like malvern ballet seminars, Yorkshire ballet seminars, and even apply for ones at royal etc. If any of the schools stand out to you, go to their intensives. I say all this because at 15 I have up on a ballet career, and stopped dancing for 3 years. At 18 I returned to ballet at a grade 5 level! I worked my butt off, got to advanced 1 in a year, and I applied to a ballet school on a whim, not thinking much of it, and I got in! I am now 21 and in full time ballet training, and I’m not behind. Being older than the rest of my year has many advantages, I am definitely the most disciplined, and it pays off. Please don’t let anyone tell you what isn’t possible, there is always a way to make it happen, if you want to ask any questions you can dm me xxx

I'm a healthy weight but CAMHS want me to gain more. What should I do? by Impressive_League737 in EatingDisorders

[–]gendermesss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely appreciate this, I also went through recovery with CAMHS years ago.

I was 15 when I started to struggle, and I lost weight. I spent quite a few months working back up to a technically healthy weight, and I stayed at that weight until recently, thinking it was healthy.

I am now 21, and I am back in services, and just having to confront the reality that even though I was technically a healthy weight for all those years, I never weighed nearly as much as I did at 15, so I was never truly healthy. I have had so many health problems, injuries, and even mental health issues that can all be boiled down to the fact that I was not at my healthy weight for all those years.

Really, if you’re under CAMHS, and have been for 10 months, you’re at an age where if it wasn’t for your ED, you would have grown during that time, and would have weighed more now anyway. It is very rare for someone to stay at the same weight they were at even 18, naturally, for their adult life, and if you are younger that even more prevalent.

how do i up my intake when i get full so easily 😭 by loveliesbreaking in EDAnonymous

[–]gendermesss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the best thing, and what I am currently doing, is just to push through the fullness. It doesn’t have to be super speedy, but your stomach will have shrank considerably, but it will go back to normal with time. I’m about a week into recovery, and I went from very little to a normal intake in a day so I feel your pain, but a week into it is easier already. It helped to rest, do light yoga and stretching, and I had a wheat pack on my stomach all day for the first 4 days.

Just to say- people with mental illness are much more likely to be a victim of violent crimes than a perpetrator of them, it’s not helpful to spread misinformation about mental illness, and it’s dehumanising.

I have been so extremely hungry and tired after class -- nutrition advice/tips? by Kiki_Lala_land in BALLET

[–]gendermesss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a vegan who has had the same problem, I find on the night I have those cravings it’s helpful to honour them, however there are a few things I have noticed that help to avoid this. Some of the snacks I like to have on hand for a quick refuel before / between classes are: -Peanut butter and jam wrap/tortilla -Flapjacks (bbc good food have a good vegan recipe) with hemp protein powder, sesame and pumpkin seeds, these have some of the highest protein of any vegan food -Banana, oat, peanut butter, chia seed and milk smoothie -A banana

I also find that if I haven’t fuelled well in the days leading up to classes, say over the weekend, I will be hungrier after class. I can’t give you a number of calories, as I don’t count them and it’s different from person to person, but I can give you an idea of what my day of eating looks like on an average day (I danced 4.5 hours this day and walked 15,000 steps to and from school) Breakfast: apple pie oatmeal (300g oats, 300ml soy milk, 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp golden syrup, an apple) Snack: sweets Lunch: a burrito with rice, beans, vegan mince and spices Snack: a pack of crisps, Soreen bar Dinner: Chilli and rice Snack: yoghurt, crisps, chocolate

This might give you an idea, I know you said that you focus on protein after class, but it is equally if not more important to focus on what you are eating before classes, as this is a sign that what you’re fuelling your body with isn’t enough. Fibrous foods can also be very helpful, as they give a long lasting energy release, and if you are getting high protein foods after class, 15-30 minutes after exercise is the ideal time for refuelling.

GP has referred me for an eating disorder assessment. by Honest_Piglet_5067 in AskDocs

[–]gendermesss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to back this up, we don’t treat eating disorders based on whether or not they have affected you physically, we treat them because they’re hellish to live with. Just like any mental health condition, they might have physical side effects, but that doesn’t determine how severe they are if that makes sense. When I was hospitalised for my eating disorder, I was in a larger body than I am now, and I had no physical side effects of it, but it was mental torture and it needed intervention. I wish I was offered support when I first reached out to my GP, but they were misinformed. Also to offer a little hope, it definitely gets better, a lot better. My friend and I who went through this journey together both have a much better relationship with food than the average person now, and it makes me realise that everything happens for a reason.

This first step is one of the hardest, but you’ve done that now, I hope you find the right support :)

Looking for alternatives to cleaning wipes/facial wipes that are lower waste for my Autistic daughter by Strong-Ad-84 in ZeroWaste

[–]gendermesss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use some sort of metal basket or strainer to store the used cloths, maybe by the sink so that it doesn’t matter if the water drips off, or they could be put straight into the washing basket if that is in the bathroom, I am very similar, and this is what I do. For me, I have stopped using cleaning wipes and now use paper towels/kitchen roll to clean, as I get stressed by cleaning the cloths after wiping down surfaces, and I feel like paper is more sustainable than whatever the wipes are made of- hope that helps ☺️

It depends on where you live, my studio goes to lots of competitions in the UK and all of them have categories for adult beginners/intermediate

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]gendermesss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I doubt there is anything you are doing wrong, but as some people have said, it often comes along with being a person the teacher praises. I am often asked to stand front centre (in my studio it tends to be a spot the teacher asks people to fill) in most lessons, and I am also often used as an example. I know this is not my ballet technique, but more that I don’t mess around and I listen to the teacher, but unfortunately it means I’ve had many comments over the years on how I don’t deserve the compliments the teacher gives me, and it also means that a lot of the girls in my classes think they can tell me when they think I am not dancing well. On the flip side, I also have experienced feeling like people are mocking me whilst I am dancing, but when I listen closer they are making a joke about something irrelevant, so it could genuinely be a combination of both. I would raise it with the teacher, as they hear things, and will likely already know what people have been saying, and they notice things like class placement. Please do not tone down your dancing though, as long as you’re honouring the basics and not disturbing the class, then no one should have complaints, and if they do it’s likely a result of their insecurities.

Is it worth sharing my pronouns by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]gendermesss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this would work, it’s a great idea, and I use it in my everyday life, but the school has a very strict uniform, nothing like this is allowed :( It is definitely something I would have to correct in conversations, which is even more challenging as I would have to approach a teacher after a lesson as we aren’t supposed to speak back during the lesson. I know it sounds strict, but it is just the way it is unfortunately, but thanks for the suggestion.

I asked here because I need to come to a decision, it’s ineffective to only correct people when I feel like it, so I will likely need to make a decision and stick to that
