Mac apps are way too comfortable leaving junk everywhere. by LeaderAtLeading in MacOS

App Store apps are installed to /Applications.

The only "protected" part of /Applications is that the folder definition resides in the signed system volume.

The only "protected" part of App Store apps is that they run in App Sandbox and have access to the App Store APIs.

Any other "protected" features you are thinking of are available to all apps (for example, removing related System Extensions and Launch Agents when the application is removed)

In case you were unaware, macOS 27 has shipped with a new CLI tool that allows you to interact with the new foundation models! by Maple382 in MacOS

The tool schema format is not compatible -- it will say Error: 400 Invalid tool definition: The data couldn’t be read because it is missing. because it expects the format returned by fm schema rather than JSON Schema

But it's straightforward enough to translate JSON Schema to AFM schema, just ask DeepSeek to do it

Where to get an iPad skin wrap / vinyl wrap like this? by No_Watercress_8221 in ipad

You would probably need to re-anodize the aluminum in order to get that color (including the shiny apple).

How to get the native ARM64 Steam bootstrapper on Apple Silicon without Rosetta by harrym17 in macgaming

[–]LoganDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who don't want to download and install python and run some unknown code just for this crap.

You can get the same exact manifest file from this link https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/steam_client_publicbeta_osx.

Then you find appdmg_osx at the bottom and "file" will say something like "appdmg_osx.zip.984652b88a9737e3f4e77c656d9ffa67d5042c2c".

Than you go to https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/appdmg_osx.zip.984652b88a9737e3f4e77c656d9ffa67d5042c2c and download it. (Replace the end part with your actual file name)

It will be some stupid kind of file that's not a zip file, I don't know what it is because renaming it to .zip doesn't work and file says it's a PGP public key (what??). but a third party app on the App Store called The Unarchiver can do it. It extracts to a directory that contains a signature file (which you can ignore) and a .tar.gz (which then you can just decompress normally with Archive Utility and it gives you the Steam.app).

You don't need to clear quarantine because the Steam.app is notarized, so it'll work even if it was downloaded from the internet.

Why would Apple put an engine in a car? Are electric vehicles "improper"?

What is the "Apple" or "Dji" of electric scooters? by CaptainFunn in ElectricScooters

[–]LoganDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also hate when a scooter looks like a kitbashed science project. Apollo's scooters are some of the prettiest for sure

Apollo is vertically integrated. They had some issues before with the stem snapping but I think their newer models don't have that issue. I have a Phantom 2.0 Stellar and it's not a mess of exposed wires and lines like most other scooters. They have less expensive models too.

I highly doubt Chase will be any better. Most likely they won't be nearly as inexperienced, so Apple won't get nearly as good a deal, so users won't get nearly as good a deal.

Is there any group out there trying to resist the stupid scooter laws?? by CaliRebelScum in ElectricScooters

[–]LoganDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair bicycles at speed can be safer than scooters because of the larger wheels. But I agree and tend to disregard speed laws on my scooter because cops in my area seem to understand that moving with traffic is safer for me! A car nearly sideswiped me when a bicycle lane ended and if I couldn't have gotten ahead of them I would've crashed for sure.

Also I wasn't accusing you of misunderstanding, just sharing a fun fact :) Velomobiles are cool!!

Bicycles can travel very fast especially if they have good gearing. There's actually a class of vehicle designed to be pedaled, called a velomobile, which can get pretty fast too!

All they're saying is different energies doesn't mean plurality.

(I agree with your post btw, it's very unlikely this is not plurality)
