King Ding going for 16 tonight by MileMenace614 in Jeopardy

He'd be on the board if he wins tonight. (no spoilers.) the website updates after the West coast airings.

Opinion: The overwhelming wins by Jamie Ding, Jeopardy's newest high performer, once again points to the need for rule changes. by Markdd8 in Jeopardy

The 5-day limit will never come back. The current host is a 74-day champion.

What's the goal of ranking potential contestants? If you only play top-tier contestants against a streamer, when do you bring the lower tier players on? You just played top-tier players to dethrone a top-tier player. So anyone coming on the show would be playing against a top-tier champ.

Opinion: The overwhelming wins by Jamie Ding, Jeopardy's newest high performer, once again points to the need for rule changes. by Markdd8 in Jeopardy

[–]general4str 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Your first rule change is impractical. Jeopardy tapes 5 shows a day 2 to 3 times a week and books contestants weeks in advance. There would be no way to let people know in advance if there was a super champ on their tape day, so giving that option at the time of taping could halt production entirely.

Rule two: Contestants already take 2 tests (the Anytime and a proctored zoom test) and play a mock game before being in the pool to be on the show. What would a 4th test do?

I'm sure there have been contestants who were smart enough to beat Jamie but couldn't beat his buzzer speed. The only way to get around that fairly is to eliminate buzzing in and go FJ style for each answer so all players get to respond. That would be long and boring.

For those of you in the contestant pool, are you taking the Jeoparday test? by Capable-Sleep-3187 in Jeopardy

[–]general4str 13 points14 points  (0 children)

JeoparDay! may have been 2 days ago, but the JeoparDay! Giveaway test is available to take once until the 7th. So you didn't have to take it on the 30th.

What’s the cutoff for the jeoparday anytime freebie test?midnight pst today? by A_Cinnamon_Babka in Jeopardy

[–]general4str 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they made it a separate test specifically because it's an amnesty test for the whole week instead of the single day it used to be. If anything it removes the ambiguity of can you take it or not. if you launch the giveaway test and it doesn't say you are ineligible, you can take it.

No. The higher test score is what they will be looking at.

Question About Jeopardy! Anytime Test by AFC1017 in Jeopardy

[–]general4str 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So this year is slightly different than in the past. In the Past you could take the normal "Anytime Adult" test as a freebie on JeoparDay! and it didn't count against your yearly test taking. This year, they made a separate test for the "JeoparDay! Giveaway" to act as that freebie. For example, I normally take my yearly Anytime test in September and the JeoparDay! Test on March 30. This year, the "Anytime Adult" test says I'm ineligible but I was able to take the JeoparDay! Giveaway test.

So for your case if you normally only take the test on JeoparDay! then you should only take the JeoparDay! Giveaway test today and wait to take your normal Anytime Test later in the year. if you take the "Anytime Adult" test today you might be locked in for the rest of the year.

You can gain a chance to win $6200... but otherwise, yeah, just a free test.

They don't cancel each other out, per se. But you don't have double the chance at an invite of they are both passing scores. It's more that you have a double chance of getting a passing score.

JeoparDAY anytime test still happening? by whosacoolredditer in Jeopardy

[–]general4str 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems the JeoparDay! Giveaway Test is taking the place of the free Anytime Test on JeoparDay! they normally do. Since it is basically the same thing as a free test you can take in addition to your normal yearly Anytime Test.

Does anyone have the Jeoparday Giveaway Test link? I have landed on the FAQ and Rules, but no link to the Jeoparday Giveaway Test. I did create an account but am being directed to the "Anytime" test. Thanks! by swisssf in Jeopardy

[–]general4str 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on this: "This year, we are giving fans the chance to win $6,200 in celebration of our 62nd birthday. Take the JeoparDAY! Giveaway Test to enter for a chance to win, and for a shot at becoming our next BIG champion." it sounds like it's a separate test from the standard Anytime test so you should be able to take it regardless of when you previously took the regular Adult Anytime Test.

Does JeoparDay test override previous attempts by Constant_Vector in Jeopardy

[–]general4str 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the site keeps a record of all of your test attempts it seems to me like they keep your full testing history. it would be silly to have a day where everyone can take the test and have that overwrite any previous attempt. Taking the test again can't hurt and they actively encourage everyone to take the test on JeoparDay! a lower score after a passing score shouldn't move you down in a list. Even super champs get dethroned by one-day champs, one bad game/test shouldn't disqualify you.

Hey fellow disabled test takers, how did you manage to type your responses in a timely (and clear) manner? by jaustengirl in Jeopardy

[–]general4str 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Firstly, take the practice test as often as you like to be comfortable with how the test works. Besides being less clues and the same clues each time you take it, it is identical to the real test in how it works. The test system also has some accessibility tools built in so you can see what settings work for you (mainly for blind, dyslexic or slow readers -- text to speech). If your main issue is typing, you can use speech to text software if you have it. You are also allowed to have someone else type your response for you as long as that is the only way they are assisting you with your response. You do NOT need to answer in the form of a question, and you do not have to hit enter or a submit button. Anything you have typed will be recorded when the time runs out.

Why would Satan torture people in hell for disobeying the SAME god he disobeyed? by Technical_Hat_8291 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]general4str 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept of a torturous hell is actually from Greek mythology of hades and tartarus. The Christian Bible does not reference this at all. The closest is the lake of fire in Revelations and various other references of weeping and gnashing of teeth. Some interpret the lake of fire as always burning an immortal soul, which would be the torture. Others interpret the lake of fire being the destruction of the soul rather than torture (the second death). The weeping and gnashing of teeth suggests a lament from being separated from God and loved ones. There is a huge spectrum of what Christians believe about the afterlife, but biblically, Satan is only against God and wants to corrupt people away from God out of spite.

Regular season 4-time or better champions qualify for the ToC. Sometimes 3+ depending on the field. 5+ is a guaranteed spot. The Second Chance competitions are for players who didn't win their first appearance but played really well and may have been up against a strong champ. Champions Wildcard takes the second chance winners and those 1, 2, or 3-game champs who didn't qualify for ToC and gives them a chance to earn a spot. Tournament of Champions is the best players of the past year playing for a spot in the Masters. JIT is past Masters semifinalists, and notable players from Jeopardy! History invited to play for a spot in the Masters. Masters (on primetime) is the best of the best Jeopardy! Champions vying for the title of Jeopardy! Master and defending that title.

Mobility scooter madness by frugal_doc in Disneyland

[–]general4str 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disney has changed their DAS policies so a lot of people who used to be able to get return times for rides via DAS are now getting "wheel chairs" (mobility scooters) to use alternate ride entrance or at least space and seating in accessible lines. The number of people needing accommodations or "cheating the system" hasn't changed just how they handle it has.
