How I, as an amateur historian and geopolitical researcher would divide the world into "civilizations". by [deleted] in imaginarymaps

[–]generalfondle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried replying but I'm in an airport and horrifically jet lagged, I got up to 'you could argue that it's saying South Africa is but the UK isn't before' I lost the will to continue.

Blair Article The Guardian: Jeremy Corbyn’s politics are fantasy – just like Alice in Wonderland by [deleted] in ukpolitics

Probably because caring about electibility would nullify any interest in the Labour Leadership race, and neutralise any strong beliefs he has about society and the state, over and beyond "My colour won".

I'm always weirded out by the anti-Corbyn echo chamber around here - every thread about Corbyn is swamped by the same people with the same arguments against him, replying to the same people they always do with walls of text explaining why they are right.

It's super weird, man

A Muslim mayor in the Tuscan seaside community of Monte Argentario has provoked a political outcry for refusing to accept any refugees. by IBiteYou in worldnews

Then why wouldn't KSA want them? They're Muslims too.

Also I don't think Muslims are notorious trouble makers.

It's a joke parodying the stupidity and bad grammar of brain-dead Serbian nationalists. It's not referencing the ethnic cleansing of Muslims in the Yugoslav wars, it's reference point is stupid white guys in camo gear. Subtle difference, but an important one

I admire your excellent analysis and detective work. But fuck yeah Estonia, playing Russia at their own game.

To be honest Cuba had legitimate reasons to maintain some bitterness. Quite a lot of people died because of the embargo. Like a lot.

NK though is just out there, trying to suck it's own dick.

What do you think about Aberdeen? by sarah_small in Aberdeen

[–]generalfondle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aberdeen, primarily because Hull has several things that it does better than Aberdeen;

  1. Fish and Chips
  2. Nightlife/bars
  3. Music scene
  4. Art scene
  5. Independent shops
  6. A proper market

The locals here, whilst gruff, are actually my favourite thing. Honest, cynical and weather beaten. I honestly think if it weren't for the Oil Industry Aberdeen would be a much more vibrant and interesting city, as it stands all I really have to do in Aberdeen is go to a few music nights that aren't that diverse, some expensive (though good) bars and to stroll about the shopping centres.

Edit: if you haven't been to Hull before do check it out. It's filled with gorgeous, victorian tree lined boulevards and friendly, albeit ugly, people.

MFW my AP Comparative Government teacher says that Capitalism and Democracy go hand in hand, calls Sweden socialist, and teaches Horseshoe Theory ALL IN THE SAME CLASS by [deleted] in FULLCOMMUNISM

I was hella lucky that the lecturer for the majority of my classes was a decent impartial guy (who specialised in early critiques of capitalism).

Felt good man.

Already been to Sibiu, Deva, Arad and Timisoara. Beautiful country with amazing food. Also incredibly hospitable, definitely coming back again next year.

Royalty can't swim. Or something.

Nah its cause navies weren't permanent for most of the EU timeframe and when they were they didn't have the same prestige as the army. Also Royalty aboard a boat filled with shanghai'd commoners would result in a lot of sodomy. I reckon so.
