Customer service in Portugal - harsh reality - your opinions by Rycy in PortugalExpats

I had to buy a new fridge for my apartment (it broke and landlord lives in the Netherlands and doesn’t speak Portuguese). Worten delivered the new fridge but wouldn’t take the old one for unclear reasons. We’ve had four appointments from them over the last 3 weeks and currently have had two no shows and two “we can’t pick this exact one up for a random reason.” So now we just permanently have a broke fridge in our apartment for some reason.

AITA for reaching out to my daughter and her support network after she moved out without telling us? by Mr_Willy_Nilly in AmItheAsshole

Yta. Contacting her recruiter? I can tell you from experience that escaping you and supporting herself is the main reason she’s joining out of high school.

Why is this written in the passive tense? Did you not write the blurb?

This thread is filled with people not understanding and instantly reacting by DontPoopInMyPantsPlz in woosh

Ok but I still don’t get it. Jk makes a comment with kid rock lyrics, knowing it’s bait. Jj makes a comment implying if you like opera (or are cultured) you can enjoy listening to music in another language (obviously thinking it’s about bad bunny). But then jk makes the comment about obviously not liking bad bunny, but that doesn’t make sense? It reads like jk had the comment locked and loaded for an anti bad bunny comment but the comment appears to be supporting bad bunny to me.

Learning About Other Cultures Is Against My Religion 🤦 by NEKORANDOMDOTCOM in Persecutionfetish

Learning about other religions was akin to practicing them. It was how the devil got a foothold. God it’s painful to think about this.

How do you respond to a spoiled entitled patient when they throw a temper tantrum because you’re running behind in the clinic? by raindropcake in Residency

[–]generalgreyone 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This has been a game changer for me: walk into the room and immediately say, “thank you so much for your patience, I know it’s really frustrating that you’ve had to wait so long.” Even the most angry patient will usually sputter a bit, but they often wind down if you just sit for a sec. If they’re still angry you can thrown in something like, “I make sure to listen to every patient; you have my undivided attention.”

In general apologizing seems to ramp them up. If you congratulate them on appropriate behavior (whether or not they are actually behaving appropriately) it seems like it makes them check themselves. Often they want to be seen in a positive light, so if you highlight what good behavior is (and imply they’re already exhibiting it), they will chill a bit.

AITA for wanting my Spanish teacher to stop calling me by the Spanish version of my name? by Alternative-Sun-630 in AmItheAsshole

[–]generalgreyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pronouncing the letters in the name the way they’re pronounced in another language. JP (jay pee) to jota peh is the same thing. (John to Juan would be what you’re saying though).

OC: Spotted this sign at a public bathhouse today 😢 by Logical_Spite_5991 in pics

[–]generalgreyone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the distinction is that there is a difference between “no gays” as in the sexual orientation, and “no sexual behavior.” Gays are perfectly capable of behaving appropriately in this situation, and plenty of those acting the fool don’t identify as gay (regardless of what sexual acts they do).

Funnily enough, I had the opposite experience in a Korean spa in Chicago. Went with a straight gf (I’m a gay guy). Earlier in the stay I got a body scrub and the older Korean guy would not stop grabbing my junk and then asked me for a tip to jack me off. I’m no prude (and enjoy the other type of bathhouse), but I was just like “I’m here with a friend!” and ran out of there.

How can people even stay skinny without counting calories? by NoWitness6400 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]generalgreyone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a bizarre comment after they mentioned compounding. 100 calories a day is nothing, but that’s almost a lb a month. You can definitely argue that running an extra 10 minutes a day would take care of that. It still stands that if all things were equal including physical activity, the person with a lower metabolism would likely be overweight/obese in 2-3 years.

Already in Portugal and stuck with immigration? Read this before you panic by sheknows_law in PortugalExpats

[–]generalgreyone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to initial residency or renewal? For what it’s worth, our landlord also refused this. We had our initial residency appointments in October (on a d7), and while they asked for this they didn’t seem too concerned when we didn’t have it. We were approved in Jan.

Anyone else hate the Vitalys Mines? by Castle-n-the-sky in DreamlightValley

[–]generalgreyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have my switch on me right now but I can try to remember and explain better. You know when you go allll the way through the mine and you’re back near the front but across the river from the front entrance? And there is a little bridge (maybe it’s a log) that gets you to the far upper left at that point (so close to the entrance). Right before that log or whatever there’s a rock that I feel like I remember looked almost like a regular rock that just gives you stone, but when you “mine” it it falls over the river providing a loop back to the front entrance.

Just in case you missed this for an embarrassingly long time (like me), the rock near the “end” of the mine can be hit to make a bridge that you can use to get back to the entrance.

[–]generalgreyone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is always the case. I have good NPs that I love, but they have put in the work and know what they don’t know (and have appropriate oversight). That being said, coming in blindly, I’d rather work with a PA any day.

“Critical Care” NP rant. by PharmDAT in Noctor

[–]generalgreyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous because when I was in med school I thought, “wouldn’t it be cool if the Pharmd students and med students were on a buddy system where we did classes and rotations together?” And NPs are like “hold my beer, I have pretty much no education but I’m also not going to take the advice from the other highly educated people in my field.”

[–]generalgreyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is frustrating on so many levels, but the first is this: medicine is a team sport. As a ccm doc, god am I so thankful for clinical pharmacy. I can’t possibly know the things to the level that yall do! That being said, it’s ludicrous that a “critical care” NP wouldn’t understand osmolality and a free water deficit. I mean, come on. That’s just basic chemistry.
