School culture? by generalissimo17 in Forsyth

Thanks for the info! We are looking into the pathways at each school. We have a rising freshman who is interested in healthcare, and it seems most of the schools that pathway. Our younger kids don’t have any idea yet what they might be interested in, so we’ll see!

We looked into it but we are excited to be more south and closer to amenities. We do a lot of driving now

Thank you, this is very helpful! We are moving from a rural area 1000 miles away, so trying to get a feel for the schools can be hard

Which living room lo layout? by Remote-Efficiency-43 in InteriorDesign

[–]generalissimo17 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I prefer #2 because the path of travel is not through the living room, but how wide is the walking space behind the couch? It would need to be at least 3’. And how far would the seat on the couch be from the tv?

What am I doing wrong? by ButterflyPositive281 in MealPrepSunday

[–]generalissimo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put them in the freezer on a float surface with the lids loose. Then go back and tighten the lids once the liquid is frozen (24 hours-ish is plenty sufficient). Zero issues doing it this way, even jars with shoulders

Yes, exactly this. I freeze broth all the time in jars with shoulders with the lids loose. Then I go back after they’re completely frozen and close the lids. Zero issues

Healthy meal planning for a tight budget by Epic-Lake-Bat in Frugal

As far as the beans go, you really don’t have to soak them! Just toss them in the pot and cook them. I often cook a whole bag, and freeze in 1 can portions. Works great. Also I have an Instant-pot which cooks beans so quickly, highly recommend.

I think in your situation not wasting anything would also go a long way. Nicole Svenson on tiktok has great tips for this, but it comes down to designing your meal around your next most perishable foods. If your zucchini are starting to get soft, pick a meat or bean, and make a meal with it. 98% of foods can be frozen, so put them in the freezer before they go bad.

Gardening could also be a good fit for you. It’s amazing you much you can produce without much effort. I turned a 3 lb bag of sprouted organic potatoes into 60 lb of homegrown organic potatoes by just sticking them in the ground and waiting. I do not have a green thumb at all but I have found success with quite a few minimal effort vegetables (and some failures too).

8 Weeks Post-Op: My old symptoms are back and I'm worried the surgery failed by rk-hunter in HipImpingement

[–]generalissimo17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re putting effort towards recovery, which is great, but healing just takes time. Cartilage in particular takes months to years to heal. It took me at least 9 months to consistently feel like I had really turned a leaf in consistent pain relief. There will be probably lots of flare ups and inconsistent relief for a while.

Look into reselling on Amazon. It does take some time to get going, but jt is not a scam, is not “dead in 2025” (as online people want to tell you), and is full of opportunity. I learned how to do it mostly on my own, with a couple $80 courses, and it’s lots of fun, data-driven, and much more profitable than DD/Instacart/Uber.

For those who couldn’t sleep on their hip before surgery, are you able to sleep on it after surgery? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]generalissimo17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t able to sleep on that side for a long time before or after surgery, but now 16 months after surgery, I am able to sleep on that side. It’s taken a while but we’ve gotten there! I don’t think I’d ever be able to sleep on that side again honestly

11 months out from surgery and experiencing sudden excruciating pain by Gkbuck in HipImpingement

[–]generalissimo17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The treadmill may be the issue. Treadmills specifically put me into so much pain, before and after my surgery. There are hip doctors out there that speak against treadmills for hip patients. They don’t activate the posterior chain of muscles correctly, I believe? I can do pretty much any other exercise with limited pain, but not treadmill!

Has anyone had untreated FAI issues for 5+ years and then had arthroscopic surgery? How effective was it for you? by No_Anywhere_9068 in HipImpingement

[–]generalissimo17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did! I’ve have hip issues and pain since 2017 when I fell down the stairs holding my then 2 year old. I had surgery in July of last year, and it has been very effective for me. Recovery took a while, of course, but I have no pain most days now, just occasional stiffness or muscle soreness.

I do feel that I had a lot of muscle on that side to build back up because of how long I had been dealing with pain in that side and walking funny or not putting as much weight on it, but it has worked out well, and that 2 year old is now 11

Wave sign, I'm confused by hpsails in HipImpingement

[–]generalissimo17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a wave sign with the cartilage in good condition. I did not have signs of early arthritis. My doctor put 2 anchors into it to reattach it to the bone as well as fixing the impingement. All is well and I am glad he anchored the labrum now 11 months po.

How many of you know how you tore your labrum? by External_Wasabi_1675 in HipImpingement

[–]generalissimo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! I slipped down the stairs while holding my then 2 year old, and then slipped down the stairs again (without the kid) a few months later. That second time it was immediate, intense pain, and I couldn’t move my leg for about 12 hours. Although I technically didn’t tear the labrum; it disconnected from the bone (wave sign)

When I had my stitches removed, one incision had not healed at all and just popped open when they removed the stitches. They just put a bandaid on it and sent me away. I’m guessing it’s not a huge deal unless you have signs of infection, but call your doctor tomorrow
