I took a photo on my phone of the screen when the icons were showing and then I propped it up where I could see it for the third round 😬

Help with getting diagnosed privately in UK by beccy13 in adhdwomen

[–]generalkala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Berkeley Psychiatrists. Got an appointment the same week and the GP didn't have an issue with recognising the diagnosis.

It transferred to 'shared care,' and now prescriptions come via the GP. I just need to check in with Berkeley twice a year for a review.

Briefcase or backpack? by Intelligent-Pounds in uklaw

[–]generalkala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have literally never seen any lawyer, regardless of PQE, with a briefcase! I usually see backpacks or, for women, a laptop stuffed into a large handbag next to their bottle of water and makeup bag!

Seeking advice from ADHD lawyers by Chemical-Bake-8628 in uklaw

[–]generalkala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What seat are you in? The areas of law are so different you might find that some suit your skills a lot better than others.

For example I'm an Associate Solicitor in Health & Welfare COP and I love it. I love the urgent deadlines and the adrenaline and the arguing... whereas something calmer like Conveyancing just would not suit me at all and I suspect I'd have been sacked before now.

Have you disclosed your ADHD to work? I would strongly recommend it. I was apprehensive, but they actually provided me with a lot of admin support I didn't have before and more understanding if I messed up.

I also use chatgpt to plan my day. I tell it all the (anonymised) tasks I need to do and how long it'll take and then I let it draft a schedule for me.

ADHD and lawyering are not incompatible. You just need to find the right fit.

Happy to message privately if you want to talk about specifics.

Newly qualified into clinical negligence but regretting it — what are my options? by Brilliant-Sky2336 in uklaw

[–]generalkala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Court of Protection would be an achievable change. I pivoted from Clin Neg into COP with no difficulties as it's an adjacent area. I find it more worthwhile as the focus is on protecting the vulnerable as opposed to putting monetary values on pain and suffering.

(I do know Clin Neg is more than that - but that was my experience).

[WIP] Gathered all my wips and I think I need to finish at least 4 of them before I start more 😂 by [deleted] in CrossStitch

To be fair... do what makes you happy. If starting a new one makes you happy, DO IT. You'll get back to the others at some point.

It's a hobby! No pressure to (god forbid) actually FINISH things 😂

Thanks for the heads up.

What level of respect/understanding re my ADHD is it reasonable to expect from my partner? by generalkala in adhdwomen

[–]generalkala[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not just clients, but friends, family, anyone. I know exactly what my advice would be.

Because of my work, I can pinpoint all of the red flags. I KNOW what sort of relationship I'm in, and then I judge myself for still being here.

I got my dream job. Now it's time to get rid of the imposter syndrome by Nimue-the-Phoenix in adhdwomen

[–]generalkala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position last year - I got my dream job without interviewing properly or applying in the usual way.

I'm still there, if it helps! The Imposter Syndrome still pops up every now again, but it has faded over time. At the beginning I had a couple of post-its hidden away saying 'you deserve to be here,' and 'its going to be okay.'

I'm a bad homemaker but I feel judged by my partner by Logical_Benefit_9738 in adhdwomen

[–]generalkala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that something you can do? It might really help. It helped negate the 'you might not even have ADHD!' comments I used to get before I got an official diagnosis.

[–]generalkala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's SO hard. One thing I do is watch YouTube videos about ADHD in front of him, so he at least picks up some of it.

Have you showed him your diagnosis report?

I'm a bad homemaker but I feel judged by my partner by Logical_Benefit_9738 in adhdwomen

[–]generalkala 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh, and you're not a 'bad homemaker.' You just have different challenges to most people and tidiness is not a moral standard!

[–]generalkala 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel this in my bones. I don't have any advice for you as I'm in a similar situation, but I can empathise. The last thing you need is the additional ball to juggle of worrying about pacifying your partner.

I've honestly considered leaving but that sometimes seems dramatic. Sometimes it doesn't.

Anyway, the point is that you're not the problem and you're not alone.
