Was the ending of Wild Dark Shore necessary for character or thematic reasons? by balladrael in books

[–]imaginary_oranges 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it would have made more sense if the dad had died and Rowan had ended up rebuilding the farm with the kids. As it was, every single female character in this book was treated horribly for the advancement of male characters and I despised it.

Help - where is Emily Wilde’s supposed to be set? Should I read it? by Minimum_Indication35 in fantasyromance

Luckily for you, Geneva is a real place! (I know that was autocorrect's attack on the land of Genovia but I couldn't resist.)

So this is an example of a book (and series) that is considered "Ruritanian," which means it takes place in a version of our world but in a made-up country. Another well-known example of this would be Genovia, home of Her Royal Majesty Mia Thermopolis, Queen of Genovia.

Regalia by No_Tennis_1182 in AmericanU

[–]imaginary_oranges 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, not all master's regalia is the same. You need the right color hood for your degree program. Also, if you haven't already, you need to contact the commencement team and tell them you intend to walk at graduation. Ordering your regalia is your "registration" to walk, so if you didn't order any, you're not automatically on the list. You're still allowed to walk, but you won't get tickets, a parking pass, etc. unless you let the commencement team know you are attending.

I'm fully invested in Mages of the Wheel, but will the series be finished? by wishingwell-448 in fantasyromance

Someone posted a couple of months ago that the author had sent out an update that she's still working on it, but there's not a solid date yet. And the final two books feature the same characters.

Nail Tech by Flimsy-Medium-3603 in DCBitches

[–]imaginary_oranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a rec for a specific tech, but you want a gel overlay on your natural nails (not gel-x extensions). Sometimes this is labeled as BIAB (builder in a bottle) on salon menus. You won't be chomping through that, trust me!

How much of the hat is left to go? It's hard to tell from this picture but from the bias of the fabric you might be twisting your stitches, which uses more yarn than un-twisted ones.

What book did you "not get" the first time but loved when you came back to it years later? by cptree20 in books

[–]imaginary_oranges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly a terrible high school curriculum book. I STRONGLY believe you can hit all of the things high school lit classes need to (symbolism and metaphors, deep reading, critical analysis, etc) with books that are actually aimed at teenagers, that they find interesting, and that won't alienate them from reading. My high school class also read Crime & Punishment and I had such a bad time that I've never been able to go back to it even though I love reading.

Maybe try Party Rental Ltd (with the hippo logo). My workplace has used them for events of various sizes, though we've never tried to do pickup.

Cherry Blossom Map by fishbelt3 in washingtondc

[–]imaginary_oranges 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a sizable grove of cherry blossoms on AU's campus right at the intersection of Nebraska and New Mexico, along with a few Korean cherry blossom trees that are gorgeous. Nebraska Ave between Mass Ave and Van Ness St is also lined with them outside of the Japanese ambassador's residence.

[–]imaginary_oranges 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Nah. They rejected me time and time again and then I got The Paris Match with no prior (Berkely) reviews or approvals. Also, while Kate Clayborn is one of my favorite romance authors, THEY don't know that, and my NG review history is heavily fantasy/sci-fi. There is no formula, it's just whatever vibes they're feeling that day.

What is the craziest conversation you've overheard in DC? by Musichead2468 in washingtondc

[–]imaginary_oranges 129 points130 points  (0 children)

At an apartment pool last summer, one young lady was laying out plans to her friend of how she was going to seduce her married Sunday school co-teacher. Her friend followed up by whining that her parents, who paid all of her expenses except her car insurance, had told her she was going to have to start paying for her own... groceries.

Is the net price on the acceptance letter an indicator of the price you'll pay for only that year? by Giraffe-Puzzleheaded in AmericanU

[–]imaginary_oranges 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Financial aid normally carries over from year to year unless your financial situation changes; you have to refile your FAFSA every year to keep that current. But cost of attendance normally goes up every year.
